Why is my gecko pretty calm when it’s only me and him, but tries to run off my hand and even screamed at me once when my parents (people he’s not familiar with) were present? Can he recognize me and know I’m his owner? Thanks!

Hes probably just not used to that crowded of an environment, or that many sounds /smells. Take time to slowly Introduce people one by one, this way it reduces any stress if that’s an issue. 
My gecko also gets freaked out if I’m handling her and there’s more than two or so people in the room
