#PC Crashing/freezing.

So when I'm in a game, my PC will either freeze, the audio will also freeze and I'll need to hold the power button to reset -

Or the screen will turn black, I will lose signal to my monitors but I will still hear everything happening in the game.

I have tried running DDU and reinstalling all my drivers, but as soon as I run furmark it froze again. I'm currently running it again just in case, and it has been running for 10 minutes without a crash. I've also tried updating my chipset drivers.

I tried running Cinebench, specifically the multi-core CPU stress test and always 5 minutes in the screen goes black and I need to hold the power button to restart.

GPU: Nvidia RTX 4080
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7800x3d
MB: MSI Tomahawk B650

My temps seem okay - I've never seen my CPU go above 75

Something is clearly going on here that shouldn't, so it crashes on a GPU test and CPU separately?

hybrid wolf
#

Yes, I've had it crash on both

#

though last time I ran furmark, it was perfectly fine and didn't crash

I'm going to recommend something odd, but it might be the RAM

#

I think you should consider doing a memtest

MemTest86 Memory Testing

:one: Download MemTest86 using the link below.
:two: Open the zip file you downloaded and run ImageUSB
:three: Click 'Extract', choose a File Location then click 'Extract' again.
:four: Run ImageUSB from the File Explorer windows which just opened and select your USB stick from the list.
:five: Click the Write button, ensuring that any files on your USB stick that you would like to keep are backed up.
:six: Shut down the PC you are going to be testing, insert the USB stick and press the following key while your PC is turning on, depending on your motherboard:
rog ASUS/ROG: F8
aorus Aorus/Gigabyte: F12
msi asrock cp MSI/ASRock/Cyberpower: F11
Then select your USB Drive from the list and press Enter.
:seven: Wait for the 10 second timer to finish and the test will begin.
:exclamation: If MemTest86 picks up an error, or the test has finished (It will stop automatically), let us know.

After making a MemTest86 USB, you will notice that your USB will have much less capacity. To fix this, reopen the ImageUSB tool, select Reformat USB drive under Step 2, then click Write again.

Considering the fault happens on CPU and GPU and I don't think it is power related, could be though.

hybrid wolf
#

With the memtest - I'm only seeing my portable harddrive on there

#

Or do I need a usb to test the ram?

maiden cargo
#

USB unfortunately

hybrid wolf
#

No worries, lemme go grab one

cprgbglitch :tada: Congrats @hybrid wolf, you levelled up to 4! :tada: cprgbglitch

#

Now just to let you know, it might be wise to do this tomorrow considering it takes absolutely AGES to do

#

I did one and it was like 3-4 hours?

hybrid wolf
#

oh, im already 10% done

maiden cargo
#

That's pass 1

#

Are you booted into memtest?

hybrid wolf
#

this thing

#

idk if its right

maiden cargo
#

Ah

#

After that's done - I don't think you should start that process today until tomorrow as it could take some time

#

Well I say tomorrow but you know what I mean 😂

hybrid wolf
#

I getcha lmao

#

I have a bad sleep schedule anyway, I'll just let it run

maiden cargo
#

Brill

#

If the issues with the ram are present it should pick it up fairly quickly

#

Even if there is 1 error that could cause what you are describing

hybrid wolf
#

Okay the imagining is finished

maiden cargo
#

Actually let's check one thing real quick

maiden cargo
#

So right-click windows icon open up event viewer

#

Take a screenshot because I can't remember specifics facepalm

hybrid wolf
maiden cargo
#

Custom views, then go to administrative logs

hybrid wolf
maiden cargo
#

Press CTRL F and search for "NVL"

#

Just checking for an Nvidia driver error

hybrid wolf
maiden cargo
#

Can you remember if you had black screens around then?

#

12/1/24 8:44PM

hybrid wolf
#

I had issues with my computer freezing whilst streaming and playing a game around then

#

I sent a ticket to cyberpower about it at around
Fri, 12 Jan, 20:53

maiden cargo
#

Ah right

hybrid wolf
#

The black screens started today

maiden cargo
#

Sounds like my 4070 that died this December

#

There's going to be some hardware fault here, just gotta pinpoint it.

#

The RAM can cause black screens and freezes and just cause GPU dying symptoms

hybrid wolf
#

So I should memtest, then?

maiden cargo
#

Yes

#

Instructions all here so you should be in there soon

hybrid wolf
#

I just let this run then, ye?

maiden cargo
#

Yeah

hybrid wolf
#

At least if it's just the ram it's not the end of the world, if it's the mb it'll be a nightmare to take everything out and replace lmao

maiden cargo
#

I don't know if it's the motherboard tbh

#

Any errors yet?

hybrid wolf
#

None yet

#

Pass 3/4

So I am quite confused, I think you need to get in touch with support to solve the issue.

# maiden cargo No - if it did it just wouldn't work.

Hi there - So turns out I did a dumb and the black screen during stress tests were due to my monitors going idle. Sat through 10 minutes of furmark and cinebench and everything was all good.

Though as soon as I opened FFXIV, my entire system froze, audio kept playing but was very stutter-ey and crackle-ey, that's what initially happened that started this, any ideas?

maiden cargo
#

The freeze stuff I'm not too sure if you did do a DDU - maybe try doing some windows repair?

Since the RAM is good I'm saying the CPU and RAM is probably not the culprit

hybrid wolf
#

This probably not normal, right? i just copy pasted what the thing you posted said
