#new PC RTX 4090 not detected on restart

Hi all, just received my PC a couple days ago, quick question, when I restart the machine, the dedicated GPU (4090) isn’t detected. If I shutdown and start cold it detects it fine, it’s literally just reboots where it’s not finding it. I tested with the integrated GPU and it has signal so the machine is restarting ok. I’ve tried re-seating the RAM as originally I was getting 3 beeps on restarts (again only on restarts). I also flashed the BIOS to an earlier version which seemed to fix this beeping but the problem with the 4090 still persists. I’m reluctant to actually try and re-seat the GPU as I’ve not done it before and don’t want to risk damaging it.

Has anyone had anything similar?

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
Nvidia RTX 4090
MSI Pro X670-P Wifi

Luckily reseating a GPU isn’t too tough in case you want to give it a go

Turn off PC, take power out and the cables from the GPU.

  1. unscrew the GPU bracket that holds the GPU onto the back of the case
  2. push the clip down on the motherboard to the right of the PCIE slot where the GPU is plugged in
  3. give a wiggle and slowly pull, it should come out

If no luck with that I would definitely email support

Hey @formal drift, just wanted to say thanks a lot for those instructions, I just re-seated the GPU now and it looks like it’s restarting now with no issues! So thank you so much for that, one last thing, on point number 2 with the clip to the right of the PCIE slot, I can’t quite close it, is that normal? don’t want to put too much downwards pressure on the GPU against the PCIE slot, I gave a fairly forceful push so don’t think it will go down much more. Should I try and rework it so that I can close that clip fully?

You can use a small bit of force without worrying Too much.

As long as it’s not as flat as it was when you removed the GPU, you should be alright haha

Oh right great, haha yeah the clip is on a slight angle compared to the other PCIE slots so guessing it’s probably ok. Thanks for your help 👍

Don’t think I’ve seen you show off the 4090 in #674209924540137480 …
