So a checkpoint system isnt hard. There are different ways to approach it but the easiest one would be with teams. So, checkpoints can be set to teams, which would make members of them spawn on it. Set those at the places of the spawn points. Make that on touch they would switch the players team to the one which is relevant to the check point and thats basically it! There are better ways to do it but this one is pretty easy to understand and nice for a beginner!
