#character falling off of moving parts [SOLVED]

this is the kind of effect i want ^
meanwhile this is what happens
this is my current "stay on moving part" code
character falling off of moving parts
i've searched for a few days now
haven't found a solution
are you... copying dead rails?
not really copying
just taking a few features
you could say
i'm making my own assets though
long shot: custom physics properties with friction / elasticity to 0?
this makes me slide around the part
didn't work
it acts like ice
Oops, I should have said Friction to 1, elasticity to 0
gotcha
now nothing affects me
like the train moving doesn't affect me
Argh. Well I did say it was a longshot lol
i should probably tell how i move it
yeah it's alright
part.CFrame=cframe-part.CFrame.RightVector*(s/30)
this is how i'm moving the train
hmm... moving the CFrame like that probably won't work.
Since it's not interacting with the physics, the train appears over the player, and Roblox pushes the player away so it's not in the train anymore, repeat ad nauseum
LinearVelocity maybe?
well, doesn't the train need to be un-anchored for linearvelocity to work?
I'd imagine so
sadly won't work for me
AlignPosition then?
thanks for the suggestion, i'll try it later
You can make the limits axis based, so it can have huge force vertically but lower forces laterally, so it'll never like float up and down.
alright
By moving the world instead of the train
It will
It always will
thats also a convenient way to evade floating point error after traveling for a long distance
ok but if teh world moves how will i get off the train
like
the train can be moving and the player off it
Either
A) When the player exits the train freeze the world and begin moving the train (would require custom replication for other players)
B) When the player exits the train move them along with the terrain.
well my game doesn't travel that far so floating point won't be a thing
so i'm not sure that this will be a good solution
if alleged meters are studs in deadrails, and there's every reason to think so, 80k studs is a very large distance which will make floating point error a thing, it won't be huge but... honestly bruh no one's going to help you make a deadrails clone, just think about it: anyone who can, probably already are making one for themselves, and any of those who don't care enough, are you offering to pay them enough to care?
i'm not making the game for profit purposes 😔 i'm just making it because it seemed like a fun idea and i wanted to play it with friends mostly
yes and cloning tsb and dress to impress seems like fun too, games aren't free and they don't grow on trees, if you want to play those games with friends mostly maybe consider a private server
coz those are a thing
i don't get your point since you just came in here rambling about the stuff i already knew
and all i was asking for was possible help with a problem i've encountered
i'm making the game to improve my capabilities in studio
that's the main reason
your original post asplained wanting to replicate dead rails train system. the point i was explaining is copying that 1 for 1 isn't going to impress anyone and is probably going to cost you more than it could earn since that work aint free, comparable to cloning tsb and d2i, wishful thinking. you then said you just wanted to play with friends mostly for fun. that's great, so i suggested maybe you can just buy a private server, most popular games offer them. and then you complained about rambing and missing the point and wanting possible help with a problem?
i'm not totally sure what kind of help you're expecting but, if you think i can't offer it then who am i to say otherwise? i bid you best of luck good sir
i don't want to continue this argument
i understand what you meant
i am just looking for possible help, i am not copying it 1:1, good luck to you too
thanks, i was never talking about a 1:1 clone but, eh i see no reason to continue either. authentically just want to help. main thing i wanted to say is that floating point error becomes a thing past 65535 studs. not sure how much that helps but, it will definitely be a thing at that scale
