different fps games use different viewmodel techniques for different reasons. it's not about performance, it is more how the end result looks and functions compared to the needs of the game.
would be, but creating a 3rd person viewmodel system in first person would be wayyyyy harder than just creating a standard viewmodel.
there are techniques you can use to offset the viewmodel and rotate and move it base on movement and camera rotation, recommend looking into those.
and not to mention the control you get from the client
having all that sway and whatnot appear on the 3rd person character would look weird
