How do I begin when trying to learn scripting?

Every time I look for a tutorial it either just gives the code without teaching anything or it just doesn't explain anything and I get lost

honestly how I learned was having a basic goal and messing around and trying to find different ways to achieve it, make sure you understand every step in the process and dont just copy paste code

also learning to read documentation helps a lot
