#How did YOU learn Scripting
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
The documentation on studio is so vast these days it's impossible to miss, start off with robloxs tutorial videos before you even bother experimenting with anything, once you've watched those just keep experimenting or watch YouTube content, a lot of the documentation will leave examples for your benefit etc etc. It takes years of patience and dedication to truly get a grasp so don't expect to understand a lot of it instantly. Good luck.
I just watched a vid on making a zombie enemie and kept going from there
that and I wanted to make a game inspired by nine sols'
I personally started with Brawl Dev's tutorial series, but most of the learning comes from making your own projects. The most important thing is starting extremely small, for example I started by making a calculator and simple games like tic-tac-toe (against an rng bot), and minesweeper. Then from there you can start expanding slowly once you learn stuff.
I watched some videos of Code coach (its been 4 years and i still started learning scripting yes i know im dumb 😊)
or actually just think of something you want to make, break it up and find tutorial for those pieces
yes
then you can start learning by yourself and make a game out of your knowledge
😊
oh, btw im not like some skilled as hek guy, litterally started yesterday lol
** You are now Level 3! **
or, hypothetically, learn the language and concepts before actually doing games
well that's good in concept but, for me at least, that's really boring and made me quit sooooo many times
you gotta want it
because i guarantee you're not going to come up with a lot of integrated stuff on your own
this field of expertise involves a lot of reading and a lot of comprehension
i been on roblox since 2012 bruh, you're either motivated and willing to learn or you aren't
there's no bypass or easy method of learning
its a lot of trial and error
you can jus rescript junk on toolbox its what i started off doing
but just starting you can't just say "learn the language
thats what im saying
oh yeah'
you need to surround yourself with it
I totally agree with trhat
drown in it
if you float, you have the mindset for it
if you struggle too much, then your reaction to that kind of frustration makes or breaks you
like i said
lot of patience
my laptop almost crashed yummy
it's a 2 to 8 hour read for those who don't know lua
no it isnt
** You are now Level 7! **
its years of practicality and understanding the concepts you want to utilise it for
tell me this is not
to make any use
i'm talking about the language, not cs
ur jus acting like thats readable in 8 hours and printed to memory
which is unrealistic
and stupid to assume
its 8 hours a day for how many months for it to stick
1 thing at a time
i guess i'm just different
i'm not?
cos if u were u wouldnt be yapping ego when im tryna help someone
eeehhhh, I'd say use it like a dictionary and reference it as you go, but there's sooo many ways to learn
ur jus makin the situation incomprehensible for anyone who hasnt spent time in a script tab
that isnt how u learn
not at all
and i can guarantee you've done next to nothing practical with that knowledge
you pick up a book (the pil)
other than reinforce already known concepts
huh??
bro is acting like you can't learn the language from a book
some of us cant some of us can
jail timer?
with all ur "knowledge"
😨
what the fuck is a jail timer
like in jailbreak
something basic af
i mean it is
oh
so u use task.wait(500)
and the timer doesnt work
now
we have a 50 player server
constant traffic
thread in full swing
what is the difference between os.time and task.wait tho?
luau is asynchronous
all 16 cores roblox uses annihilating the client
literally overexaggerating
so while u task.wait(600), the timer will display every second of that interval?
exactly
this is what knowing 0 but having a mouth does, try to avoid these guys bruh
this is how u get put off scripting
buddy? you know very well that a loop is required with that busy wait in order to update that shit
it is
if you think it's not, then you don't know how a computer works
task.wait returns deltatime
TimeLeft = os.time() + duration
is it as accurate as os.time? probably not, but that doesn't matter
ur thinking about havin a 1 player baseplate
have you ever actually ran a working game
or do u jus yap on discord all day pretending to know things
concurrency buddy
it's actually insane how much bs you're throwing out rn
guys
if u good
then fix my problem already
im suffering not knowing what the frick is stopping template from cloning
bro thinks roblox is my old tetris gameboy
pls 🥹
ignor me or comt?
comt
ignore comt
tbh I just left
he has 0 clue what hes sayin bruh
h
i have 7 years of experience and a job IN IT
you CANNOT be serious
well some people function differently, like I can't remember where I put my phone like two seconds after using it
this dude talkin about lua docs
which luau's syntax takes after
i give him an easy on the spot system anyone with "7 years" of experience would have done
and he fails to mention os library
which lua docs mention more than anything
os library is completely unnecessary
if you're doing it in lua, then you would probably like to use os.execute("sleep etc.")
u got 7 years in yap school
then fix my damn problem
never even went to school for it
which one
in any case, the lua manual will give you all you need to know about the language
luau does have type generics and runs on lua 5.1, so there are a few different conventions, namely bit32 as one of many
roblox also has plenty more, but you should get acquainted with the LANGUAGE first (the libraries come next)
Yeah js started with Brawl devs playlist
Yall Need to chill out🥀🙏
If you need any small project ideas lmk 🙏
