#top soil and substrate

Top soil is like dirt with fertilizer (sometimes), substrate is what goes at the bottom of your enclosure. Nqa Is that what you meant?

I’m probably going to use earth mix arid
Do I have to use a top soil? How do I know if it’s good for the gecko
Just make sure the top soil has no added fertilizer.

Topsoil is a substrate component. (Substrate is just something in which things can grow and stuff)
Topsoil fully is actually just well the upper most layer of soil. Commercially bagged topsoils come either fertilized or organic meaning it’s just dirt. For DIY substrate mixes you want organic topsoil meaning no additives like fertilizer or manure
Did you mean premade substrates (like earthmix arid) for your question?
@wicked swallow
If you’re using earthmix arid no
The only time you would need topsoil is if you’re doing it yourself or if you went with like. Terra Sahara c:
