so we frozen a film is pretty much "no expire"
however, once film gets more than 5ish years past expiry, you do have to compensate when shooting, and you can expect quality to decrease
33C and 90% RH here š„² trying my best to conserve my rolls
i.e., a 20yo film won't perform the same as a newly manufactured film
it will be fine till you get it back home
although humidity is rough
i'd expect it to still have some supply chain circulation for a while
But prices have gone up for velvia and true superia isn't cheap either
sad
there was some of the kodak manufactured "fuji color 400" that was shipping on listings for superia and maybe even in superia packaging for a little while but I believe that was all fixed up
Wow thats some old stuff
No ?
So old new stock?
I'm sure if anyone finds 2026+ expiry they will post it on reddit
in this case, "old new stock" can mean stuff manufactured last year
Curious what the state of film photography is like in Japan? Want to know what the iconic film fridge at Yodobashi camera looks like today?
I visited 16 film photography stores in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara, and took pictures. In this video, I report on the interesting products found in Japan that I haven't seen before, investigate a few regi...
This reminds my early childhood
so they are producing again?
Thanks stuff evolves
TLDr, Fuji is just not very clear about it
Cause film too much $
One thing for sure is that they arenāt exporting a whole lot
Oh itās still like 15$ a roll here
and fuji color 200/400 is kodak
I can imagine something
Velvia 20$
Carter being held at costumes cause we decided to bring 5 kilos of film from Japan
Oh
Damn, i just see the design looks old ig
Auch
velvia/provia/superia isn't cheap here tho
they haven't changed the box branding in a while lol
You can still find velvia in the US ?
some shops get it in once in a while
i assume they import it themselves in small quantities
So much resident evil save equip
Why you guys don't import
If is so nice film ?
fuji just started doing some packaging in china
although I believe that is for sale in the chinese domestic market
Oh I donāt live in Japan lol, Iām just visiting
I know
She bought some 2026 rolls
Have a nice trip by the way
then there's hope
Like I think there must be a website or someone willing to sell overseas
unfortunately most of fuji's capacity is still for instant film these days
would love to see some proper competition for kodak to keep pricing in check
I donāt
I think selling photos kinda died a long time ago
F
selling photos on their own? pretty much dead
There does exist a small segment for selling physical prints (prints, photobooks, calendars, etc); but nobody is buying digital photos from someone else
*exception is hiring a photographer
well yeah
people still make money by printing out other peoples photos
but pretty ded
it is small
Tfym
Prints are not dead at all lmfao, people still need to put things on their walls man, digital age didnāt change that
its nearly dead
No ? Do you sell prints ?
I sell prints and I can tell you itās not anywhere close to dead, because why would it be
Free camera
The Minolta
I would take it
That aināt free
I aināt that rich for that much stuff
Damn that R50 system is compact
I would love a camera like this. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTNrXXcvm/
Like 50 shots a seconds
And cat pictures
Ah, sports cameras are incredible
So compact!
Smaller than my SLR!
DSLRs are huge!
Yes š„²
Less huge
Mirrors and batteries take up space
Fair point
But mirror isnāt in the way in SLR
Nikon has an ENORMOUS one but I think thatās by design
Larger
Huhhhh?
Mirror is in SLR
Older SLRs are smaller just cause there isn't as much
Hmm ok
Both 35mm, electronic
But the bigger one has more physical controls, larger battery, etc
Same with my DSLR
Lots of controls, a screen
true
Tis why I wanted a digital lmao
Yyyyup
Cost per shot going down
First pic costs $1600
Second makes both $800
Etc
Haha
Justification
lol microsd filled VERY quickly
realized only 8gb/128gb was formatted
skill issue
(it was like that because 3d printer)
fat32 whatever
ALSO- md to RF and some MD rear-lens/body caps are on the way
needed a few spare caps
one for body, body + rear for teleconverter, rear spare for 28mm
Get a 256gb full size SD smh
Wow thatās dreadful.
My CFexpress card imports about 10-15 gigs in a minute or so. Itās blazing fast but that card sure does get toasty.
Good quality UHS-1 SD card + USB 3 card reader
Yeah only 6GBs or so took 10 minutes
I filled my 165 gb card and it took maybe 3 minutes to dump all of them into my external.
I was sad when I filled my card. I was at Holi festival.
Not sure if I need another 165gb or go to the next size up for 380 usd.
Woah. Iām purple now?
Still look blue to me
Not that it matters anymore anyway.
But the purple do look nice over the blue.
Guess I could have also looked at my roles. š pirate is in there.
Hey you finally reached pirate
Yeah. I ranked super fast during 2020/21 then 22-24 really slowed down on chatting here. Moved home and people I used to chat with a lot left.
Nothing is free, even the free camera
Welcome to rabbit hole of technology, fun enought i think much of us comes from the "exact areas" ( like software developer )
And we all like photograph and expensive ned stuff
I like it
Congrats
And it's written , free buffet with barbecue ( not that much of it ) only for 32 reals ( with dolar at 1 to 5 reals [ is more almost reaching 5.60 ], so 6-7 USA dollars )
Thatās pretty cheap for a buffet if you live in the us
I need some film š
I don't
But for 60 -80 reals ( again 10-20 dollars) you can get a nice buffet with a big barbecue
And that is why I want to remote work for US
Or go digital š
I have an EOS-M as well, thinking of upgrading my but it'll be a pain lens wise
Oof
The dead end platform
My condolences
Yeah, realistically I only have two lenses and a pair of adaptors using the M mount so I could sell those on with the camera and get something else
Come to the nikon Z side of force
Only worth it if he gets a newer z though. Z6iii, z8 or z9.
Come one
Z5 is a nice camera
Old
Yes
Auto focus ? Good enough if you have patience
Price?
Nice one
We can't be consider the potato brand user's @deft garden
I count four.
No skins for me.
100mbps WiFi NAS ingestion
Guess Iāll use the desktop next time
That way itāll do transfers up to 10x faster
Wish my NAS had 2.5gb
But it only has 1gbe
I still need to build my NAS. I have most of the parts, just need a good case with 5" bays and some more sata cables.
though some would argue an i7 9700k is OC for a nas. Its what I have spare. š
Nah
If you have it around
Better than just in the closet
I transfer using the usb C from the nikon z5
Curious using the nikon transfer, it goes faster than usb on my phone
Probably the cable
Don't forget to delid that proc ( don't remember if the 9 gen is solder)
Nah, no need for a nas. I already pay too much for electricity. Its going to just be for photos anyway. Running out of external drives rather rapidly.

Yo @feral vector what Canon camera do you recommend for me to start with to get into photography?
The rebels are super accessible but not great. Depends on how much effort you want to put into photos. If you plan to just leave it in auto and donāt edit, any will do. If you want to learn the mechanics, edit etc, Iād suggest a low end mirrorless. Easier to learn on. Should be plenty in second hand to get one for a better price.
I tend to just leave pictures alone and don't edit them, but I wouldn't mind learning the camera and learning how to edit pictures
Donāt go DLSR then honestly. Having to deal with a mirror and some guess work on how your photo will look probably wonāt be for you. Mirrorless will be closer to how your phone works minus the deep processing the phone does. Itāll give decent JPEGs but you can def make the raws look way better with some time and effort. Plenty of free editing tools to use.
Did I really pick the hardest (major) type of camera to learn on and start out with
lol
(SLR)
@elder ingot I second what CK said. If you don't wanna edit, I would advise looking for a mirrorless solution, maybe even a mirrorless point and shoot style camera
I know fuji has some popular models that turn out excellent jpegs, ricoh has a few too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q7ctbEG2Ew
This is not an exhaustive review, but it gives you an idea of what is out there
The $1,599.00 Fujifilm X100VI and the $1,046.95 Ricoh GR IIIx are two of the most popular digital point-and-shoot cameras for folks who arenāt looking to break the bank. They both come in a small package and have an APS-C sensor and a fixed focal length lens that can produce crisp images. In fact, these systems are so similar that, as a viewer, ...
I found this on MBP
naw m8
Full frame lenses = big, heavy, and expensive
also the 6D is pretty old
Canon R50 isn't a bad starting point tbh
but I might advise learning some basic editing for that camera and shooting raw
not enough of a discount to be worth it tbh
a body + lens kit isn't too much more
Of course, canon RF-S lens ecosystem is rather limited at the moment
That lens has a pretty short focal length though
But should be good enough to get my foot in the door with it
so its like 28-70mm equivalent
I wanna eventually get a decent enough telephoto so I can take actual real moon pictures, without AI doing stuff in the background
Do some research on it
But R50 isn't a bad starting point
And I like it over the sony crop bodies, although E-mount has the lens advantage with robust native 3rd party support
Which is what that camera has?
Sony = E-mount
Ah
Canon (R line) = RF/RF-S mount
I'd need adapters if I want to use third party mounts on the R50
RF-S is the crop line
What you would do is get an EF-RF adapter so you can use old DSLR lenses
they will be bigger and heavier, but there are a ton of EF mount lenses
I'll look into it some more
For moon you need a really long lens. This is 600mm cropped from 45 mp to 24 mp.
Google (and my phone) says this is 18.60mm focal length with the standard 12mp camera my phone has
f3/4 and 1/60 shutter speed with ISO25
Well as you see, canāt compare phone with camera. Because 18mm would be in the ultra wide range on a full size sensor.
It's a regular wide angle lens as the main sensor
which sensor
100X zoom. Not sure what sensor exactly
So the 10x
Yeah
Depending how small that sensor is, the 35mm FF equivalent focal length could be like 200mm
Or more
Yeah
seems about right
So if I wanna recreate the 100x zoom on a standard camera I'll need a lens that size?
sort of
if you were to take a picture at the normal 5x of that lens, thats what the equivalent would be
using the 100x zoom is harder to find the actual equivalent since its a mixture of periscope lens sensor + main sensor and some digital cropping
So much math that goes into sensor sizes. Canon crop sensor smaller than Nikons so they have a 1.6x crop factor. Sensor size to sensor size you could probably figure out the math but like Carter said, with digital crop and everything else the phone just does no real equivalent.
yeah canon aps-c is slightly smaller but tbh its close enough not to provide a real world difference
If anything, better night time iso noise control.
BIRRRD
IA ....
How you broke? Smh
Because I spent $1650 on a camera
Thatās how
And I donāt get paid for a week
I have like $70 till then
Dangerous move
yeah I know
70s a lot. Thatās easily 140 meals (top ramen)š
Almost as bad as Taco
yeah
being a basement gremlin seriously helps LOL
At least its still a positive number though ngl lmfao
Yeah I donāt want debt
Unlike someone else who lets theirs go into negatives lmfao
Gooood :3
And I want it to stay that way
Being a basement gremlin does help though
My wife yells at me when I donāt know what much something costs or how much we have in our bank is how comfortable I am with my finances. And as a kid who grew up poor as shit, itās really really nice. I hope everyone gets to experience that.
Also, not a bad view on the drive home from work.
That's a few lens filters!
Actually I have $350 in my bank account
Flower with a bee and two butterflies on it
4k checking, 5k HYSA (new one for me so not much) 3k main bank savings. 10k secondary bank savings. š¬ thatās just mine and not what my wife ferrets away from me so I donāt spend it all.
Niiiice
Well done
Iām not a complete idiot I have around 1500 saved
not touching that
I fully funded my Roth IRA last month so that was painful
That is a lot to throw in at once. I put in through the year. My agency matches first 5% I do traditional and Roth.
I don't get any matching with my contracting agency :(
One of the many reasons I want to go FTE asap
I'm contributing 25% of each paycheck at the moment to 401k
Iām gov so we do TSP.
hi
XD
im think how im going to use the camera, to make money to compensate for the camera XD
u should write a book
They have sites you can sell photos to and they make towels or shower curtains etc using your photos and you make money.
Towels ?
sounds fun have a towels of a birb
XD
but i will search more
Itās pretty cool. You basically sell your image and people can buy whatever they want with your image on it. They print and ship and you make money.
Yesssss itās herreeeee
300mm f/5.6 tele -> 2x teleconverter -> MD to RF adapter -> R50
How much light do you want to lose?
Yes.
Lightbulb at the top of the stairs
longgggggggggggggggggg
Yes
960mm focal length too
Not even the max this platform can do though hahaha
Not even close
Thereās an 800mm minolta lens you can get
That would get me equivalent to 2560mm focal
Funny thing, even Carter recommended me the R50
Yeah I saw
Great camera btw
I just donāt think it fits your price range
But if it does
Go for it
I heard you like adapters so I put an adapter on your adapter
I should get a T to MD and put on the 400mm
Who could have imagined that a 960mm full manual lens with no stabilization would be hard to shoot handheld
I'll make it work
It'll be a while
The R10 isnāt that much more expensive over the r50. Why r50 over the r10?
Because Carter recommended it
I was asking Carter. š
It's also $700
YOURE MAKING ME QUESTION
PLEASE HUSH SO I DONT REMAIN BROKE FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE
oh itās $300 more
thatās a lot more what you mean
51.8% more
On the website with the sales, body for body, the difference looked negligible but I left the site.
Oh I guess it is 300 more. Nvm.
nice
just hope my photos dont get in something weird
did you guys thought some time about build your own lens?
and they say the z5 cant shoots birds
ok, probably not so fast birds ....

AstrHori AF 85mm f/1.8 Z Review & Sample Images by Ken Rockwell
Complete Review & Sample Images https://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/astrhori/85mm-f18.htm
I got my Nikon Z version at https://www.astrhori.cn/products/85mm-f1-8-full-frame-af-lens-for-z?ref=kenrockwell
I'd get the Sony version at https://www.astrhori.cn/products/85mm-f1-8-full-frame-au...
250 dolars for a 85 AF on Z mount
sounds good
but on the MP side, i would love to have more, to crop without losing to much.... (50 mm 1.8, really nice lens)
the problem when photograph whites in the middle day hard light
is that you need to use low iso and really fast shutter speed
other whise the bird will just look like a lanter
well
i guess that is not really a down side, since much speed = much details
R50 is decently cheaper and a good beginner camera
R10 is APSC?

These Chinese lens are really looking nice
I would love to have some metal lens ( probably not good for umidity weather )
Huh. Youāre right. The comparison chart is misleading.
Ken Rockwell is goated
Didn't know he did YouTube
For now
Everyone makes fun of him in photo discord.
Chinese lenses are impressive I will say that. Does take some doing in finding good ones, but when they are good, they are good.
why?
Heās very geeky and dated.
oh no
To be fair, he has been reviewing cameras and lenses for decades?
his website is delightfully old
Imagine making fun of someone for being geeky. Absolutely mental.
is more common than u may think
before 2012 (when geek start to be cool), even today it happens
AAAAAAAAAAAAA, lens arrives today @deft garden
OH THAT'S LOVELY!
thanks !
Yeah itās huge. Boomers love to comment how big it is.
Hey now
I'm not that old yet
šš more so meant in the wild. Even the 70-200mm size Iāll get āwoah everyone stand back Nat geo is hereā š āwoah thatās a huge lensā turns to wife āhe compensating?ā
Made my z5 full frame looks like a apsc camera
Hahahaha
This makes me want to go out with my 400mm on the converter on the adapter
Probably about 18ā total
Havenāt tried it yet
I managed to break the aperture blades in it
Not a huge deal, already got refunded for it bc it didnāt work to begin with
thx eBay
Temptation
1000/1600mm on RFS lol
Hahaha
I knowwwwww
I wait
Sadly wait
If itās still there on Friday Iāll probably buy it.
nice u got 2 dolars more
hehe
hey @deft garden what tipe of strap you use on yours z8 + 180 ?
i used the ones that came with camera ( conected using the camera)
Nah I just said 70 bc lazy
but too short
oh, make sense
and i felt i almost broke the z5
since decided to only hold the camera body, muscle memory, since the 50 is so light
but cant do that with 2.5 kilos of glass now
Bigger
so we are all competing now to see who has the bigger
i see
time to get some tele converters ....
Who
Whyyyy
Oh ok
I need one of these
went download davind resolv to test out
davint asked even my address to download the free software
like, why do fuck do you need to know my street ?
viewbug
I'd use it for film scanning so it would be looking into a light box
Give them the address for the US white house
Ohhh thats smart use of a macro
the 180
is amazing
even at 6.3
horrible ligh
i still could get amazing resolts with a entry level camera like the z5
nikon, goood job
on the Z line
I only use peak design capture clip. The strap confines me too much especially with a back pack on.
make sense
well, i think i will stay with the strap for now
maybe build my own
the strap on Z cameras, are good, but now excellent, especially in hot days. but i would love to change my lens bag for a bigger strap any time
since that bag really dont use
I do have a peak design strap as well and itās much better than the z strap.
Just donāt know if you have access to peak design down there.
They're 70 USD already for the full sized leash.
yeah my roommate has an a7IV with a 90mm(?) macro we use for scanning currently
but I wanna get my own macro lens for my 5dmk4 still
its so expensive but so worth it
I do need to get the capture clip at some point
but having the strap around my neck is reassuring with how heavy my setup is
Oh 100% I love all but one of my PD gear and thatās the pro pad. The pro pad failed at the stitching.
Capture clip holds up to 200 pounds. Itās a solid set up. Clips to bags, your belt etc. I love the clips. Slip it off to take my photo and lock it in place to walk and rest my hand.

So. Enjoying the lens?
You a strong man yet lifting that thing?
Nope.

who needs Gym, when have lens right ?
i just need to workout my core, since i tent to let the belly loose when carry heavy stuff and that is really not good.
and congrats @feral vector at your 1 year in the job !
Bicep curling lenses
Pretty much
Tried to photograph with it from the passager seat
While the car is running
Sometimes I got so stupid ideias, worked more less
But now I'm out of breath
XD
6k steps
Holding the z5 with 180-600
With a pack pack ( with the 50 mm in )
Does that counts as a workout ?
The zoom is ridiculous @deft garden
Ultra max zoom
With the digital from the camera at 600
Just watching a pigeon
Wait didn't you hand held it ?
What about this
I do hand hold it. But my wrist is jacked so between shooting sessions or when I walk I capture clip it.
Is this a decent SD speed?
I hardly use SD aside from this so I wouldn't know
Seems I won't need another card though, 128GB seems fine, even with RAW+L.
dangit I pressed copy not move
also figured out my NAS issue
its connected to a passive switch with 4 other devices
1gbps max

Mine is good for now, I hope coding don't destroy it
For me it is
Alright as long as itās not abysmal
This sounds more interesting but what the heck is 91:8 is that the f stop???
Good question
I need to monitor my sd card speed next time since Lightroom doesn't tell me while importing
The mirror lens (other one) will be lighter and easier to handle but photos are very soft
Oh I think it's supposed to be f8 and the poster just can't type
if dont work for photos i bet you can build a cannon with
lol 91:8 I didnāt notice that
Yeah its f/8
im tired as fuck
mood
On SD cards youāll see v30 V60 or V90. V90 is the fastest but also most expensive. V30 will have the slowest read write speeds.
Alrighty thx
For most, v30 is fine. For wedding or sports or wildlife, v90.
yes

Google says that's a duck
:CaciqueOfJudgement:
Agreed. Just explaining it to him in case he chooses one day he wants more.
And with my discount I might get a UHS3 for price of UHS1
But why
Your camera only supports UHS1
I guess as long as it runs at UHS-1 speeds
I was doing some research for my camera and some forums claimed UHS2 cards might perform worse than UHS-1 cards
Weird
I figured a UHS1 advertised card might not hit max UHS1 speeds, but a UHS2-3 will
Ah
So I'm guessing a uhs 2 card might only run at half duplex in a uhs 1 slot
However, you wouldn't be losing that much speed
So my guess is worst case you lose a little bit of bandwidth
No but I did export from Lightroom with HDR enabled
This just confuses me more
@molten coyote discord supports HDR now???
Ffs
I am trying to export avif but it is slow
Fair
Eh?
I don't think in chat embeds do, but if I open an hdr image in gallery view on an hdr capable device (phone), it loads the hdr version of my jpg
Whaaaaat
Let me know if these look any better
Requires to enable experiments on discord
files are shown as avif
so no embed shown
Yeah I didn't expect them to embed
Avif has an HDR enable on export in Lightroom
This is all I have
HDR Streaming is a code based enable on Desktop using the console(I wouldn't do it)
What's your display
MPG 321 URX QD OLED

HDR always on
ah 32
Wonder if I should try my iMac for viewing photos on OLED monitor because subpixels
Would does your screenshot look cooked
Windows
Windows hdr
Oh
bork
So I tried default HDR and vivid HDR on on the 5D
I think that one was vivid
I don't think I'll use the HDR shooting very often
But I was curious to see how it turns out
idk how to take HDR screenshots on windows
Producing jpg sucks tho
Uhhh that might not be possible tbh

Is this how it looks in person on your display
Oh are you editing it
yea
It's lossy so get wrekt
This is what it looks more like with the annoying ass screenshot problem
Btw this is what I currently use
discord crashing when I try to upload
Thanks, dev beta
there
This is the way
Do you want left 256gb or right 256gb
LOL
Have you tried dark table yet
It's a free app on Windows
I say give it a shot before integrating yourself into the Adobe ecosystem
Alright then I shall
I currently use just Lightroom cc + 1tb but I shall go back to full photography plan when it comes time to renew later this year
Mostly so I can do negative conversions with Lightroom classic
Cloud storage means nothing to me tbh. I have SO MUCH physical storage
I don't have much interest in Photoshop
It's a shame you can't buy Lightroom classic standalone
You canāt?!
I donāt have interest, was wondering if it was necessary
ok this fun
How's this @feral vector
be kind pls my first darktable edit
lol
....wait
I just made it look like Kodak Gold
lol again
DEER
What
took a picture of a pole just to see how far my lens went... only now am I realizing there was a bluebird on top of it.
I LOVE bluebirds
shame
squirrel
(dont zoom in on the dude I poorly retouched a phone holster away to make the photo look older)
That is one sweet ride.
Classic Porsches look beautiful, wish I could own one one day.
I have one of those for my phone
The SONY ZV-E10 Mark 2 was just announced. 300⬠price bump over the original, improvements: new bigger battery, 10-bit colour and support for 4k60 (but early reviews show rapid overheating within half an hour). I am feeling better about my decision to go with the original.
Where are all the buttons š
On the touchscreen. I mainly use the main wheel control on the right of the screen (no viewfinder!), it is slightly slower than having all the physical buttons and dials, but I would not use a lot of the buttons anyway. Plus, I have remapped some custom buttons already as the auto-modes for background blur don't interest me that much. I can do that manually and better.
I prefer what you get from the proper video cameras, but this is also about 3x the original ZV-E10
And by proper I mean it has a fan
Yeah size was a major factor for me. I can actually put mine in my jacket pocket!
No overheating š
Overheating is why I avoided the 6100, 6400, 6700. Opening the display will keep the E10 in check with recording, but it is not enough for the E10 Mark 2 when filming at the top quality according to reviewers. Hence, not much of an upgrade. Though 10-bit colour would be neat.
Wait is that all there is
Very glad I completely ignored Sony
I do precisely 0 actual video
A little bit of messing around but that doesnāt count bc thereās no plot or subject even
Just seeing what my camera can do
The settings are all there, but you have to navigate some quick menus for them. Definitely a downside if you want to shoot quickly.
Yes. I quite dislike the controls and ergonomics of Sony crop bodies
It is a little more forgivable on the video focused models, but it still isn't great
My whole household hates using the a6400
I do dislike the camera button being so far at the front. I keep mispressing it.
Ew
They all seem video focused with bad controls
generic VloggerCam3000
Well the Z & FX lines are video focused
The a6XXX line isn't "video focused", per se, but are generally pretty capable for video.
At least the most recent models
scanned this one myself
it looks alright
I like that I have more control
but man scanning with a 100-400 and a horrible tripod and no film holder is hard
heres the lab scanned version
hm
whole lot grainier, and a whole lot more contrast
wow they cut off a ton of detail
also they overcropped it
I need to invest in a proper setup for this
and a macro lens
lab vs me
more detail, less grain, less blown out, but also a lot darker..
slightly edited my scan

this is just one of ur photos
