That is, the danger level mechanic only kicks after you reach 100% for the map and starts increasing the next time you clear said map. Each danger level acts like an artificial level that is appended to your ship's own level. For an example, if your ship's level is 30 and the danger level is 6, then your ship's actual level is 36. Note that danger levels do not increase your ship's stats. Your ship's new level, for that map alone, is critical in certain calculations that involve damage dealt and received.
To explain in detail, if your ship and the enemy's level is equal, then you will deal and take 0% less damage. If your ship is 1 level higher, that is 2% more damage dealt and -2% damage received. The opposite is true if your ship is of a lower level. This continues on till a maximum of a 25 levels difference in where one side will deal 50% more damage and receive 50% less damage. Danger level offsets situations in where your ship is under-leveled or the advantage is not a maximum difference of 25 levels. For an example, with a danger level of 6 and your ship's level is 10 and you are facing a level 25 enemy, the level difference would only be 9 or 18% less damage dealt and 18% more damage received. If danger level was 0, the level difference would had been 15 and thus your ship will deal 30% less damage and take 30% more damage.
