look, the fantasy genre is such a circle of backwashed ideas you can practically still clone tolken from most pieces rn

i'm tired, pls take me back to the sweet warm arms of jim Henson's fantasy worlds unu

tho tbh a lot of the things that most stuff gets accused of copying isn't even the original instance of it in the first place if that makes sense?

since most fantasy stories are inspired by the ye-olde bard tales of ancient times and such a lot of genre fiction is going to hit the same aesthetic notes ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Everything has its inspiration, nothing has ever been created without inspiration. I think a lot of the deigns Lilith made are pretty unique, while some designs have similarities with other franchises (Mehira and the twins). But in the end it's all just business and marketing. Nothing will be 100 % original, but nothing is stolen either. AFK Arena just seems to go after a lot of stereotypical fantasy characters (Eironn for example). And imo, that's what makes the game so great, because it gives you a real good fantasy like vibe, and they even managed to be somewhat original in some ways, with little hints and references to ancient stories and possibly other fantasy inspired games. If Lilith really wanted to copy other games they wouldn't have hired such a unique artist and just your average almost 3d looking art-freelancer, + on top of that completely copied every detail of existing designs. So far is Mehira the heaviest copycat, but that shouldn't mean Lilith is stealing everything, especially since it's hard to come up with something super new.

i agree, and tbh i feel like afk arena is a step in the right direction as far as big budget mobile games go

it's a lot more original in presentation than most other games of it's kind, at least from what I've seen

(also it's interesting to see a non western take on classic fantasy tropes)
