What on Earth is Grit?
When anyone says Grit, we're referring to "Legacy of Grit".
This is a beginner event that unlocks right near the start of your journey, and lasts 60 Days.
What does it do? How does it work?
This allows you to swap the "Legacies" of two heroes, what this means is all copies and investments swap over.
For example, if I have 6 Elite copies of Shemira (what you can get for free) and I swap it with my Scarlet that has 1 Elite copy, I'll have 6 Elite Scarlet copies and 1 Elite Shemira copy after the swap.
With investments, for example a Mythic Shemira that has Signature Item lvl 20 with 2 more Elite copies swapping to a Scarlet with a single Elite copy, I'll end up with a Mythic Scarlet that has Sig Item 20, and 2 more Elite Scarlets.
Swapping between factions after ascending your grit hero will swap the fodder along with it, that's why I don't recommend ascending Shemira before Grit swapping her, you're throwing away Graveborn fodder to a different faction.
