While I do see the fault in the lack of specificity, I do not think that considering the wiki as documentation for the game is good practice. Everything on the wiki is user-generated content, trusting it blindly without seeking further confirmation from other sources can lead to situations like these. It's not perfect and it's prone to errors. There shouldn't be a disclaimer on every page stating this. Sorry for your loss of cubes. I myself wasted core data by buying West Virginia and Wasp from the core shop because I didn't confirm my assumptions.

I can compress them with zopfli. The handful of existing images currently use 32-bit color, but I can try 8-bit color to see if it makes any difference.

Recently it has come to the administration's attention that a lot of users simply love to hammer the wiki with automated requests to the tune of at least 1000 per minute (with one egregious case of 27k in 5 minutes). This drastically degrades the experience for our much-respected regular users; as such, offenders will be dealt with. Specifically, 77.37.224.197 (Rostelecom, Moscow, Russia), 83.34.235.39 (Telefonica de Espana SAU, Spain): should you keep this up, your entire ISP network range will be permanently banned.
Note: automated requests are allowed as long as they conform to the robots.txt policy.

@wheat solstice One of the ways is just to assume based on style, that works well for recurring artist. For example you can always spot a ship made by Saru. Richeliu was obvious from start since she was first shown in Iris event that it's by same artist as Jean Bart
But that does not always work, especially when a new artist comes
Another way is that the artist himself/herself post the art, for example today during JP maintenance the artist of Algerie tweeted the art saying he made it and JP AL tweeter retweeted it, basically confirming it was him
