Sooooooo this is funny to me since it's been highly debated whether or not Chicken Tikka Masala is an Indian dish in origin. While it does share some similarities to dishes that can be found in India, it's very much it's own dish.

Some say they think it came from a South Asian (which includes many nationalities, not just Indian) community in Great Britain while others believe it came from a restaurant in Scotland from a British Pakistani chef (which would mean this dish is not Indian). They do very much offer tartar sauce with fish and chips in some shops. I watch a handful of British cooking shows and they have also featured tartar sauce with fish chips. It's not as common but it's still very much an option you can get at some places over there.

From what ive experienced in getting fish in restaurants here in Michigan. Tartar sauce pretty much always comes with the meal, as well as a slice of lemon. Though i use neither lol
