going off of Fawkes' lore, he has this parasite that pulls on his mind, but Fawkes has mastered the parasite and has added its power to his arsenal in demon hunting. Thus, his mastery in controlling his own mind from the parasite has given him great advantage against mind manipulation magic such as Mehira's. Plus, Mehira is a demon right ? adds more to Fawkes since he's a demon hunter
