just tried to top this perfect medium rare, ended up getting a splash of smoking hot oil on my arm 
To top it, I think you need to sous-vide now
But also that sounds painful, are you using oil in the pan? Because steaks should have enough fat for you to render on the skillet and allow you to not use any oil. Then the butter basting will be the only thing closest the what the steak gets cooked in
i had a small amount of oil in the pan, then the fat rendered down and splashed on me yikes
Next time ill make a sauce out of the leftover butter and fat
