Water cooler thing doesn't come on pc is just stuck in limbo, I've forced reset countless times unplugged all usbs turn power of at the plug removed the plug. Made sure all bits inside are still connected securely. Nothing works. Been having issues with restarts for months but this is now the straw that broke the camels back. Do I need to send it back yet again or has someone got any ideas on how to get this working. Thank you.

there's a red light illuminated on your motherboard
can you take a zoomed in photo to see which one it is
That lights been on there since day one
:tada: Congrats @opaque magnet, you levelled up to 5! :tada:
it looks like a debug LED that shouldn't be on during normal usage
Fair enough, it's been on the computer since I bought it and returned it and got it back again lol
Usually goes off after the computer boots up but obviously it's not booting
yeah that means there's an issue - these light up when the system tests different parts of your computer during POST (Power On Self Test)
if there's an issue with a component, the POST will end where it is and keep the LED illuminated corresponding to the component that has an issue
Well it's going to be a send back job then right?
maybe not
If that is the case I'm going to return it permanently and get a refund.
sorry i'm just finding info on your motherboard atm
Ye that's the one
All the rgb fans have reset themselves it looked like this yesterday.
you mentioned issues with restarts, what were these restarts like? were they the normal windows restart sequence or were they like someone unplugged the PC?
You know when you update things and it says requires restart
Click restart then it just acts like it's about to but then just sits there i thought one time maybe it was a big up date left it for like 5 hours still didn't restart
Then you have to turn it off manually and turn it back on.
oh ok - that's likely unrelated to the problem right now then
that sounds like a general windows issue unfortunately
Don't think it would be bothering me so much if it was old but I haven't even had it for a year and it's just issue after issue.
To quote the film anchorman.... 60% of the time it works everytime.
the best way to start troubleshooting with a black screen is a CMOS reset:
- Turn the PC off
- Switch off the Power Supply on the PC at the back, and then unplug it
- Hold down the PCs power button for 5 seconds (to drain remaining power)
- Get a screwdriver (or anything metallic)
- Locate the CLR_CMOS pins on your motherobard (an image of your motherboard with red boxes shows which pins)
- Place a screwdriver on the CLR_CMOS pins (as highlighted in the first image)
- There's a second image which shows how you hold the screwdriver against the two pins - it's not your motherboard in that second image though.
- Leave it there for about 20-30 seconds, and then remove the screwdriver
- Plug the system back in, switch it on at the back, and press the power button and see if it comes on
I can't see anywhere it says clr cmos
it's in the bottom right corner of your motherboard
:tada: Congrats @opaque magnet, you levelled up to 6! :tada:
yeah it's here
alright well the debug LED that's illuminated looks like DRAM - which means there's a problem with your memory
the method for debugging this is testing different combinations, so to begin with:
- Turn off the PC, switch it off at the back, unplug it, hold the power button for 5 seconds to drain the remaining power
- To remove a stick of RAM, there will be a guide below for reseating RAM - you can use the information from there to understand the mechanism for inserting/removing RAM sticks
- Remove the second stick of RAM and see if that lets you power on the PC and get a display output
I held the power off and turned it back on when it got stuck that time
@nocturne hearth for president.
It wouldn't connect to the monitor so just held the power down on pc
Turned it back on and poof red light went off connected to the monitor
we're not quite out of the woods yet though - since we did a CMOS reset your RAM isn't going to be running at proper speeds
Okie dokie
all you need to do to fix this is enable XMP in BIOS, which is as simple as just switching an option
Now to computer guys that probably sounds easy but how does one get to bios😂
BIOS can be accessed before windows loads up - it's that screen for gigabyte that shows up
you can get into BIOS by constantly pressing the DEL key when you switch your PC on and it should throw you into BIOS
Oh no so I have to turn it off and pray it turns back on😂
it's just to make sure the issue has actually resolved - we wouldn't want it randomly coming back
I spammed delete I've got that now
and to make sure that you're getting the most out of your PC - XMP is essentially overclocking your memory, but it's pretty standard now, and you get the speeds advertised for your RAM (e.g. if your RAM was 6000MHz it would get that speed with XMP enabled, with XMP disabled it'd get 4800MHz speeds)
yeah that's just indicating the CMOS has been reset
click ok and a new screen should appear
yeah as suspected, your RAM's running at default speeds (i.e. 4800MHz rather than actual speed)
to enable XMP, select disabled and some options should appear
(i.e. the arrow next to 'Disabled')
Xmp1
if there's only one other profile you can select that
That's done
once that's selected, press F10 and confirm you want to save settings
it may take a couple of minutes to boot up when it restarts - give it some time
you can do, but you can also see it [RAM speed] in windows
Oh ok
Problem is I don't think the pc is going to restart itself
It tries to but then it does nothing
is it stuck in BIOS?
No it's come out of bios disconnected from my monitor and is just stuck in limbo
My pc knows how to turn off and on but restarts it hasn't got a clue
it will have restarted then
you should be able to see orange and red LEDs on your motherboard (usually during 'memory training' which takes a few minutes)
The red light of doom is back
alright - leave it another minute or so, if it doesn't do anything you can try forcefully restarting
Same thing happens when I try restarting after an update
Wierd turned it off and that's still on😂
yeah that's usually normal for a lot of PCs
So is the gigabit motherboard crap or the lian li cooling thing
:tada: Congrats @opaque magnet, you levelled up to 7! :tada:
your PC will give power to some USB devices and some internal devices even when it's off - provided they're low power (e.g. LEDs)
your actual pump shouldn't be on - so as long as you can't hear that it's not really a problem
it's normal for a lot of motherboards/PSUs
Ok it's on now
has it managed to get to windows?
Ye its all up
in task manager if you go to the performance tab and look at memory it should show you a speed under the graph
4.20ghz
i_am_cheat was warned for Inappropriate language
😭
no worries
ah yes there we go - it's running at 6000MHz, as it should be
Tha k you for helping me it started off a very poor father's day
😂
One day I will work out why my pc is allergic to restarts!
no worries - lmk if you need help in future, hopefully not though!
Hopefully I never have to put a screw driver in there ever again😅
it's mostly a windows issue, if you need to restart to do windows updates just ignore the notification and restart with updates (there should be an option for that if you go to restart)
that'll only appear if there are updates to do though
hopefully not - luckily this was one of the more simple fixes
Fingers crossed! Not all heros wear capes! Thanks again miles. Massive appreciation to you genuinely.
np - i'm glad we were able to fix the issue
If your screen on the pump stays on when you shut down your pc it’s erp mode in bios @opaque magnet but if you’re not bothered about it then don’t worry too much
