Anyone have any idea on how to speed up this stuff? I’ve deleted and tried msi Center and also installed cfosspeed but it still gets 514kb/s and peak of 1.2mb/s on steam. On epic games launcher a 10gb update would take maybe half an hour to an hour or so. Not sure why steam takes a WHOLE DAY for 20gb.

What is the speeds from your ISP?

jolly meadow
#

70mb/s up and 20 down

#

Usually though when downloading on epic I get 5-7mb/s but on steam is less then 2

#

I changed my DNS to Google’s and it’s up to 2.5mb/s now, not sure what’s up

Is this on WIFI or ethernet?

#

have you tried a different ethernet cable?

#

and is it direct to router?

#

or going to one of those extender wifi things? or a powerline adapter?

jolly meadow
#

It’s 2 Wi-Fi adopters, 1 next to router (with Ethernet cable) and 1 upstairs next to the pc (with Ethernet cable)

slim scarab
#

Powerline adapter?

modest hinge
#

Yeah are these powerline adapters or actual WiFi extender things?

#

If they’re powerline adapters, what specification did you buy? AC600 etc

jolly meadow
#

Yes those ones

jolly meadow
modest hinge
#

Is it working great everywhere but steam?

#

have you checked the "Download" section in Steam Settings?

jolly meadow
#

I believe so, this is what it’s at right now but I’ll test it with epic in 2 mins

jolly meadow
modest hinge
#

do you have any of these options ticked/unticked

jolly meadow
#

Nope the exact same as you

modest hinge
#

That is just weird...

jolly meadow
#

It peaked at 3.5mbps at the start not the 5-7 maybe bc of family but it’s not the 500kbps

modest hinge
#

Have you cleared the download cache?

jolly meadow
modest hinge
#

The only thing I can think about is it's being throttled by something

jolly meadow
#

I uninstalled msi centre and the LAN MANAGER and also installed cfosspeed but tbh I really have no clue what I’m doing

modest hinge
#

Surely it couldn't be software, if it was then the entire thing would be affected

jolly meadow
#

I’m gonna try turned off the adopters and then turning them back on again, I haven’t tried that but at the same time I’ve never had this problem until downloading with steam

modest hinge
#

Say, is the epic games installing to a seperate drive

#

compared to steam?

jolly meadow
#

Nope, I only have 1 nvme2

#

And it has 280-230gb free (1TB)

modest hinge
#

Have you tried to limit your download speed in steam, to something just faster than your maximum speed

#

Say you're getting 5-7 on epic, try setting it to 7 on steam

#

or even higher

jolly meadow
modest hinge
#

try something like this

jolly meadow
#

How do I get to that page?

modest hinge
#

thats back in the Steam Settings, Download section

jolly meadow
#

Booting up my pc again

#

Oh there we go wooo

#

That’s a lot better thank you so much!

#

Way better then the 600kbps, 10x better thank you 😌

modest hinge
#

Jesus it worked!

#

In that case, try even boosting that number up a bit

#

What is the speed you get from your ISP?

jolly meadow
#

8.6mpbs

jolly meadow
modest hinge
#

say, pause the download and see what result this gives out

#

and see if we can maximise the download speed for you

jolly meadow
modest hinge
#

is that on your PC?

jolly meadow
#

yep

modest hinge
#

alright go back to the download settings

#

and pop this number in

#

60000

jolly meadow
#

should i start it?

modest hinge
#

and then resume your download and see

#

yea

jolly meadow
#

I’m still very happy with that speed

modest hinge
#

Yeah that's still night and day compared to what you were getting

#

Just keep it set at that speed, and if it goes higher, all the better

jolly meadow
#

Exactly, I appreciate all the help you gave me

#

Yep, thank you!!!

modest hinge
#

No worries, glad we could solve it 😄

#

and fun fact, that peak speed was faster than your advertised speeds

#

so it's actually running pretty good in comparison to your router speeds now

jolly meadow
modest hinge
#

Yeah if you enable this setting in your Download section, you'll be able to see it in the Mbps instead of the MB/s

#

doesn't change anything, just the layout of the numbers
