Top soil is like dirt with fertilizer (sometimes), substrate is what goes at the bottom of your enclosure. Nqa Is that what you meant?

Topsoil is a substrate component. (Substrate is just something in which things can grow and stuff)

Topsoil fully is actually just well the upper most layer of soil. Commercially bagged topsoils come either fertilized or organic meaning it’s just dirt. For DIY substrate mixes you want organic topsoil meaning no additives like fertilizer or manure
