i wanna get a i5-13600K but my motherboard is a PRO B660M-E DDR4, would it still work even if it’s a generation behind? and if it would would the performance not be as good as it would if the motherboard was 13th gen?

Yeah, it’ll work. It may need a bios update but not 100% sure. And it won’t effect the performance

Imo it would need a bios update, but it would ultimately be supported iirc

Through the bios hah

You should see the q flash thing, if you go to the MSI motherboard website you can download the bios and there's a video showing you what to do
