#Realmshifter Corvus's Compounding Complaints

I'm reviving this discussion after it ended up being dropped from the scope of the last balance patch.
-# In the spirit of the Dorado Dilemma I've made it alliterate.

Realmshifter Corvus is a neat concept that in practice ends up being worse than Base Realmshifter in nearly every regard.

Realmshifter Corvus gets the following over Base Realmshifter:

  • Critical Chain, granting -10% crit damage but allowing to chain up to +100% crit damage
    • Due to crit bonuses being multiplicative, this means chaining actually only goes to +80% damage
    • The first hit does -10% damage compared to base RS, the second -1%, the third +8%, etc.
  • +86 base dexterity

This is what RS Corvus loses compared to base RS to gain Crit Chain and 86 dexterity:

  • Holy & Dark Immunity
  • Recharge
  • Saboteur II
    • Grants increased ward damage and chance to cause t. Def Down & t. Def dd
  • Realm's Light
    • Grants +20% View Distance and a chance to cause Blind
  • 1053 base HP
  • 76 base mana
  • 564 base ward
  • 194 base attack

During that last beta, Odie considered adding Critical Poise to RS Corvus in exchange for Avidity, but from looking at the list of tradeoffs between base RS and Corvus I think it's fair to say that RS Corvus already gives up quite enough in exchange for hardly anything in return. Many people I've talked to in various Realmshifter chats don't realize that while Critical Chain is cool, the end result is that RS Corvus still ends up worse than Base RS almost anywhere you'd want to use chaining and the damage boost you get from critical chain is a fair bit worse that it seems from the initial description.

Very great summary! I agree that corvus gives up a ton over base rs. It would be great to see this little guy get a bit more love. Although the realmshift update has smoothed over some issues woth the class

#

In place of crits have buff ups last longer, could crits increase the chance of temp buffs to occur? Scalled of course for 1, 2, and 3 ups

#

Realmshift breaks the crit chain ¯_(ツ)_/¯

frosty lily
#

No it doesnt

viral cloud
#

It doesn't? Interesting, I didn't know about that extra feature

I don't think it really solves any problems but it's neat

Yeah just posted for the future lol

#

I think it is worth noting a win when/if it gets one

Changes I would like to see:
-No penalty on crits for chain
-Add Realm's Light, very small combat impact and that way you don't have to switch to one of the other two RS classes
-moderate Att boost (maybe 100 points)
-Mystic Feather II? (Up to 70% dodge rate, somewhat thematic with Corvus referring to crows, ravens, etc)
-Some rework to Crit Chain allowing it to stack faster as misses are really punitive and getting up to 10 attacks in a row takes a long time

#

I'm fine with Corvus being squishier than base and having mana problems as one of its main weaknesses, seems like an appropriate tradeoff for having such high damage potential

Glad this discussion is back. Only use corvus now as debuff caster in endless. And i have not done endless in months

Corvus used to have one thing above base, which was that it didn’t have recharge 💀

Now with sekhemet even that’s a nonissue

It actually becomes an issuemimic

#

You dont regen mana

#

I would like to see RsCorvus to become a debuffer, so it would be great for long raids, both in Defense and Offense, something like this, and with bypass immunities

Would actually be sick

Critical poise —> as long as crit the debuffs don’t fall off perhaps?

#

Idk random ifea

Anyway, Corvus now has Critical Poise. Everyone say thank you to Odie even if he forgot to announce it in the patch notes 😆

#

Nothing was removed.

quiet pelican
#

But .. it had critical poise the entire time?
How else was it used for endless and keeping all those t.buffs running?

#

Isnt critical poise and chain crits it's entire gimmick?

viral cloud
#

It was a mechanic added during the balance patch beta in exchange for avidity, but the playerbase didn't feel exchanging it for avidity was fair

#

And then it was given to Heretic Corvus instead (in exchange for something, idk what)

frosty lily
#

Yippie!

Its something

The possibilities. Went all in on crit poise and it really made corvus shine

#

as a heretic, i really enjoy juggling all the T buff with crit poise in various content, I am sure some of you will enjoy as well

That's just an endless cycle of powercreep

#

We've almost escaped out of it now that Heretics have flasks

#

The only thing left to be powercrept is Summoner and maybe some tweaks to Beo and then it can finally stop

rustic bison
#

powercreep returns with the new t10 trev staff

#

also the new perma ward on boots

#

that aside if corvus got smth like staying power it'll actually be interesting

#

encourages the chaining crit playstyle without having to zzz dc

viral cloud
#

Powercreep is natural over time of course. IMO though I prefer it happening through gear than straight raw buffs to classes

viral cloud
rustic bison
#

yeah that

#

buff dur and fade is very useful

#

esp for a class that takes hours to dc

viral cloud
#

I don't see how that has any relation to the crit chain playstyle

#

It just makes DC last like 3-4 turns instead of 2-3

rustic bison
#
  • cc sucks
viral cloud
#

There's another passive that reduces the need to DC even more

rustic bison
#

what base deity passive lmao

viral cloud
rustic bison
#

well that's pushing it

viral cloud
#

Why?

rustic bison
#

from my half an hour heretic phase critical poise actually made buffs stay on hella

#

might be too strong

I think you missed what got changed yesterday

#

That's a screenshot from the live game

rustic bison
#

wait

#

honestly good for corvus

#

well if devs added critical poise

#

ig that's it

#

probably make it an actual good sidegrade

Gilga is one of the two best classes in the game

quiet pelican
#

Im just more for buffing classes that need it instead of complaining about classes that are where the other classes want to be.

Prefer more fun for the ones who deserve it instead of less fun for the ones who have it

quiet pelican

#

I'm not really going to write an impromptu Gilga guide in my RS Corvus thread, both because I'm not familiar enough with Gilga minutia and it's not really the place for it

#

Anyway I am going to close this thread off. I was leaving it open for some discussion about Critical Poise being added, but with Poise added it honestly achieved the goal I had in mind when I created it
