Hey, returning player after many years away.... game looks interesting, but im not really sure what I should be focusing on first. My arena squad gets blasted by these squads of characters with bright white or red borders, but since my crystal income is currently low it feels like a slow grind to get the gear so I can get relics on some characters. Prefer something light side and jedi to grind towards, but not sure if thats a good idea or now. Profile linked below.

Hmm your crystal income is gonna suffer.
You can either restart the account which gives you a new fleet shard, or stay with this one but your crystal income will be terrible for months.
The journey LST’s will give you 80% of what you’ve got at the moment at relics anyway.

Ditto with @scarlet cedar's advice. Struggling in Grand Arena is normal - returning players who have tons of relic levels have to start at the lower levels to climb back up; so it can feel like a big grind until you start doing well. That's a major flaw with GA and unavoidable.
Staying with a fleet shard will really hamper your crystal income for months and prolong a lot of the progress you need to start doing well in GAs. Crystal income is critical to participating in era content, and participating in era content will get you lightspeed tokens to skip a bunch of the node farming for new characters. The anniversary lightspeed tokens will get a lot of the characters you have unlocked (phoenix, rebels, etc.) and some of the important ones you don't (inquistors) up to gear 13 and ready for relic levels.
If you're willing to spend money, the $9.99 hyperdrive bundle available for new players will also take the sting out of having to start over. There are also TONs of lightspeed bundles to advance certain key characters and ships quickly. Good examples are the Finalizer LSB, which gives you access to R5 Bossk w/ Hounds Tooth or the Raddus LSB (comes with Bossk as well, but also Ashoka and her starfighter).

as its gonna be difficult to progress due to your acc not having any relics and your shard is old

Yeah but.. what they mean is restart and spend. If you do not want to spend just keep going.
Also, ppl are retiring all the time and giving their accounts away. I wouldnt go higher than 3m above your currently level but it’s definitely possible to pick up another account in less than1 year. Reason to not go higher is that it’s a lot of work to learn all the kits.
