ive been scripting in roblox studio for around a year but on and off different projects and i keep hearing people say roblox scripting is easy so i wanted to make this rpg game and i made a system for m1s but its just 2 hits and then i tried to make a enemy and i couldnt so i looked up a tut and then i tried to make him respawn when killed but i couldnt do that and i feel like after a year i should be able to do this and i just wondering if theres like anything im missing cause this really discoruaged me i know the basics of scripting but stuff like indexing, datastoring, module scripts, and stuff like that that takes advanced stuff i just cant figure it out andd when i try to learn that stuff with tutorials the scripting is like witchcraft because i dont understand any of it idk im just really stumped and lost ive watched ampro ive watched devblox ive watched brawldev ive watched bytevblox but i just cant do it im stuck in a really awkward limbo between beginner and advanced scripting knowledge i just need some serious advice or tutoring
#i just need serious scripting advice

yes ive watched that but it didnt really help none of the info stuck event though i did a activity for each video
idk he goes through advanced stuff, try to work with AI and ask it to explain certain stuff to you (don't copy paste but let it explain code to you)
try to use the stuff WHILE watching the tutorials and not afterwards
also you could use the roblox documentation for explainations on certain thing
s
me in a nutshell
look
if you want to learn all this
you have to embrace the powers of the dark magic
just kidding
you just gotta start small and try to understand each part
i mean for example
use a module script to access the inventory of a player
** You are now Level 2! **
@idle hornet Here's an exercise for this: Have a script and a module script. The script will have to require the module script and use the information inside the module script to answer like an if statement or something idk. Just do this and you'll already start learning stuff.
Then you can learn more stuff like using .self
and other cool stuff from module scripts
the way i learned was making small things that i wanted to make and finding resources that helped me learn. Sometimes i would take apart free models and try to replicate the code to help understand
yeah but that's a hell of a headache for most ppl and they don't wanna rlly do that yk
unless it's simple
and not 1000 lines of code for a freakin' zombie
like why the fuck does a zombie need over 1000 lines of code just for soem dumb ahh movement
im talking about something like a digit code door
oh ok
i'm talking about modules
which is where stuff gets tough
a digit code door is like beginner stuff
oh well how im learning right now is that im researching as i go
yeah but if you wanna apply it to your game or whatever you need to do projects with it
nd try to memorize it
'cause learning roblox studio is school all over
ive been using tagservice and oh my god the modularity of my code is through the roof
jjust like with any scripting program
yeah im like learning while i make my project
oh fuck no
if i get what u mean
its so easy
you tag an item and you can get it using tag service
whats a tag
** You are now Level 12! **
SHUUUT UPPP
so ive been using it for door systems and power systems so whenever i need to change a small set of code it changes for every single light and door
hmm that's cool
a tag is a kind of like a marker you put on an object that you can gather later
i dont mean to intrude by ryker wdym modules can you explain a little more?
do you know what a module script is
kinda
module scripts
like ik you store functions and stuff in there and use it in every other script kinda like a dump for stuff you use alot
it's not useed for that...
i mean kind of
oh...
but it's used for something else
lowkey that’s what i use it for rn
ive made a rarity system with a atutorial and it used a module script
it's used for organising code and making your code look more scary than math with letters
what are you having trouble on still?
just advanced stuff past the basics
good now recreate it with a twist or something
and then you'll be able to remember how to do it
im ngl i havent even touched data stores yet and ive been scripting on and off for like 3 years
brah.
yeah data stores seem simple
but they can get rlly complex
but only in specific games
if your game is a frickin' simulator you're chilling
yeah i just havent rlly had a need to make a complex one so i just use the same script in every game i have
yeah that's normal
later on you'll have to use it for weapons, int values, inventories, module scripts and more
t--t-t-t-t-they can? 😨
i just need it for coins n shit but i have no idea how i would do stuff with like saving bought items n shit
i mean it all starts with you learning how to save weapons
after saving them coins yk
ive done it before but the way i did it was so terrible that it might have been better to learn how to make data stores
i already know how to save coins cause that was legit in the tutorial but like
stuff in shots i have no idea
RYKER IS NOT THE RIGHT PERSON TO GIVE LEARNING ADVICE
so ryker what should i do first with module scripts?
do you know hwo to do require() and stuff
to access values and stuff
yeah
alr did you use it before?
yes but like only twice
alr that's good enough
yo ryker isnt familiar with how to use functions dont listen to this guy 😭
?
oh shit
i mean i know OOP and some other methods of modules
ur not the guy
wtdym
bro
u have the same color as this other guy
oh who?
i want you to try using functions in modules to make something idk
oh alr
yea
i'm js bored
and got nothing to do
so i'm gon' be hyper active on this scripting help channel for no resaon
reason*
sorry bro got nothing on datastores
guess nobody got shit on it 😭
you spoke too soon buddy
If you can’t progress to more advanced scripting, then you should probably look at scripting in a different sense.
I’ve been scripting for a year and a half, and I wouldn’t say that I’m a crazy good scripter, but I would know how to implement the things that you’ve talked about.
One thing that really helped me was the Dev Forum. They provide good documentations on almost everything there, and there are also forums with professionals that u can suggest a problem to.
