I have been putting off creating my bioactive enclosure for my leo for some time. I believe I have everything but I am worried that I will mess something up. I have my soil mixture, cuc cultivated (powdered orange isopods & springtails), and plants. I also have my plant grow lights ready. I also have leaf liter, moss, southern palm bark, and cork pieces. I think my biggest concern is setting everything up correctly. I have read the piece on bioactive enclosures through the command, but I'm looking for more of a step by step. I tried looking on YouTube but I don't ever know what to trust. Some say that you mix the leaf litter and moss together and some say you put it on top. I also am not sure if I need a drainage layer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can mix some leaf litter into the substrate sure! Can also put it on top C: that way isopods have stuff to choose from. I've seen both. Drainage layers aren't particularly needed with arid setups either. as for the moss and bark :o i'm not sure if like. That would make it too tropical think i haven't really heard of those added in arid setups

you want a good draining soil with succulents / plants that typically go into arid setups so thonk

Okay. Sounds good. I'm just going to give it a go in the next couple of days and see how it goes. mild_panic

I personally like adding moss to my leo sub bc i find mine dries out quickly and it helps keep a bit of moisture. From what i can tell you can just use palm bark like leaf litter, so that shouldn't be an issue.
