#best way to learn scritping?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
do scripting practically, like write code instead of seeing one ig? if u want to learn then ai, brawldev, documentations etc are good tools to use to learn luau
make stuff
how do u guys memorize all the code tho
just like how you memorize math
you just keep doing it
we dont remember/know how to do every single thing, thats why we have documentation
xd
Watch tutorials and recreate. And try to make little Projects. Helps a lot with motivation and is way better than just recreating random things. I Suggest Brawldev.
how long does it usally take to get decent at scripting?
how do u memorize english words?
how long does it take to get decent at spanish?
idk
took me like a week

learning programming languages is the same as learning any other language, or really just any skill in general. the more you do it the better you get at it.
Depends is this your first Programming Language?
yes
ye i get it i tried watching brawl dev awhile ago when i tried learning scripting
id learn it then wake up in the monring and id have forgotten evreything

so you gave up instead? that's why you still dont know how to code
the only way to fail is to give up
bruh i gave up cuz my brain was steaming and i realized this was the tutorial for "scripting" and there was strill "local scripting" witch looked so much harder
** You are now Level 1! **
excuses
i already told you
by making stuff
look up a guide, read the docs, watch some tutorials, draw your information from many sources, but above all else; if you aren't making something, following along with the tutorial, playing with what's shown in the docs, or pulling apart something that already exists and trying to put it back together, what are you really doing
you don't remember anything because you didn't take that crucial step of actually making something
by docs do u mean thishttps://create.roblox.com/docs/scripting?
you turned your brain off, watched a video about making something, and then you went 'yep im an expert on this now' ... watching a video will never make anyone an expert, you have to put it into practice.
it's like, watching football on tv isn't going to make you a great football player bro, you have to actually do it for yourself, not just watch other people do it.
yes read every page in the documentation like all the other skilled scripters have, myself included. and when you're done, read it again because roblox added and changed a few things.
dont expect to finish in a day.
i dont wanna look dumb but ion see anything
you don't see all the words on the page?
might want to get your eyes checked
i alr clicked on the blue words they didint take me to any ppl explaining scripting in any sort of docs
coz bro i got bad news for you, if you don't like reading then you're going to hate scripting because it is 90% reading
i never said i didint like reading
well this just comes back to the practice thing. you clearly don't know your way around the documentation and how to navigate it, what better time to practice than right now?
click on buttons, read everything
do it again tomorrow, and the day after that. there's lots of examples in the docs, open up roblox studio and try them out
there is a lot in the documentation, and it is essential for scripters. if you're trying to write code and don't have documentation open about the stuff you're working with, you're doing it wrong.
and yes i am in fact serious when i say read every page.
occasionally i'll read random pages just to see what else is in here that i might not otherwise discover myself, helping people is great for that too
but again
above all
make stuff for yourself in roblox studio, even if it is bad.
no one is expecting you to get it perfect and flawless on your first attempt.
except for you
and am i to assume being able to script animatons/vfx will eventually be learned by me from these docs
i wont
if you keep at it, you can learn anything. the only way to fail is to give up.
alr bet im bout to go make a block turn blue some advanced sh
yep, that's exactly where you need to start
spawn a block, change its color, make it move etc
attach it to a button
etc etc, and just keep going
don't jump into trying to remake forsaken when you don't even know how to change the color of a part
btw when i watch brawl devs video should i watch for example 1 video evrey 3 days but practice that certian video for thoes 3 days before moving on to the next
however long you want
the 10,000 hour rule states that it takes 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to master any skill. this is no exception.
so if you want to put in 2 hours every week, you're going to be waiting a while before you get any good. up to you
alr bet
** You are now Level 2! **
but since ur a scripter
ima ask u smth
luau can script anti cheats right
like for roblox
you are no where near any competent level to discuss this
ik but thats kinda my main end goal
future pro coming soon
cheaters and anticheats is a thing you will come across if you get anywhere with scripting, i suggest you do not worry about it for right now
start with working, and then maybe worry about security after you got it working once
it works to
alr bet ty so much for the help bro
make sure you understand one thing before moving onto another
you will probably migrate to tutorials, make sure you understand those before going to the next
and brawldev is excellent for understanding the very basics of programming in luau
u gotta try a mini scripting challenge using the thing u learned everytime u learned smth, thats how i learned scripting
** You are now Level 11! **
ty u guys so much
same to you all 3 of you ahve been the biggest help
watch brawldev on youtube the playlist. it has all basic concepts. Then after, make something with that knowledge
