I use snapseed to edit photos, I just did some basic adjustments some blur and grain filter, then added more temperature

Because people like blur and don’t realize at 400-600mm f8 still gives bokeh. It’s not like their kit 24-55mm lens that at f4 everything is in focus and still have to be at iso 800 for enough light.

I love the grain, I think it's fun to experiment with textures, I do it all the time with my photos, I'll share one later.

But I agree with Quarkie on not just the building being blurred but the overall circular blur that seems to be framing the pic. Especially with the leading lines from the stairway below, it feels weird to lead toward a blurry section.

Is it just me or is updating a lens's firmware a really weird thing to do or even consider?

Well, SONY firmware updates appear to "improve AF performance". Another lens that I actually needed to update was a Chinese one that wasn't reporting the focal length to the camera when shooting stills, firmware update fixed that. I'd prefer everything work perfectly out of the box, but I suppose it is nice that if a mistake is found later on, they can at least fix them on the fly.

I mean, don't get me wrong, the Google statement is not wrong in the sense that if the camera body doesn't do eye detection, autofocus etc then the lens doesn't do it on its own. But how well it does it, how quickly the lens reacts to the camera's demands, that is a lens firmware component of the AF.

🤷 going through all the Nikkor lens change logs for firmware I can’t find any that relates to AF or stabilization. It’s all command ring stuff and the closest to AF I found was on the 180-600mm lens to actually hit focus when zoomed out to 600mm and focused at infinity.

If I have one advice (I’ve got plenty of experience), go to a local lab that has the screens, and review the photo with the person working there, don’t use an online service

Even if you have a screen with good factory calibration there is just too many variables, don’t try it just go straight for the good stuff, and you’re also helping local labs

You should look for the word dibond, it’s aluminium with a plastic core

Well idk what printer they use but basically any service that’s not a lab will use CMYK printers. Good printers are RGB and use 10-12 different cartridges to achieve that.

CMYK has 16k possible colors, an AdobeRGB 10-bit print (which is industry standard) are 1.07 billion, small difference 🙃

And this is why you don’t use your own monitor, if it only does 100% sRGB, you’re sending that file seeing the small triangle and they’re gonna print the showing the big triangle, you just don’t see what you print correctly

Ok enough yapping, but just know the rabbit hole goes much deeper

I print through printique by adorama out of NYC, and they say set your stuff to sRGB as they dont print adobe color profile. So its a lot more accurate from screen to print.

And you also just lose a ton of colors… you can simulate a color gamut in photoshop and LrC but it’s finicky and you’ll never get the same photo you already had, saturating the colors just doesn’t do it.
