You ascend fodders to L+ and level them to 160 when you start in the early game.
What is fodder? Fodders are the legendary-tier heroes that only has 3 skills (To see them go to the Heroes tab --> Portraits --> Scroll down), and can only be ascended to L+. The other heroes are A-tier heroes, that has 4 skills and can be ascended further than L+.
The ideal fodders you want are: Mirael & Hogan, Golus, Arden & Silvinia.
You do this to see what hero you get the most copies of to eliminate RNG.
This is not to make the mistake of making many heroes L without the copies for L+, essentially just wasting fodder.
Remember, 1 Ascended hero > 40 L heroes. L doesn't give anything worth compared to Ascending a hero fully.
When you're level capped at 160, you take the L+ fodder you build and feed it into an A-tier hero, so you can level to 180.
This is because you need an L+ fodder to take an L+ Ascended tier to M. You need 8/8 copies of a hero to ascend them to A (4 to L+ and 4 to A = 8).
