#Worried about a random gecko that decided to live with me

So I recently moved, and in my lease it says I'm not allowed to have pets in my house, which is a sacrifice I had to make unfortunately. About a month ago I came home and spotted a small Mediterranean house gecko (identified by GPT, I know nothing about geckos, but I'll attach a picture). on my living room floor. I figured it'd probably live on it's own, since I have no issues with geckos I'll just leave it be. Well, the little guy had other plans. Initially it ran away as soon as we got remotely close to it but after about a week it seemed to get used to our presence and started appearing on walls and near furniture and exploring. about a week ago it became less active, I have still seen it on the floor but it stopped climbing the walls, still explored at ground level though, and judging by the insect population at our home it's still catching food.

3 days ago is where I really became concerned, it had found a corner that is decently humid and I also believe that is where a lot of bugs come into the house. It has stayed in that corner for 3 days. It does move about, but it stays within a 40x40cm area, and doesn't climb the wall. Today the cleaner came. I generally avoid handling this guy so as not to scare him, but I felt in this case he needed to be moved to high ground for his safety. I tried to gently "pet" him with cloth, which I figured would make him run and hide, and he reacted, but he didn't run. He usually runs when I get close so that was a red flag. Having not much other choice I tried to gently push a piece of paper beneath him, he reacted to that and generally seemed only slightly annoyed but got on the paper. When I started moving the paper though he got off it and returned to his corner. Defeated, I decided the cleaner would avoid this corner this time. But i'm still concerend about it's health. It is a small one, about 6-7cm incl. tail. should I be worried? Please give me some advice but understand if it needs a vet I'll have to give it away.

Uhm nta its kinda hard to exactly help without knowing what kind of gecko it is, but if you can probably try to release it outside since wild animals are generally best left wild! But there isn't much you can do really at least not to my knowledge

Here's a picture of it.
I just wanna clarify it's not like I'm keeping it here, it has an opening to leave, and can do so at will, we keep our distance from it. And as mentioned when we try to move it it is quite insistent on returning to that spot, which I guess is a good thing. I'm just suprised at it's lack of fear, but I have no frame of reference. I will wait for a few more people to react and we'll see what they say. For now we're just keeping our distance (hence the 10x zoom on this picture)

So a native little friend!
Nta but I believe the best thing to do is leave him alone. Maybe leave out some shallow dishes of water if you believe he isn’t getting enough fluids. You can also leave out a humid hide for him if you’d like

#

If he does turn out to be sick it’s best to let nature be nature if you don’t have to means to take him to a wildlife vet. As sad as that is.

I mean I can maybe take him but then I have to give him away to someone else to take care of. I just wanna know if it is...

#

I have a friend who might take him in that case

Unfortunately we can’t diagnose over the internet even if we were qualified vets GroupHug
