#Removing mainboard shroud

I sent this to Zendesk but posting on here to see if anyone can help. I got my system from CyberPowerPC and need to add my extra m2 ssd. I need too remove the shroud (circled blue) on the ROG Crossfire Hero mainboard to access the sockets. However there's a screw of the shroud that is hidden behind the bracket (circled red). I don't see this bracket on the mainboard's manual but it seems to be soldered fixed onto the board so can't be unscrewed. What can I do now to remove the shroud and install the extra SSDs?

could you take a picture from more of a side angle if you can, im having trouble figuring out what's attached to what

craggy mountain

Here it is

What are the top 2 screwed into since it looks like its screwed into some sata ports?

craggy mountain
#

I think they are SATA ports

modest iris

From what I can see that's a GPU support bracket to stop the gpu from sagging, have you tried removing this screw? it might be a bit hard to do since iirc they use electric screwdrivers when putting the build together

craggy mountain
#

yea i tried

#

i used electric screw driver and everything

#

it didn't move at all

#

lol

you might be able to unscrew that black standoff (maybe use pliers) underneath it since that should do pretty much the same thing

craggy mountain
#

hmm ok i will amazon some pliers, ty ThinkRotate

it be easier to help u if u tell us your motherboard name or google the manuel or look through it yourself(should have came with your pc)

modest iris
#

i figured out that it was an asus rog crosshair X670E hero board

craggy mountain
#

i did include at the top

#

yea it's ROG Crossfire Hero X670E

modest iris
#

did you end up managing to get it off?

craggy mountain
#

no, i haven't got a pair of pliers here so just ordered one on Amazon

#

i will update tmr 🙂

If you have a screwdriver with a bigger head sometimes these can latch if the screw has been chewed, but yes we use these as they’re safer anti-sag brackets than the ones that connect to the io slats at the back of the case.

craggy mountain
#

Yeah I think i tried too hard and the screw is stripped beyond repair

#

Just ordered some screw extractor bits BNSshy

Rubber band a screwdriver will workbigbrain

craggy mountain

Gonna try all things kekw

craggy mountain
#

I didn't see any connection and it seemed so stuck I legitly thought it for soldered hard on

#

Just how did you guys even screw this in laughExplode

little jacinth
#

with electronic screw driver

craggy mountain
#

Hmm, I used my electric screwdriver but it just stripped the screw instead. Probably not enough torque

little jacinth
#

wait why do you need to take the anti sag bracket off?

craggy mountain
#

Look at the top post

#

I need to take the mainboard shroud off to install my extra m2 ssd

#

But there's a screw underneath the anti sag bracket

little jacinth
#

Ah I didn't think the screws were laid out like that

#

could you not just undo the top screw of the anti sag then twist the bar down to access the screw?

craggy mountain
#

Well I didn't want to strip another screw cause my screwdriver is not working

cprgbglitch :tada: Congrats @craggy mountain, you levelled up to 2! :tada: cprgbglitch

little jacinth
#

just use a hand screw driver never known those screws to lock in my 5 years of building

craggy mountain
#

Yea I tried a hand screw driver before the electric

#

Didn't move at all

little jacinth
#

hmmm strange

craggy mountain
#

What are these screws actually screwed into ?

#

The top ones into the sata ports?

#

And lower one going through the mounting hole into the case somehow ?

little jacinth
#

Nope they are just screwed into the case standoffs

#

so instead of a screw holding your mobo it's just another standoff acting like a screw

craggy mountain
#

Ic

craggy mountain
#

Ok @little jacinth , @modest iris so I tried everything from rubber band , screw extractor, .... Nothing could get that particular screw out

little jacinth
#

if that happened to me the only next option I know of is drilling the screw out

craggy mountain
#

I just got the screws above out instead. Now can I just twist this bar rightwards

#

To expose the shroud

little jacinth
#

but let me see if the tech boys know anything

craggy mountain
#

Doesn't seem to move either... Now I wonder if there are more screws behind the gpu

#

Lol

little jacinth
#

Wait is it a custom loop?

#

yeah there probably will be I'll let the tech boys take over

craggy mountain
#

Yea

#

I think the bracket for the GPU is blocking the 3rd screw

#

It looks undone, here, have you removed t he other 2?

craggy mountain
#

Just the bottom one is hard stuck in there with no way to get out

#

I tried all kind of stuff like rubber band and ezout and nothing could move it

little jacinth
#

did the bar not twist down?

jaunty skiff
#

You should be able to twist it around if it’s free?

craggy mountain
#

I tried twist it rightwards but didn't seem to move. Not sure if the bottom screw just stuck so hard ThinkRotate
