Focus on both sides, the force doesnt discriminate. Just make sure your focusing things that are worth focusing, like requirements and good teams.
For content, focus on assault battles early on (in events, they occur monthly and give rewards forever) and early journey guides. Try to set one long term goal (like a galactic legend) so u dont spread ur roster too thin and have something to work toward. (i mention assault battles because thats the easiest form of ROI you can get in swgoh, and its best to get going early)
Hyperdrive is mega worth it, best bundle in game. ever.
For teambuilding, use swgoh.gg for meta teams and counters to teams. dont use the in-game team options, they usually lack synergy. So u will have to improvise. overall game tips, is take advantage of discord and youtube, ask plenty of questions and be nosy. Theres a LOT ur going to figure out here that you wont figure out if you just played the game blindly
