#Pet insurance?

Given the constant risk of needing to take a leo to the vet for any number of things, I was considering pet insurance.

Does it work similarly to health insurance? Where there could be a deductible or a co pay? Does anyone else have pet insurance for their leos? Is it worth it? Or should I be looking at something closer to a Care Credit Card?

The only company that offers pet insurance for exotic pets is Nationwide.

Pet insurance is different from human health insurance. In human health insurance, you pay your copay at the doctor’s office. The doctor’s office carries out billing and submission to the insurance company, then you receive your remaining balance at a later date.

In pet insurance, you pay the entire veterinary bill up front. You then submit the invoice, and the insurance company reimburses you a percentage of the bill(70, 80, 90% after deductible, depending on your plan).

It is most useful to use pet insurance alongside either a savings account designated for your pets, or a carecredit card. That can help you pay the up front balance in the office. You can use your reimbursement from insurance to pay back your balance or replenish the savings account

Thank you! I’ll give them a call to see how much it would end up costing me for that, then I’ll look into the care credit side to pay for any vet bills

To be honest, the vast majority of my Leo's have never needed a vet, and most that have came into my life with me aware they would be problem children (rehomes). I personally just have a padded out savings account with high interest.

My dogs and cats however, I would never leave uninsured even for a day as they are far more likely to get sick or injured than a Leo due to being in a much less controlled environment

i also believe nationwide (the exotic insurance company in the states) got rid of exotic wellness plans and just has accident/illness so even if you wanted to use it for frequent checkups, you couldnt
