Imo that’s the problem with games like that. Too much uninteresting filler garbage on the map is overwhelming. But if the map was filled with actual interesting things it wont feel overwhelming. Witcher 3 and Skyrim comes to mind. I never got overwhelmed with skyrim. It felt like a continuing adventure and expanding the lore of the land. They were also little notes in houses that had a story to tell.

In GK you get rewards for leveling the battle pass of sorts, in DaL the rewards are few and far in-between to the point where GK looks appealing
