The hint from dolly also said that bards sang about the sorrows of the dead princess, so I think it could probably be confirmed that she might have been a part of a major lightbearer royal family like thoran’s

Quick question, is there any explanation as to why almost all Graveborn heroes (if not all) are relentless murderers?

I can't help but look at their backstories and then compare it to their voice lines/abilities, and it feels inconsistent (though, with the addition of voice pack swapping, seems the lines the heroes say are drastically different between languages)

Shemira, as the most basic example, goes from "deeply emotional mother mourning her child's death" to "Corpsemaker" with abiities revolving around using tortured souls to kill.

Is it just mistranslation? Or do Graveborn automatically turn into murder machines when they become undead?

there is no concrete evidence or explanation for this, but there are some instances of graveborn to go evil - sometimes polar opposite their previous character - when they transform from living to undead. Case in point: Thoran, Ferael, and maybe Baden(?) Thoran is a good king that turned on his beliefs when changed, Ferael killed the one he loved instantly, and Baden killed the Necromancer that resurrected him, thus resulting the lick

but as I said, these are not concrete, since Thoran and Ferael are both betrayed, while Baden seems to hold a good moral compass regardless of death.

so they could turn murderous because of his influence

baden might have a strong enough will to resist, similar to fawkes resisting mehira

also they seem to not be able to feel the majority of good human emotions and appear not to have the normal anti-murder inhibitions

i think that both the necromancers that ressurect and quaedam himself have influence over graveborn, so shemira

niru is directly under quaedam, so if both quaedam and niru have influence over shemira, it makes sense that she would definitely have changed drastically

My theory involves the source of the graveborn's reanimation. They seem to draw on corrupted metaphysical energies, based of of their backstory and abilities. And most of them seem to have corrupt forms of their personality traits in life. The flow of corrupt energy corrupts them. As a over manipulative overlord like Quaedam who seems to value these negative traits you get a faction that has strong tendencies towards them.

So I checked the origin of the graveborn, and it answered some questions, but left me confused on others

Most of the Graveborn heroes we have show a will of their own, even if it is full of malice and hate. Isabella has a Japanese voice line which says "Sister, I'll protect you", Daimon acts lost, confused, and confides in/is protective of Stitchy, Ferael makes lots of comments about his own beauty, etc. That being said, even someone who seemingly "owes no allegiance to any faction" (Oden) apparently has been left roaming the rebuild Academy of Night solely for "souls to feed his only master", which seems pretty contradictory given the sentence prior to it

The blurb on the "Origins of the Graveborn" page seems to denote that the GB have no will of their own, and yet specific GB's like Isabella and Daimon certainly do show a rather strong will, specifically, to protect. There's also their interactions in the Whale Inn, where pretty much every Graveborn shows some sort of unique, often-solemn emotion, like Shemira thanking the player and wishing to be left alone, Isabella feeling sad that Silvina can't be there, Grezhul wondering if he can be with Thoran, etc.

Of course, Baden seems pretty unique in that he was forcefully reanimated, and that he still has his very strong morals keeping his former soul alive, albeit trapped, within his reanimated body; I reckon if he were to get rid of the lich, he would be a very unique GB who truly has no allegiance to Quaedam

Aside from the question of whether the will of the individual Graveborn is genuine, I'm wondering whether Quaedam's death would mean just the end of his control over the Graveborn, or the end of all Graveborn, forever. He spread his magic's method to the necromancers, sure, but in the end of the day, for someone to become Graveborn, they would have to make a pact with him while on the brink of death. If he died, it would 100% mean that Graveborn could no longer be made, but would it also mean they would all die again, or just that they'd no longer be in his control?

It's weird, but Baden's control wasn't really ever by Quaedam, just the necromancer. When the necromancer died, and if I'm to take what's written at face value, it seems Baden was actually genuinely free for a little while; at least, until the necromancer came back as a Lich

Izold was healed and saved by Divine Light, though, he never initially died (of course until he did)

Unless, again, I'm not to take the stories in the game at face value

He was on the brink of death then healed by Lightbearer clerics, and when he felt a fool, he went to Bantus to have one last fight, but instead accepted Quaedam's control for his former glory

I don't know if Daimon was seen by Quaedam and if he accepted his control out of fear (given that he was a real young kid, I doubt he even knew what it would mean IF he accepted it), but in Baden's case, the whole reason he was able to undo his control was because of his strong will even while a Graveborn, which goes DIRECTLY against what typically should happen to a Graveborn (complete loss of will)

Those who accept their fate can be able to be normal, with the sense of death in their minds, and the others who try to resist control are forced to become a monster of themselves
