Then again the phones that have that much RAM would be the price of a PC with that much RAM as well anyway
Old MacBook good MacBook
And some parts still user repairable
plus it was really easy to repair
I even replaced the keyboard because old one was sooo dirty
but replacing the keyboard is a nightmare, there are like 50+ little screws to unscrew
At least still repairable lmao
yes newer Apple products suck, they are so hard to repair
I bought my PC at a bad time and now I regret it like hell
1060s and Radeon cards go for absolutely dirt cheap now
Not to mention RAM and SSD prices have dipped significantly too
new iMac, for example, is glued. so you risk breaking a screen which costs like half the price
even if you take it apart and then back together and use a wrong adhesive the screen is going to fall off and you're going to waste the precious money
AMD better than Intel at everything but gaming, but still pretty close
AMD's gotten better
RX 580's a nice sweetspot
new Ryzens are quite good
but their GPUs...
well, I dunno
I like NVIDIA more for some reason
price and performance
Still
at nvidia's naming scheme tho
Like what even is the reasoning behind that?!
"just for lulz"
who would ever want to get that though
It's even worse than my old card the GT 730
lol really?
No joke
DD5 1030 on the other hand gets GTX 750 levels of performance
At drastically lower TDP
lets be honest here
1030 isn't for gaming
if it's not, then why even bother buying it? integrated GPUs are decent enough for office work or similiar to that
GTX 1050 is the bare minimum for gaming IMO (if we're talking about relatively recent NVIDIA GPUs)
You won't believe how many people here are still stuck at Core 2s
LMAO!
I was stuck with Athlon II until 2017
Yo nice
now I reused it as a server machine lol
lol
Not even socket 775 pentium 4
well I'm not running anything heavy
Absolutely archaic
I just did that because I lack a better alternative
For context the mobo it was attached to had AGP
btw I have that as a retro PC
Not even socket 775 pentium 4
````GoodUsernameNotFound - 31-03-2019 20:59 | #technology`
lol
mobo supports Windows 98
Nice
and I installed ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (AGP) into it lol
never had a motherboard burn
but a hard drive controller chip burned out somehow
just after a few weeks of use
my 775 mobo doesn't support hard drives larger than 120 GB lol
Either way the thing is hella old
I'm still using amd even if they have a bit worse gaming performance
because nvidia on linux is hell
it just literally tries to detect them for a while and then gives up
I have 2 old ass hard drives that I don't know what to do with
tested with a bunch of SATA HDDs - same shit
do they really not support large drives?
seems weird af
the only IDE HDD I have is from original Xbox (10 GB) lol
New setup :D
Damn nice.
kek
gimme
I have 2 old ass hard drives that I don't know what to do with
````GoodUsernameNotFound - 31-03-2019 21:02 | #technology`
👀
oh and btw, for some reason my XP install likes to bluescreen lol
like it runs for two minutes and then mobo just reboots
Huh.
in safe mode it works okay
I dunno wtf
a fresh install with drivers from the manufacterer
Windows 98 works great though
Managed to salvage a graphics card from '94
dunno what's up with that
that mobo has a few bad capacitors on it, maybe they are the case? dunno
oh damn ISA
The contacts are all rusted tho
Currently just on display since it's not like I can do anything with it
that crap is ancient
it's so ancient that I've never seen it
btw looking at old PCs you realize how better they are now
not in terms of just perfomance
dealing with hardware is easier now
Here it is in its dusty, rusty glory
Yes, those screw holes were there from the beginning
Quite a find, I gotta say.
lol

April fools joke dump
Well then
wew
lol those network drives
RIP Lewds
windows drive lettering is dumb
so glad that NTFS supports mounting drives to empty directories, unix-style
@subtle hawk im disappointed that queen nimi doesnt have a sandy face

````NUMBAH WAN! - 31-03-2019 23:44 | #technology`
I only have 4 TB :O
Here I am, still running shit with 1Tb
Same
Wait does RAID not show the full amount on the drives?
Im now concerned cuz my work has 4 4.something TB drives as its server
when u have a ext4 drive that you need to take out data from
just boot into the linux backup VM and yoink it
yup it's dying
Is it making the clicky noises
You assume Yamato still uses platters. How bold.
those are indeed mechanical drives
and they're on their last breath
time to take one apart
I woulda thought you ran all ssd. I admit my wrongness.
👀
Also arent SSDs bad if there is alot of rewrites?
Ye
But not really
It'll require you to download and install DOOM daily for 5 years to kill the cheapest ones
Ah i see
But how long do they last?
Cuz currently paper has them beat at 34 years of preservation
SSDs don't get bookworms.
And idk how files that i need to scan from 1985 still have legible writing on them so checkmate
You have bigger problems, then. Good luck finding a way to read a floppy, now.
No no like its physical paper files
Like a folder with around 100 pages
Its been there so long that the staples have rusted in an air conditioned environment
Holy shit. Sounds like some ancient legal docs, or something.
That is exactly it
Litigations support scanning. I did that gig for a bit, in my 20s. Some of those files, you were scared to touch with a hand, they looked so fragile.
My scanner sometimes gets angry and decides that a missed staple wont stop it, i want to know just how much force it takes to rip a paper off a staple with only shearing force
@severe falcon wtf kind of scanner do u have
it should have a glass surface that prevents the scanning sensor from directly interfacing
Its the kind that feeds the papers through, and it actively prevents multiple pages from going through with brake rollers and apparently it had a bad day so it kept the stapled stack in place and ripped the first page off and fed it through, then it pulled the entire stack and the multifeed sensor yelled at me
Its only done it once
Found a pic of it
Downloading 19.1 GB at 20 Mb/s
That'll surely take a while to download lmao
Well at work we have gigabit but i think each work comp is limited to 50 Mbps and the server gets to gorge itself on data or something
Bruh where do you live cuz i need that
Bangladesh
Yeah so you pay like $24 per year for that and ours costs 4x that per month
Welp
Asia is just cheap
Just like China
So you have to deal with it
Also from looking on my isp website, apparently we dodged a huge bullet cuz its $10 a month if you want one of their routers to have wifi at home
oof
Meanwhile our $40 router from walmart has been working fine for the past 3 years
I see so many people cherry-picking keys and have to remind myself they don't actually have mandatory classes to teach typing anymore. Kinda sad
Just a random thought, I blame having a remote class and camping out at Starbucks
Eh i like half cherry pick but then again the normal typing method isnt exactly designed for programming
isp configured routers
eww, custom firmware ftw
I love how april fools day is when literally everyone becomes clinically insane for a day and absolutely nothing bad happens as a result
'clinically insane'
except 'insane' isn't a mental condition... its a purely artistic term
</akshuully>
Time to test
Anyone here owns any Arduino boards? 👀
I have a Due lel
Welp
I have 2 arduinos
Unfortunately i have no idea of how my rpi and 2 arduinos all talking to each other could DO anything useful that doesnt just work in a single program
more pins
I'm thinking of a project that requires 91 digital inputs... prolly just gonna just wire up a multiplexer or something
actually no, 88 digital + 3 analogue
That sounds suspiciously like a piano
lel
Dont wanna put the wiki team down but they seem to hate technology doing things for them
Their cargo table that has literally all stats and important stuff that keeps their wiki running is now dropping the speed stats, but since the actual girls pages arent losing them they havent even tried fixing it since i told them a week ago
I only know this cuz ive been scraping their stat list page and my scraper broke one day cuz it was missing a value for some of them
But but what's so bad about help? Other than the fact that it may have them degrading themselves but that's something else
Wdym?
I've seen some people who start degrading themselves if they ask for help for a lot of things
12 days uptime and WinKey+V has stopped working lel
12 days uptime=Last restart 12 days ago lol
My PC on for 2 months now
Well they need help right now cuz either they dont care that their database is dropping values or no one knows how to fix it
Ye
Also is there any options of themes in the wiki like Wikipedia?
I dont think so
Sadness
I know one mod has some kind of dark theme thing that they use on the wiki but idk how to get it
Maybe an extension?
I just need the stats cuz i want to do statistics stuff with all that DATA but scraping their massive page of everything takes 33 seconds until my excel file is written, and 25 of that is just connecting to and downloading the html
oof
Boy thats fast cuz just connecting to and downloading cassins html is 10 seconds, and i have to do 318 of those
Is there any way to dual-boot on Surface Pro?
Probably but idk how
that sounds suspiciously like a piano
Maybe? >_>
How can I stop Windows from caching literally itself in the RAM?
that cached memory is going to get reused if the unoccupied memory is not enough
SO the only way to clear it is to restart my PC
Great
why would you want to clear it
let alone touch it
@subtle hawk
I can't compress files
Says 'Out of memory' every time
If Windows says that I have enough RAM to compress 9 gigs of photos with as minimal of RAM as possible then I should be able to do it
you understand that it's not just copying the files into memory
it has to do calculations
and if it's a normal program it should be able to do it with any amount of memory
Ye I know
it's just slower
so don't blame the OS
blame the shitty software
Any alternatives to 7zip then?
what compression setting are you using
7z
LZMA2
Ultra
Wants 14 GB RAM
almost
that's normal
I know
and as you can see
But it doesn't want
To do that
in use it's already over 6 GB
so it won't fit
pick something else
I have 24 GB of memory tho v
remember about the overhead?
...fak
the more cores u allocate
the bigger the overhead becomes
and if the photos are in a JPG/JPEG format you're not gonna achieve anything
as they are already compressed
I'm just gonna normal it then
Download WinRar and endure the infinite 40 day trial
I used cracked version of it
By that I mean I install the official version
Then add rarreg.key to the installation directory
like I can use the most powerful algo in 7zip and have 9 gigs of JPG pics
the most I'll be able to shave off is 400 MB
give or take
In Normal
in ultra
And I'm doing that
as I said
JPG is already compressed
I'm doing PNG v
PNG is similar
Just less compressed
nope
it's just lossless compression
Now I need to upload this 9 GB archive to a cloud drive to share
RIP my internet for 2 hours
Or more
PNG uses the DEFLATE algo for compression
which is very efficient
with a compression ratio of about 3:1
unlike JPG which is a lossy format with a ratio of aprox 15:1
What is causing this?
well read the error
Oh wait I need a 32 bit version
Oops
Yae it works nau
Now I need to figure out dual-booting
I wonder if there's a port of xz for windows
Ok so idk whats wrong, my rpi3 is barely able to access the internet, BUT IT CAN STILL ACCESS THE INTERNET meanwhile my phone is on the same university wifi and is able to do everything like nothings wrong. Wtf
wtf indeed
Just rebooted and still going abysmally slow, in fact the ping test directly to google completely failed but i opened google and saw the new art of the day so the internet is infact working
I just cancelled the ping, here are the results:
117 packets transmitted, 0 recieved, 100% packet loss, time 120636ms
pi prolly has a weaker radio
Anyone testing the Chromium based Edge browser?
Time to stop using Chrome
For the built-in Chrome
If I stop myself from whaling $560 and buy 2 6 TB drives then I'll be only able to whale $240
I dunno what to do
what make / model of 6tb?
mmh
well its not a seagate at least, but for that amount of storage I think I'd want something a bit more durable >_>
not seagate
you know seagate and HGST (enterprise subsidiary of WD) are the most reliable ones in the server space?
tochiba is just out there existing
not bad
but not great too
I've had 2 HGST laptop drives fail within the span of days
Like one of them got busted, so sent it to get replaced
Then that one died too
Guess I'm just unlucky
only drives that died often on me were samsung spinpoints
and those are notorious for dying fast
I had a 3 tb toshiba external drive that i broke out of its shell to have an internal one, and walmart messed up the prices so i got it for like $10 more than a 1 tb. Then i accidently dropped my comp while moving once and i thought everything was fine until it said my toshiba had 990 gb
oof
Ouch
But wait, HGST makes consumer stuff too?
nope
Since again, laptop HDD
OEMs and enterprise
Ah that makes sense
Bruh the comp that the drive was in weighed like 50 lbs
I actually bent the steel where the leg was when it dropped like a foot
the NAS had 30 kilos or so
Oof
ye
thanos fingers for a couple of weeks
I have destroyed 5 HDDs till now lol
I dropped more
I took apart more
they were all ded before I dropped them
3 of them are WD
1 Toshiba
And 1 Seagate
My destroyed ones were working lel
From the sounds of it, dropping HDDs is like dropping panties for yamato
Yes it is
I dont have dead drives, just a stack of platters
I mean
It's true
Grab the Volta 2.0 magnetic cable on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/volta or the main website https://voltacharger.com/ Get a Joan board and use offer code...
not looking for ssd at the moment
Ok then
Fine I guess
I prefer the 6GB one
But that's good enough
Yes that 1060 3 GB is good enough
Ye that's good enough
@flint bobcat unless you're gonna play rlly demanding games you don't even need a GPU
that integrated graphics is rlly powerful
I think it should handle it?
I mean I ran PUBG on that integrated
Nice
not the new one
running doesnt mean smooth gameplay
the old unoptimised one
it was definitely playable
About 50~60 FPS?
yea
about there
That's good enough
just by a intergrated card?
Intel GPUs are improving v
doe I had to drop everyone down to minimal
Still saving about ~$150-200 so ye
that's if ur gonna upgrade in the future
well then there u have it
Don't buy a GPU nao
if you see that the integrated graphics can't handle it then you can buy something with a bit more oomph
Just save up and buy a good one later
That saves money
ye
i don't know about that... since my integrated gpu on my laptop is shit
keyword
laptop
Mobile iGPU is shit
Mainly because
They are extremely low powered
1030
They have Vega 10/11 GPU cores lel
they're powerful little beasties
but nothing that spectacular
They make for perfect backups.
Intel HD 620 is 1 GHz
And Vega 10 is 1.3 GHz
Poor guy in an Ace Combat server had to RMA his 2080 Ti
oof
The DDR4 GT 1030 is just absolutely pathetic.
a 1030 on its own is pathetic tho
I guess im just looking at it from a gaming perspective, its value is pretty aweful compared to a 1050, and a GT210 or w/e would be a better i need a GPU something broke due to costs
18 days uptime and Windows is acting weird
only 28 days here
lmao
like my 8700k with a RX 460?
I dunno
Never was into AMD
Noice
i have the luxury of building myself
and cant really justify a gpu as i dont game at work but need some 3d acceleration
dual something 1070 or higher
lmao
I dont think my comp has seen 24 hr of uptime in like 4 months and i use it every day
oof
4x mine
and half the threads
Everyone has more cores than me
Hey what about me
@green umbra wtf do you even do lel
Also my comp is like 2 gens behind at this point, idk if it can even handle a new game
well that most recent pic is from my server @subtle hawk
Your own?
yes
Nice
personal one
Damn nice
I wanted to buy a personal server as well
But my lack of space said nein
mostly storage box and whatever else i need, hosting games or voice comms etc
Do you host gaming events in your area or wut
no just for my friends
LAN parties eh
its way overpowered for 99.99% of the time its onlnie
Well you bought that so live with it lel
costs like $15 a month in electricity to run but w/e
i thought about it but my installation would be so smol and the costs of the panels which wouldnt be much due to the small area i have facing sun + inverter doenst make snese
various electrical work would need to be done, unless i could just feed solar into my UPS
I have a 3kVa one
how do you get 4.99GHz
hard to do on air because they use a bad thermal interface material instead of solder
Ah yes the ole Intel TIM
Just delid the CPU and use custom water blocks that directly touches the die
rip warranty
Just toss some Conductonaut on there
I mean that plus direct die contact = 5 GHZ at 40 degrees at worst
yep
As proven by Linus concrete works wonders as a coolant
Provided you throw some sugar into the mix to prevent it from solidifying
Set it outside in winter and have antifreeze in it
I want a mini AC as the front fan for my comp cuz its a space heater
Hah.
Go linus and his madness
lmao
hmm
XP EST MORT, VIVE XP!
All of the parts from AliExpress finally arrived
But not the noctua lga2011 cooler mounts
Sooo, I mounted it with a bunch of zip ties
Nice
Mounting it Linus-style. Nice.
Wut
wut
Honestly though, Linus' clickbait game is getting a little bit much.
I know why he's doing it, but still.
Kinda irks me when it reached Techquickie too
This was in physics lab today, i still feel awful about it
oof
In 2019 confirmed
Anyone got a explaination as to why i can only open exactly 15 pdfs at once?
What program?
Adobe reader
Like i mass open them, so i select 15 pdf files and i can hit enter to open them all but if i select a 16th then it wont work
That's just adobe then
Reminds me of the Dreamweaver (not the Siren) bug that will crash the app if you open a file that has a size of an exact multiple of 8192 bytes
That's a documented bug
Proposed solution: add a few characters
I think my monitor could probably fit another 10 before they start going off screen and it would definitely speed things up
lel
Going to buy another monitor tomorrow v
Also 3 weeks now
Tech people i need help STAT my work comp just now started running incredibly slow AFTER closing google chrome and task manager is saying that "System Idle Process" is using ~95% cpu, i WANT to believe its not the cause for the slowdown so whats actually wrong?
That is so sad
At least I pay almost nothing for it
I pay $4.99 for mine
lel
that's just 2%
Yeah good
the router hard limits each wireless device to max of 200Mbits
same for non essential network devices
the rest get either 1 or 10Gbits
micromanaging a network is fun
and we are here sitting on sadness
SEA internet is painful lel
you don't have a miniature data center in ur basement
Yea gigabit net is not just for game hosting bois or people with miniature data centers
it's not gigabit
it's 10 Gbits
RIP
The max speed you get here is 100 Mbps
for consumers you get 1Gbits here
with the lowest one being 100Mbits
that's like what
2.50$ a month?
That's what happens when you live in a small poor country in Asia
lel
Bangladesh here
I get like 3.5Mbps max when downloading stuff like torrents
RIP
At least it's better than what it used to be
It was like 1.2
@severe falcon Does sound kinda like a memory leak
Well i didnt see memory usage high
You in US?
@subtle hawk Vietnam
@severe falcon "System Idle Process" shows the free CPU time, i. e. the percentage of unused CPU time
Before i know that "S.I.P" process, i was like irritate because i keep seeing the CPU number on that process goes above 90%
Until i realise that this process didn't eat up my CPU usage...
I was dumb back in the day .-.
Yeah i thought it wasnt actually eating cpu stuff but it was also like the only thing that wasnt reading 0 cpu usage
Naturally... When I need to send some indicator that a problem happened over a socket, this is what I decide on...
if(status != 0)
{
send(sockfd,"NUMBAHWAN",9,0);
}```
better than keksimus maximus
"Turn down the lights, i cant smell the music"
concern
Ugh, shortcut virus.
Never really gave it much attention till now.
Turns out it's an actual problem.
so my comp just randomly decided to disable its wifi adapter and the LAC associated with it in the middle of watching a vid
does anyone here have experience with refurbished laptops? I just want to know if it's an option worth looking into, and is it less of a gamble in comparison to buying used?
its about the same as buying used @silver vigil
but if its mfr refurb you might have warranty on it
what should I pay attention to to see if the refurbished laptop is worth snagging?
What is the laptop for?
My laptop keeps having kernel panics recently, is there a way to fix it? I'm not too good when it comes to laptops and such
Ey , my budget gaming monitor arrive
i dont even know what freesync is and my 2 monitors arent the same size or resolution
@severe falcon AMD adaptive V-sync
so it just changes the monitors refresh rate to the framerate of the game?
sounds like a good way to charge an extra $100 on a monitor when you could just check the V-sync box in the game options kek
Yeah but Freesync eliminates the stutter and input lag seen in normal Vsync
i have never seen stutter or input lag in v-sync, mainly cuz v-sync is supposed to NOT stutter
It does surprsingly enough
Man, you're really behind in this sorta thing.
Nvidia has something similar called G-Sync
And they just recently announced that FreeSync monitors will support G-Sync as well to the rejoicing of many
i mean just from reading what it does, i think ill just stay with my cheap monitor that already works perfectly fine
i mean if V-sync stutters, then theres a problem, cuz its literally made so it doesnt stutter or tear
also changing the monitor's refresh rate sounds like ALOT of extra tech in the monitor to do that
Surprisingly enough it's said that Freesync doesn't require special hardware
big doubt
really big doubt
cuz no monitor ive ever had could change its refresh rate
Nvidia settings allows you to overclock your refresh rate essentially
Success rate varies.
but wouldnt that be for Nvidia monitors only then?
I have an HP monitor
i mean if the monitor has the capability to have a potentailly higher refresh rate than normal, why wouldnt they advertise that and milk the money from calling it gaming and overclocked?
Again
The manufacturers have no intent of having their monitors go up their intended refresh rate
So you can really risk borking it
And how is refresh rate related here?
It's just fancy Vsync
cuz vsync syncs the frame output of the graphics card to the refresh rate of the monitor
120 fps on a 60hz monitor means you will still only see 60 fps but your monitor has twice the number of frames to choose to display
I mean it depends on the card's capability too
Even at lower framerate it still won't tear
the refresh rate of the monitor doesnt change though
if your monitor is 60 hz, then 60 frames are drawn to the screen regardless of fps, so what was all that about nvidia overclocking refresh rates?
The hell did you get that from
cuz thats how monitors work?
No like the overclocking refresh rates part
Yeah I said it myself but it's unrelated
It's only because you brought it up
"also changing the monitor's refresh rate sounds like ALOT of extra tech in the monitor to do that"
well yeah cuz id assume the machine doing the work would need a modification to do more work faster, rather than plugging a cord into it and somhow overclocking it with a graphics card
It's plug and play
The monitor isn't running a higher refresh rate with this, you're getting it wrong
ah ok, i figured somewhere along the line one of us got it wrong and it was me lol
People say that this kind of stuff does make the game noticeably smoother.
Funny enough it's one of the reasons people would go for AMD
yeah, but imma stick with nvidia cuz AMD burned their own bridge with me
i had two 2010 ATi cards running crossfire and had to DOWNGRADE to a 950 back before the 1000 series existed
then i tried switching back after i stopped playing the games that they had problems with and bricked my mobo
Holy FUCK that's some cheap Optane.
Less than 13 bucks. Sign me the fuck up
I mean yeah I have an AMD system
But PrimoCache seems to work though
I think im becoming a computer boomer, cuz i have no idea what optane is
Then again im running like 2 gens behind on literally everything on my comp
@severe falcon Optane is Intel's proprietary caching solution
Can make hard drives run like SSDs
Excuse me?
I think i need that but i run amd cpus
I at least need it for my OS hdd, my game ones dont need to go much faster yet
Though i need to go back to walmart and see if i can find a crazy deal on a big hdd again and buy a couple
Though
Again
PrimoCache seems to work wonders
Specialized tool that can turn your SSD into a cache to make your hard drive blazing fast
60 day trial, after that it's 30 bucks
Wait so you need an ssd for it to work?
Yeah
No it's 30 forever
Oh then thats not bad
You can also configure it to cache to RAM
But the requirement of having an ssd kinda defeats the purpose for my os drive, so i guess it would be for the larger drives
Yeah it's to accelerate bulk storage mostly
I need that once i can afford to do a new build
And then im gonna abuse walmart being stupid
That or amazon, whichever is more stupid
Though that said
If you're going AMD
Starting with B450 AMD also has its own "bulk storage acceleration" gizmo built in
Tiered storage
Is that a cpu or a mobo?
Mobo.
Ok, well as long as itll work with the ryzen big sis of my vishera then ill look into it
I have an AM3 fx-6300 and there is a ryzen with almost the exact same specs and with a good price so im looking at that one
Though i think the ryzen has hyperthreading so itll run even better
I think you're looking at the 2600?
Ah, that's the R5 1600X
Lemme look on newegg and see which one i found
You might as well consider holding off a few more months to see if third gen Ryzen is any good
From the leaks: very.
But we don't know anything quite yet. They'll announce more in Computex.
Computex's always a very exciting time
Well after looking at them i might aswell get the r5 2600x
Same price as 1600x on newegg
See but i dont care about best processor, i want bang for buck
That's exactly what third gen Ryzen's looking to be
8 core for not much more than current R5
Yeah but i dont really wanna go over $200 on a cpu
Well its a long way off from me being able to do a build so lets hold off
Alright then.
Yeah i have college loans to pay off once im done in december so itll be a bit before i can build a new system
Still though picking out parts for a hypothetical and just... dreaming about it is a favourite pastime of mine ever since I got into PCs.
32 inch 144hz 2560x1440 only 350 buck.
optane caching overrated
What about ON AMD?!
optane works the same way on AMD as it does on intel
intel can't exactly afford to cripple a product
or did I misunderstand something?
@subtle hawk Optane is locked to Intel, you can't use it on AMD.
At least with traditional means.
after doing some research, I admit you know more than I did when I made that comment
no wonder it hasn't caught on
so im on task manager, what does it mean when this number is changing like crazy?
that means your network connection state is changing
because wifi is shit and unreliable
ah, no wonder its saying i have more speed than the isp is giving
and that's the router link speed
not ur internet speed
also why the fuck are you on win 7
You realize 7's the new XP, as far as folk not wanting to leave it.
Cuz i like win 7
Also im not even sure if my companies browser interface for its old database would even work on edge, so i dont think they can go to 10
kickstarter preorder...
Edge is about to be yet another chromium derivative, soon enough. So, you should test said interface on that/chrome.
i think it works on chrome, but it defaults to ie so idk if ive ever tested
but considering how it looks, id say its late 90s stuff
i wouldnt be surprised if it was made before CSS existed considering the lack of any eye friendly layouts on it
anyone else hyped for the fieldbus subsystem inclusion in the linux kernel
or well enhancing of it
Sounds damn interesting, from what I read of it.
Who dares to buy the Galaxy Fold?
oh boy not me
I dont need to buy that phone when all I'm gonna do is browse the internet, make calls, and watch shows. ('-' there's no use in it. Just for show
it's a prototype like device
Same statement. There's not much use to it.
Always wondered how the Helio P/A22 performs...
Lol
I was trying to get out of IOS
and planned to buy a redmi
Or get better - same alternative
Redmi phones are ok
Its just that games that need more storage tends to eat all of the memory available
^ thats how androids are
Open app -> move to another app for another 30 seconds -> come back to first app and boom, it'd already closed itself
Can I see the developers options
This is why I can't switch between playing AL and chatting on Discord comfortably
And not now I'm on the laptop and it's past midnight. Parents confiscate phone for the night
Rip
You can change its processes
Up to 4 processes
I.e. your max background apps running
I mean sure it only has 2 gigs of RAM and takes up like over half of that all the time but still
Can I see your specs (phone model)
OneMind is trash
This thing can splitscreen too but it would soon crash one app after a few minutes
Also opening up the keyboard in AL would inevitably lead to it restarting
Mediatek
yep
A company trying to compete snapdragon
Eh I had worse
Which failed
An HTC with an MT6592 with 1 gig of RAM that is also a hand-me-down
Could barely play anything and its battery was pretty much kaput
Bonus: It was stuck at Android 4.4.2 with no way to update.
Now popular games like PUBG (not advertising) needs a minimum of 2GB
And that's not enough btw
Don't really play any other game except for AL and a select few because of the measly 16 gigs storage
Rebel Inc is fun
I could agree on you opinion that your current phone is bad at memory management
But not 100%
Cuz thats how much you paid for
I mean of course
But I expected it to be at least a bit better than this
Hell, because of a setting it could potentially block notifs
"Smart Background" they say
Also my phone has been stuck at Android 7 for nearly a year
Sure hope they'd hop straight to 9 for their next version of the OS shell
Samsung wont let me, cuz I've been upgraded too much
I mean I really cannot complain about the price
This phone is a whole lot cheaper than other phones with the same processor
86 bucks converted
Technically I didn't pay for it
But eh, still
Tight budget's gonna tight budget
Greenifying doesn't seem to help matters
And what's infuriating is that this phone's dumb memory management scheme breaks any app-lock apps
Idk if Huawei is confident and ready to release their brand new Mate X (their foldable phone)
Amd ik apple is sitting at the drawing board trying to make a new design (which is the same from previous generations)
anyone else hyped for the fieldbus subsystem inclusion in the linux kernel
@subtle hawk Fieldbus as in IEC 61158?
cuz if so that's p nice
Yeah people did tell me about the mediatek
Idk if there is another alternative which I should take
Except that I might not care stuff that much except doing some games and casual web browsing
For productivity wise, gaming phones aren't the best option
most budget phones are all u need rlly
arent most phone CPUs just a jumble of ARM cores anyway? in fact arent several CPUs just different names for the same exact jumble of ARM cores?
Gaming phones aren't really a thing tbh
Most still use the same socs as non-gaming phones
And perform fractionally better if at all.
This ain't PCs
if they make a new pi where the ethernet and USB bandwidth isnt shared that'd be great
but for 30 bucks or whatever i ain't complaining
also give it the smart power thing where it can tell the power source to give it more amps
a vm using windows 10
its just the name of the window, its a VM for running windows on mac
Aria he first learned what VM meant like 10 mins ago when i told him
so if you wanna tell him how to do it, the go ahead cuz i have no clue
:jerry:
but i think using bootcamp is the easiest solution
easiest, but not information rich
if ya really want to learn about vm, its good to go the hard way
arch linux was a tough one
So my computer is in a limbo state, i accidentky hit shutdown so i spammed esc, which i think does nothing, but then i told my computer to sleep and it went to sleep.
Is it gonna wake up and then instantly shutdown?
well it woke up and didnt shut down so either putting it to sleep stops the shutdown or spamming esc actually worked
@severe falcon If you pressed esc before the shutdown, the computer just forces to close all the apps (incl. background apps).
If you command it to sleep, it will just sleep
its just that you feel like to you just booted up your computer
well it seemed like it woke up just fine, wasnt running slow like when it starts
and after spamming esc, it did have quite a delay before going from desktop to shutdown screen, cuz usually i wouldnt have enough time to shutdown and then hit sleep
i think my OS HDD is finally showing its age with how slow the startup is
ram is oldest component aside from drives at 6 years, OS HDD is a 250 GB so idk how old
it was my uncle's old drive 6 years ago so who knows how old it could be
anybody knows the differences of the many fiber optic connectors?
like rc, rt, fc, etc.
what about them
@flint bobcat which ones do u need for the test
I'm guessing the 6 main ones
rc, rt, fc, mj-rj
there is more
but im wondering what;s the differences in them
like do they do something specific?
outside of connecting to different things
hm ok
@flint bobcat if you really care about the nitty gritty of it
the different connectors have different signal loss
and reliability
as well as ease of installation
I've heard of a CAT 7 LAN cable
From a friend of mine
And I don't believe it, since the expensive LAN cable is CAT 6
Which is useless, cuz it doesn't really matter (unless you compare CAT 5 and 5e)
@shy forum @unborn flicker heres an entire page based around the general algorithm and has a bunch of links to different map generators
http://www-cs-students.stanford.edu/~amitp/game-programming/polygon-map-generation/
looks like I've found my safe heaven
yes welcome
if to keep my GTX 1080 in my Desktop or try out the two RX470s sitting in my closet in SLI
joins for 5 mins and the god of this channel has already acknowleged your existence, impressive @stable sonnet
alright
my closet is basically a graveyard for unused tech at this point
and o damn
is it thermal throttling on low intensity tasks or something?
Yah probably
what type of computer is it?
Even on like low settings dota
PC or MAC?
Laptop dell inspiron
how old is it?
do you have speed fan by chance?
Idk
But I'd like to try to remediate it
I've heard that the 1060 max q throttles
But not on the 1050ti
Its a unit
I would be concerned if its thermal throttling while you're doing simple tasks like browsing the web or something
but if its doing it while under load I wouldn't be too surprised
Is 80-ish while just browsing the web normal?
Its like low-med wows
My laptop (which is actually a hand-me-down work laptop from dad) seems to be hitting the shitter
It flat out disconnects from the internet within minutes of booting
No wifi networks show up
sounds like a driver issue
And ethernet doesn't work either
It still shows that it's connected but it won't connect
Troubleshooting can't detect the issue
Driver or the hardware for it
probably drivers
So the drivers just suddenly go kaput?
if it's a old pc running win7 prob
