people I'm actively talking to here, I don't mind if they ask to take it to DMs and I say yes. But I don't want people that have never even chatted on this server since joining DMing me because they saw I'm ranked while I chat

Quite a few high-ranked people have turned off DMs here, so at least they found the number of DMs annoying. I also know several that had their rank removed as their "fix" and others got higher-priority roles. I wouldn't have made the suggestion if I didn't think quite a few people could benefit

I don't know what you're talking about. A new role doesn't have to have anything to do with ranks to hide your rank
copy the supporter rank, change the color and icon, add it to the server guide for opting in. Tada my idea is fully implemented

Seems like you can't make it change position in member list without making it a group that'd show up higher, but you can absolutely set it not to show in the member list and set it higher priority so it'll show that role's color and icon instead (just tested on my own server)

When I had no role, I got no DMs. When I had S2, I got moderate spam. Now with S3 I had even more.
I expect if I left DMs on when I get S4 and Ranker, it'd just get exponentially worse
