Just got back from my very first trip to Japan. Was there for 21 days.

The first week I went to both Disney parks and went on a bunch of rides. Then my 2nd week I explored a few spots in Tokyo. For the 3rd and final week I returned to Disney.

#

My favourite ride was in DisneySea called Raging Spirits.

I went on it 60 times in one day. Many of the Cast Members recognized me, and had huge smiles each time they saw me. It was really nice. I wasn't looking for attention. I just simply really liked the ride and they were great people to be around.

The next morning, I tried to write a thank you letter for them in English and Japanese, and put it in a nice folder I found at one of the shops.

#

The Supervisor met me at the exit, thanked me for the letter, and asked me to return just before the ride closed.

It was my last full day, and I went on the ride over 40 times. I had no idea that I would've gone on it 100 times in two days. The Cast Members were very surprised and amazed also that I was able to ride it so many times via the Single Rider line.

At the end of the day, they wanted me to ride on the very last train for the day. I was very overwhelmed by the attention. I didn't expect anything in return for the letter. I just wanted to thank them for their hard work. It was certainly the highlight of my entire trip!

I returned the next morning for a few hours before I had to fly back home to try to get photos of Cast Members that I had missed. Sadly, I wasn't able to get a photo of all of them since they work different days/shifts and I had to catch a bus at 2PM.

#

I guess I’m looking for a new RF zoom or prime to replace my 18-45

#

Maybe to go alongside it but maybe not

#

I’d love to have a 32mm

#

Anyone here know much about the RF 24-50 or 24-105?

#

Wondering if that’s what I get

#

kinda doubt yall would know since it’s mostly EF/E/Z in here but I’m asking

#

Even maybe 18-150 if I can stretch the budget or spend less on pc

feral vector
#

also this is why I bought a premium lens lol

#

Sigma chefskiss

jagged lake
feral vector
#

afaik it doesn't matter what the actual maximum aperture is, simply shooting wide open will have the most vignetting

jagged lake
#

I’m sad the camera makers decided aperture is a ā€œā€proā€ā€ feature… i wasn’t around in 1984 but all my minolta lenses are like f3.5 or better (300mm is f5.6)

feral vector
#

your camera might have lens correct profiles built in; not sure if they would help with vignetting though

#

bigger aperture means bigger glass which means bigger lens

#

just makes it more expensive

jagged lake
#

yeah fair

feral vector
#

modern lenses are full of motors

jagged lake
#

I probably have ā€œproā€ lenses from back then that are cheap now because they’re so old

feral vector
#

which makes them big even without a super wide aperture

jagged lake
#

28 2.8, 50 1.7, 35-70 f3.5

#

I also don’t get why the glass is so tiny

#

On new lenses

feral vector
#

lighter weight too

#

my sigma lens is uhhh

#

nearly 2 lbs

jagged lake
feral vector
#

also the kit lens is aimed at vlogging these days on those bodies

jagged lake
#

Lens weight doesn’t matter so much to me… I mean my camera bag has only nearly suffocated me a couple times…

jagged lake
#

Not as good for photos

feral vector
#

you can get a manual focus if you wanna save a buck

jagged lake
#

I also really really like the aperture ring on the old lenses and don’t love it on the new

also @jagged lake I just tried extension tubes and they're pretty bad, they have a ton of chromatic aberration, its crazy

That’s odd

#

I’ve heard from a lot of other places they don’t affect much since they don’t have glsss

ember plaza
#

but i have the files at home I can show you, it's bad

#

I'm thinking it just has to do with the algorithm that deleted chromatic aberration that is calibrated for each lens is not the same, so it doesn't correct it enough

personally, i'll rent a macro lens to get those sweet 250MP files

# verbal laurel What is even the point of film, if u have to take a photo of a photo ?

after shooting 10 rolls:
-different looks that you can choose but never really know exactly what will come out
-exciting/intimidating/entising because you cannot have a preview, and then have to wait for your images to be developped
-you only have 12/36 images so you better be sure of your photo, it limits you in some way so that you don't overshoot, it's another psychology
-its kind of a hipster thing lol

For Nikon or Sony 28/1.5=18.667

Oh wow didn’t know that

feral vector

# jagged lake Oh wow didn’t know that

Well, it is a technicality. Estonia is on the mainland, but it has two land borders. One to Russia, which I'm not going to travel through, and Latvia in the South. Going to Central Europe through Latvia would take over a day of driving as it requires going around Kaliningrad (Russian exclave), which means for practical purposes, we almost always fly to our target country unless the target is within the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania). And flying to most places goes over the Baltic sea in order to, again, avoid Russian airspace and because it is actually a shorter route to Central Europe. Hence, 'overseas' is not quite accurate, but also not wrong either. It is like calling Alaska 'overseas' for most of the U.S. to avoid driving through Canada.

Normal scanners are around 300-600 DPI, which means you’d get a scan of your photo that’s only 300 pixels in width. Compare that to film scanners which are 3000 dpi+ and to get the max res you’d need 7000+ DPI, which you can get with mirrorless scanning

Kodak has a 200€ film scanner that does everything and spits out 12/24mp files

#

Or you can get really old Nikon Coolscan

#

Epson has flatbed scanners with film holders if you can find them for cheap

#

But most likely lab scanning will be the cheapest

jagged lake
#

Lab scanning is temporary cheapest

#

But adds up

#

just gonna do that for now, do proper scans when I get more moneys

@jagged lake I wonder if this will cause retail pricing to go up

#

Tldr, Kodak Eastman manufactures film and is doing well

#

Kodak Alaris markets and sells retail film (they buy the film from Kodak Eastman)

#

Alaris is now owned by private equity

#

My opinion of most private equity acquisitions is not good, so we will see

Ain’t that fun

Yayyyyyy……

It's a plane window, so possibly. And yes, on my camera as well, I basically don't take it off so I didn't even consider side-effects.

ember plaza
#

Im 90% sure its due to diffraction but I’ll look it up

narrow pollen
#

Oh god, physics.

ember plaza
#

Actually it’s because of the refractive index that’s different in the different layers of the window, basically slows down light which shifts the colors

If it’s one of the electronic dimming windows it could be something like an LCD

#

Tbh I’ve never been to the local (big) airport

just a couple small ones for air shows or whatev
