But it basically broke down how the factions worked and for some reason mentioned origins.
Apparently dura made humans and then taught them magic. In the pursuit of immortality via magical means, apparently creating human- animal chimeras made sense? And then the results of the magical experiments went off and became their own self sustaining species. These new creatures had different opinions of humans- one group hated humans and wanted to destroy them, while the other wanted a more peaceful relationship. The two groups separated woth the more aggressive group becoming the maulers and the passive group becoming the wilders.

The last paragraph was more heartfelt. An apology for not communicating often, a promise to keep the letters coming as long as he can afford to buy paper, and a request for a visit at the local rickety cart station next week to make it up to me. A single tear fell as I finished reading his message.
I put the letter back in the envelope. Bedtime can wait. The least I could do is be courteous enough to write one back.

Caelum's story on how he became a celestial is pretty long, so I'll summarise it.
Born from different faction parents, one mauler and one wilder. His soft nature and frail body made him a mockery among the maulers, not to mention being half wilder, so he took to crafting tools like lanterns and matchsticks. Eventually, sick of the oppression, he tried to find a place where he would belong.
The lightbearers were already suspicious of him due to having mauler origins, and his skills lack the technologythey have.
The wilders didn't like his fire craft, since they live in a forest which is pretty suspectible to burning.
He eventually settled with the graveborn, where he would get the occasional customer, alongside two regulars, who were sisters. One bought matchsticks for her missions, and one bought lanterns for reading. However, they too disappeared one cold winter day, and left him without money. He died from the cold, huddled up in a corner.
One of Dura's servants took pity on him and gave him an offer to either pass to the good side of the afterlife like normal, or work for the celestials for 33 years so he can finally do what he wishes on the earth during that time, and be rejudged after the time is up. Should he turn to evil during that time, he'd go to the bad side of the afterlife afterwards.
Caelum took the latter option, and armed with the abilities of a new, but entry level celestial, he went to help people in need: for the first time, he could do that, instead of being the one in need himself.
I wrote his abilities to focus on buffing, healing and resurrecting.
Oh, and I guess it should be no surprise that I'm a big fan of The Little Match Girl, The blub blub boi is based off that story.
