I’m going to buy a bigger enclosure and don’t know if a 40 gallon tank is big enough for my male gecko, he’s around 10 inches. I also don’t know what type of substrate would be good for the tank I usually do paper towels but want to switch it up and don’t know what would be a good heat source for the Substrate to get through the heat pad.

ADD— Also if I was to use some sort of sand like desert sand would I have to clean it? N how would I go about that

unfortunately heatpads do not work through loose substrate, which is one of the reasons overhead heating is recommended

we also do not recommend using sand on its own

40 gallons is the thriving minimum and most geckos do just fine with 40. Bigger is always better if you have the space and money. I know my Leo would use a bigger enclosure but it’s just not in the budget/space.

I suggest taking a look at the !guide for substrate and heating options. I’ll also drop some info graphics for you about these topics
