need i check if a tool is equipped on the server side to prevent exploits?

so i was tryna clean up my code cuz it was working very inconsistently (sometimes my gun would deal damage, sometimes it wouldnt) and i was wondering if i should remove the lines that set the tool as equipped or not in the server script because that seemed to be the issue, and i was just wondering this.
