Its a hard concept to balance. Especially when other classes have access to ward aswell
Anything that ties defense to offense is very hard to balance. Especially in a game where people like to pretend defenses don't matter (because enemies that die in one hit don't get to act), right up until they do actually matter a lot (in pvp, hard pve content). 😅
In addition there's several different competing ideas around class-locking skills (good or bad?), ward regeneration (should it be easy or hard?), the ward/defensive formula itself (should ward be multiplicative or not?), and so on.

80% dark arcane holy dragon resistance amity
If you don't have a good resistance amity, then use ward of balor, stack all that elemental res, use rhada soul adorns ect, gotta stack some sort of element res

There are two kinds of resistances in Orna, and that type of resistance doesn't impact it's damage
I've been running gilgamage for the past few years, i don't see anything wrong with making hcorvus work in attack based builds
According to testing Towerfall's damage is slightly reduced by having an elemental immunity, so base Beowulf may take slightly less damage than Beo Auriga
But the only significant ways to reduce it (and Ultima's) damage is Rhada Souls or an amity
And gilga can't even equip mage gear 
Ward of balor reduced the dmg for me with the holy and dark on
wasn't significantly but it took about 5k off
how do you know it wasnt just normal damage variance
because resist buffs have never worked on ultima as far as Im ware and towerfall is a similar omnimancy
It takes a while before you get all those elements, I have 20 minutes to ponder on my 0AL alt trying to push through the fight, 10% chance is low, and I get hit by TF at least 9-11 times before those resistances finally get on

What class are you using and are you using an amity that reduces % tf ele damage

amities/adorns won't help you zero out tf damage anyway
they're a final damage multiplier, and you can't multiply any non-zero number down to zero

due to bof I have about 15k attack, then it's just M2 multipliers on top with heretic 2.5x crit mult, temp buffs with crit poise and 40 30 amity. If gilga could equip mage gear we'd probably see crazy things as well from that lol
Idk, we cant use mage gear and, even if we could, our stat passive is poop. Also BoF plays a huge part on that atk, which wouldnt be much of an option
I'm happy Wyrmhunt was extended, it's been a good 4 weeks of grinding, but I'm also happy that there's only 24 hours left now.

this is what I have with 290 yel kills. Basically every ornate except thief boots and the greatstaff, and the greatstaff is the only reason why Im killing this many

Welp last day of the event and I didnt manage to get an ornate greatstaff unfortunately. I hope yel towers get 50 floor tower luck scaling the next time the event returns. The reduction in drops after that floor scaling change was very noticeable
Yeah, I usually got a daily Ornate item when I used my 5x 50 towers, since this change it became scarce
I know its just rng, but it feels so discouraging to not even get a single ornate (nevermind the %) after putting in this much effort; doing the dungeons, finding the wild towers etc. For me it's the first orna event where I really feel shafted. The tower itself was quite fun to do imo, more fun than normal towers but the event still left a sour taste in my mouth due to the grindiness of it all
the change was also just done without any player input and wasn't even mentioned in any patch notes. Why not be transparent about it?

Ok I am pretty sure some changes were made to ornate rate for Yel since a few days ago. Why didnt NF inform the playerbase about it or was it a bug? 😢
I doubt the ornate chance itself was changed, but it was like 11 days ago when the change was made to the floor drop scaling if that's what you mean. With a 50 floor it was 90% drop chance, twice so an expected number of 1.8 of each drop. After the change it went to 65% (25 floor scaling every time) so 1.3 of every item expected. This of course results in a lower number of ornates seen
There wasnt an issue with Ornate rates, but I believe there was a bug with what the length of the Yelbeghen Tower was considered when calculating drop rolls, of which that was fixed.
IIRC:
The original tower floor count was considered for drop rates, when it wasnt desired by the studio to do so. Now it correctly ignores original tower length.
This means that
- People that did <25 Floor Towers converted into Yelbeghen "got more drops" once the bug was fixed
- People that did >25 Floor Towers converted to Yelbeghen "got less drops" once the bug was fixed
or something to that effect? Someone else correct me if I'm wrong somewhere in here or something needs further clarification.
I'm just sad I couldn't collect dragon heads the way I was by selecting t9 boss horde on the last day because of a bug that makes you do t11

That's not what my inventory would say, but it could just be my feeling after getting lucky ornates in the first days and then by pure coincidence getting less after the changes.
But it highlights how important getting high quality loot is during an event with limited drop sources
yeah for most other events you can brute force your way through bad rng but for this event that's much harder due to amount of grinding required
That and the base difficulty/annoyance of the trial you need to complete, rendering Anguish way too perilious
I would go for another event week - didn't have enough time during holidays. Still several ornates missing 😂

yea.. On the one hand it's nice for it to go longer if you didnt get what you want yet, but the grind is exhausting for sure

if you need 1000 yels to get an ornate you are screwed
just make it so we can trade 3 or 4 ornates to 1 specific and tadaaaa 😛

The suggestion I've been making is having all Yelbs drop stuff as if they were on 50 floors, instead of 25 (or the bug)

i think it should just be 100% for event towers
the bug behavior was better for endgame players, but I guess for non-endgame players who may not have 50f towers at home it's worse. They could just be doing their 10 floor OT tower and getting reduced drops without realizing

Sure more player deaths should raise the drop rate, because it means the boss is harder
The meta being, after you get the ornate you want, you grind and kill yourself at titan floor
to prevent people from getting it too

You'll just end up with T11s bullying low levels and telling them not to fight the tower

Yelbeghen battle is (IMO) the best added content, a hard and long battle, where you have to learn its strength and weaknesses to overcome, without becoming impossible with some Anguish levels
Avidity is the creative touch to simulate multiple heads attacking you. I wouldn't mind if it was a higher Avidity !
Yel isn't hard enough we should add
Every time yel attacks it applies 3 random statuses it's heads could give, give yel AOE ultima, DB, perm all^^^, collateral dmg, weaved elements passive, and the ability to summon ymirs
add Elysian balance II, base summon stats 100%, redline, battalions III, immunity to all elements besides dragon, and immunity to all status effects in game including stasis and doom, bastille, second chance
More base HP like 30 mil seems fair, passive 5% hp regen, and make it's base magic stat a little higher

Zelbeghen will also have 7 heads - if you want a guaranteed ornate drop, you must be in the boss floor of 7 towers at the same time

But I honestly did have a lot of fun setting an extreme upper bound of whats possible as a 200AL heretic with a lot of resources for dungeons/towers at the same time maintaining a busy work schedule and keeping meaningful and loving relationships with ones that are closed to them.
Congrats on the crazy grindset. Seeing players achieve crazy feats like this is what keeps me motivated to continue improving

I was thoroughly bitter at the event grind earlier in this topic when I said things about that kill count, but I'm honestly impressed that such a kill count is even possible within this event window... And without putting your life on hold for 3 weeks.

With Wyrmhunt over now, im struggling to get myself to do the yil towers. The FOMO is insane, the grind is insane, im severely burnt out and i only played like 40 hours over the entire wyrmhunt.
This was truly the worst i ever felt about orna, surpassing anguish 2.0 at release because anguish was a choice, this equip is too good to be called choice.
Please, NF, i dont like the trend since we got the anguish rework that suddenly everything is envisioned 10 times grindier. It was fun before, but please stop with that crap, its not fun, artificial difficulty and timewaste is never a great deal in any video game, else i would play a mobile game endless grinder with energy and all that has money in mind, not fun.

Yes, was a cool, fresh content! And for me, HoA started to become a bit boring, when grinding was only about upgrading from 190 to 195. Now in Orna, I could grind everything from the scratch, which is way more fun. So please, don't make every new item too easily accessible (there will always be a 2nd/3rd try) 🫣
Grind wasnt even that bad imo. Don't need to guarantee every ornate every events first run

But still: I always strongly prefer 170 ornate to 169 legendary (mine is 172 btw 😂 ). Ornate is ornate, even if low ornate. Higher number: something to aim for in the 2nd event 😄

Sure. So long as NF and the community can see the obvious pain points, there's no issue.
I said it before and I'll say it again: when the extension poll ended at 70% positive, it should have been seen a major warning sign. If the event was truly a hit, there would have been barely anyone saying no to extending one of the most desired events in this entire game.
The fact that almost a third were already burnt out ~2 weeks in was troubling.
I wouldn't say I'm in as bad a state as Rhayvenn, but I was burnt on dragon towers so badly that I basically only started using keys again yesterday after the first 2 weeks.

I know this isn’t directly related to the thread but since excessive grind was a pain point for wyrmhunt I thought I’d bring this up early. I know NF prefers to open events with higher crafting costs and then adjust as necessary, but having to farm 4500 event items to get 100 shots at the new boss is bound to bring about the exact same complaints we saw with wyrmhunt

Overall yes, the battles are hard but kinda copy-paste horde dungeons, the final battle is fun AND challenging, the only annoyance is the presence of status debuff that can cancel a turn in chests.
I found myself trying multiple builds to seek the best balance between clear speed and safety, with some Anguish
As much as I've complained about aspects of the event towers, the old saying "necessity is the mother of invention" very much applies to that content. I was forced to optimize in ways I haven't tried before, and this sort of challenge can definitely work if it doesn't have looming time constraints.
Except mine, because mine were in the single digits 🥲
Nobody ever partys in this game cause its slow, and it only benefits alt users really...

I wish it was just horde dungeons but it was horde dungeons with tons of extra menuing which ruined it for me and actually gave me burnout for orna and specifically towers
I only pressed yes because of the Gear, and i hoped a week more would give me a second shot after the burnout.
I didn't press yes because i had fun, and i dont think much people did...
The amount of keys i let expiere out of sheer lack of willpower was greater then the ones i actually cleared...

I hear you. I've been running my remaining keys on torment 1 and it made me realize that dislike of this event is directly dependent on if you can aoe Bashe.
I'm Al50 and I have a fairly well optimized tower setup outside of godly amities, but I can only one tap Bashe at torment 1 with berserk and mag+ chest buffs. That is absurd.
But if you are in the 3 digit AL range or have godly amities, this content gets turned into mowing grass.

Im an AL104 deity and even i struggle with bashee, but what makes me hate is just, its the worst version and part of a tower. Ends at the floor where you usually start killing things, everything is severely HP bloated, the chest are traps that can kill you at any time without you beeing able to do ANYTHING against it. Adding to that, you have pretty weird buffs in the chest, and the usual T.X↑↑ are missing, and replaced with zerk, which i will never get, cause it just makes fighting yil an even bigger nightmare.
And then, if you look away from all of this, you end at an endboss that is just spamming +1,4 mil ward with like 50% chance and sometimes randomly gets a few turns and can kill you seldomly if he feels like it.
Overall, its dreadful. I like the dungeons, i like the IDEA of a Dragon tower, but the execution was very much on the weak side from all aspects, and not thought enough.
Already seeing that riftfall keys are asking for a potentially even more insane grind, im genuenly thinking about not caring about my 5 years of playing the game and just doing something else with my life.
Direction Orna is taking is weird and uncanny and i dont understand why its supposed to be miserable for everybody all of a sudden.
Almost everybody is burnt out from wyrmhunt from the people who defended it at first.
And now seeing riftfall, im just scared. My faith in a fun experience for future events took a pretty heavy hit.
Overall, focussing on territorys rn and hoping this mindset will go back into the nether realm and the weird P2W grind games were it belongs.
Its been months and we still dont have a universal anguish currency to convert tokens to to buy things, while enough ppl complain about the rotation beeing obnoxious.

I think its important to not speak in absolutes here. I understand if there are criticisms but I don't think its correct to say *everyone *is burned out or that this is bad design. I thoroughly enjoyed the event and am continuing to enjoy working through the rest of my keys, while also doing my normal towers.
When I hear a lot of the criticism, I wonder if it comes from people who already were not fans of towers. Comments like :**"I wish it was just horde dungeons but it was horde dungeons with tons of extra menuing which ruined it for me and actually gave me burnout for orna and specifically towers*" How is the level of menuing any different from normal towers? These towers are very manageable with proper setup and gear, even with the maluses. I don't think a chest can kill you at anytime without being able to do anything. Starting ward turns? Drakes blood? If losing turn 1 is a instant loss for you I think its time to rethink how you should be approaching this content. This was some of the first content in a long time that required me to regear, in multiple separate ways, for the circumstances it provided. That to me is indicative of good design.

Regarding Riftfall, I'm happy to wait and see how hard it is to grind and how lucrative it is. If there is an economic incentive to run party play, I think that is really neat. Theres been a push away from party play for players who can solo everything and it would be cool to get back to that. I understand alt players may obtain some advantage here, but I think in current iteration of Orna there is a lot of ways to play in a very efficient manner without alts, and many high-end players do. I think its time we stop bludgeoning ideas that support party play because some players may obtain an advantage from alting.
From the video, it seems like the dungeon is almost entirely event mobs, which could be a really nice source of melancholy proofs in addition to the boss loot.
There is no intention for Riftfall to be as grindy, and im not sure a preview video is enough to assert that it currently is
Yeah, the dungeon is great for melancholy. Fragments will also drop within (unlike Yel tower), so it is closer to self sustaining
New event seemingly target beo/deity/summoners gears. A little bit for realm and a little bit for heretic. But none of it for warriors. 🥲
The dungeon targets the classes that did not already have gear in Riftfall
new mechanic (ig substituting in mobs after death?) looks sick, will they
- count towards codex
- have drops of their own
- when the backups arrive, will it be the next guy's turn (the next highest fs in party after the first guy kills everything)
or is this just info the players will find out when the event arrives

Tbh, yes. The special key tech feels a lot better than the event where you need to find a specific dungeon (looking at you phoenix). It also opens for special twist on the tower/dungeon.
