In any case, for defense, technically, the best fleet for the rank rush is a stall team. With attacker advantage, attacker can always win eventually. You want to guarantee that everyone facing you during the rush takes a long time to give you the best window for the rush, as otherwise some people might get lucky and slip you by.
Haven't really investigated into what a stall team looks like, but I know the CN meta stall team runs Hiryuu, of all ships, just to be that extra bit of annoying.

also, while vanguard has light armour usually which is weaker to HE, they're moving a lot too if they have light armour since that's usually DD/CLs so it's likely they'll dodge BB shots

if aegis worked on vanguard it would mainly be soaking the opponent vanguard's damage and airstrikes (if u dont use eld or vs akaga)

If we already started talking about luck and Enty/Foxes viable alternatives, you could use Ranger retro with double helldivers (and reroll match if she doesn't proc), that's pretty much t0 cv with RNGesus on yr side. Or hornet with her "aviation barrage" (basically a CV BB)
Same with bad RNG Eld dies off with 1st barrage/aviation strike in 50% cases
Also, when ppl fighting ppl 10 lvls below at those high lvls, that obviously had much less time playing the game (like half at those lvls) and getting their gears etc. is a bit stupid
