#gpu issues (I believe)

Hi guys,

Got pc setup and running yesterday downloaded all necessary drivers and things and I had a couple issues as follows:

  1. it has happened once and only once and I can’t seem to replicate it however when booting up the screen came up as a full grey screen with 7 blue lines, I readjusted monitor cable and restarted which seems to have fixed the issue and hasn’t happened again

  2. another issue is that when running a game at 4k there is a slight rattling sound, now I believe this could be a fan or loose connection but I believe it may be coming from the graphics card (not entirely sure)

  3. I have set fans to PWM and when gaming sometimes there is this pulsation where the fans have a high rpm then slow down and repeats so it sounds like it’s speeding up and going back down

  4. upon first downloading the amd driver and adrenaline for graphics card I kept getting driver timeouts every now and then as well as when playing games and switching to the 4k resolution it would off centre the mouse by quite a bit, this has been solved by repairing and reinstalling drives as well as unchecking the amd super resolution setting (whatever that does)

The reason I believe it could be an issue relating to the graphics card is that all issues relate to and could derive from the graphic card I’m not too clued up on hardware so if anyone has any ideas as to how to fix or any advice is much appreciated

Contacted customer service however being a Sunday I don’t expect a reply until Monday

Temps seem to be fine I used bell let loose as my benchmark as I’m used to playing that and would be able to see a difference as well as not being too graphically intensive, I can run 4k with highest settings fine at around 150 fps average and gpu temps sit at around 60C while hotspot is around 80-90C

When I get home I will probably do a benchmark with HWMONITOR to further produce some stats but was just asking advice

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800 3XD
GPU: Radeon 7900 XTX

It’s possible that some of the noises could relate to a fan whine in the gpu, I maybe wrong however. And the grey screen with lines could also have been driver related. If it hasn’t happened since then it’s safe to assume it’s a one off, but keep an eye on it and see what customer support says. They may want to try get you do some tests and send over the results first

Fingers crossed it’s nothing major 👍

Yeah hoping so, I’ll probably open up a game and the front panel to get a better idea as to what exactly is making the noise because it might not be the gpu I just kinda assumed it was with all the other issues I was having with it

#

Could be a fan or loose connection somewhere which would be better than the gpu as I can just fixed that easily ahaha

#

Doesn’t help having lots of fans inside the pc, makes finding out which one it is, a pain 😂

halcyon rover
#

Yeah there’s 9 ahah

#

Might just have to set each individual fan at 0 rpm and then see if it stops ahaha

jaunty linden
#

Not a bad idea tbh. Could also possibly be the PSU fan. They’re known to have coil whine also

halcyon rover
#

It is more of a rattle than a whistle/whining sound tho tbf

cprgbglitch :tada: Congrats @halcyon rover, you levelled up to 6! :tada: cprgbglitch

As well, it isn’t constant it’s only when playing a game and when I switched it to 1440p it stopped or at least quietened it done a bit and it’s more noticeable at 4k when it’s working harder so will have to take that into account

#

Hopefully all the driver issues have fixed tho as I have reinstalled them about 3 times now

#

Think I might just have to try and figure out what EXACTLY is the route of the rattling sound then go from there tbh

#

Just might take a while ahah

#

Have you tried a DDU?

#

It's possible a windows driver pre installed before you installed the latest ones, and in a rare occurrence just messing stuff up

halcyon rover
#

Ah no I didn’t

#

Could try that tonight I suppose

#

Still doesn’t explain strange rattling sound tho

odd breach
#

Would need a video of it

halcyon rover
#

See if I can capture it when I get home

halcyon rover
#

It did in fact happen again when booting up just now

#

As shown, I unplugged and re plugged both monitors back in and this got me onto windows, once on windows it began flashing intermittently and amd driver tumour message came up

odd breach
#

Huh

#

If you go into device manager > device adapters > 7900XTX is it running normal?

halcyon rover
#

I’m currently reinstalling drivers

#

Downloaded amd cleanup repair and ran in safe mode and now currently back in installing drivers

halcyon rover
#

weird, ive unistalled them and un hooked my second monitor and now it runs like a dream

#

maybe it was my second monitor

#

havent plugged it back in yet to find out but I dare try now that I have fixed it ahaha

#

I have incredibly high fps now, no more rattling comes from the PC and fixed the lines and flashing

#

plugged monitor back in to see what changes

odd breach
#

Thats so weird?

halcyon rover
#

very odd

#

I will see if playing with second monitr has changed anything

#

nope, maybe I did just have wonky drivers installed which is strange cos I had installed them a few times

odd breach
#

Yeah that could do it

halcyon rover
#

I could be speaking too soon tho as I would need to restart and shut down a few times to try and replicate the grey screen

#

as that only happened on startup weirdly

#

But as for now im happily sitting at 200fps 4k ultra quality settings with hell let loose with GPU only being at 60C

#

so im good for now will update if anything happens I guess

odd breach
#

👍 Tbh, the issues you are giving seem driver related

halcyon rover
#

I dont mind trying to fix things, its when its so hit and miss its really difficult to tell whats causing and trying to replicate the issue

#

yeah I thought as much but its weird that on the 4th reinstall thats waht fixed it

#

not the 2nd or the 3rd ahah

#

but hey im not complaining

odd breach
#

Did you DDU?

halcyon rover
#

No but I did do AMD cleanup and repair this time round

odd breach
#

DDUing will do a better job

halcyon rover
#

Other reinstalls I didnt

halcyon rover

Display Driver Uninstaller

:one: Download the driver for your GPU from the manufacturer's website using the links below, but don't install them yet.
:two: Download the latest version of DDU by clicking the button below, clicking on the top post which is called "Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) VXX.X.X.X Released", and clicking the link to *** Download DDU "Installer" *** in that post.
:three: Open the program you just downloaded, and install DDU.
:four: Disconnect from the Internet by unplugging your Ethernet cable or turning off Wi-Fi in the bottom-right corner. This will prevent Windows Update from automatically re-downloading the GPU drivers after rebooting, as we are going to install the driver ourselves.
:five: Open the Start Menu, click the power icon then hold Shift on your keyboard and click Restart. Once your PC has restarted, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart, and press 4 to load into safe mode.
:six: Launch DDU, using the icon on your desktop.
:seven: On the right side, select the type as GPU, and the brand as the manufacturer of your GPU. Then, click 'Clean and Restart'.
:eight: Once you have loaded back into Windows, install the GPU drivers you downloaded earlier. Once they have installed and you have rebooted your PC if required, you can reconnect your Internet connection, and your GPU drivers have been fully reinstalled.

#

but tahnsk for all the help and support anyways much appreciated

#

I like to think I know waht im doing most of the time but I really dont

#

I have some knowledge but not a whole load

odd breach
#

No worries, hopefully its all smooth sailing now

halcyon rover
#

am hoping so mate

odd breach
#

Any more issues do a DDU, any further issues contact support

halcyon rover
#

now to download the witcher 3 and play through that hehe

#

yeah contacted support and waiting to see what they say monday

odd breach
#

Seems good

halcyon rover
#

even though I have fixed it its nice to know what they would recommend

odd breach
#

Yeah

#

Most of the time it goes DDU > Windows reinstall > RMA (I think anyways)

halcyon rover
#

right so managed to recreate the issue with the lines and grey screen, it only happens when booting up pc if both monitors are connected

#

if its just my main monitor connected we are fine

#

and if I connect the second monitor after its booted up its fine

#

its only when the second monitor is plugged in on boot up

odd breach
#

Do a DDU?

halcyon rover
#

I will wait and see what support says first but will more than likely do one at some point

#

atm the moment im not too fussed about the second monitor I just wanna play a game ahaha

odd breach
#

Sounds good

halcyon rover
#

also uninstalled AC because fk having that piece of shite software

#

probably causes more issues than fixes any
