#Dimming thermostat isn’t seeming to work

I’ve been trying to do research on this but recently as of yesterday, I’ve noticed that my thermostat that I set to on 88° has been reaching higher temperatures as the probe is reading to sometimes up to 95°. This has led to the hot side being up near 100° when I use my temperature gun and no matter how low I turn the setting, it just seems to not go down in temperature.

The thermostat I’m using is an exoterra and the bulb I am using is an Arcadia DHP with 50W.

I’ve used this same setup for months and it has always worked so I’m confused on why, all of a sudden, it just goes past the needed
temperature and doesn’t come back down. Only thing I can think of is maybe the black paper I put on the outside of the tank is keeping the warmth too much inside so the dimming is not helping at all.

can you show how it's all plugged in?

Hopefully this is enough to show. For context, the white power strip has the UVB, the thermostat, and the DHP connected. The beige/off-white power strip has just my camera that I use for the enclosure

#

Well I have the DHP unplugged rn because the temp is just going to exceed my set temperature

can you try shoving the dhp dome plug really hard into the thermostat?

#

like as far as itll go

I’m so slow. I just moved his tank not too long ago and looking at the plugs, the DHP wasn’t fully connected. I just plugged it so hopefully it dims correctly

#

Thanks, I was so confused why it just stopped regulating the DHP

no worries, it's actually a common mistake for the exoterra thermostats. the plugs are super hard to get into place

Yeah it for sure feels like it has such a loose outlet to connect the DHP to
