Nice!
I won’t be able to do Thursday, so Wednesday would be best for me:))
Ok let’s do Wednesday then if it works for everyone
Sorry, think I won't be joining since I don't have proper hiking shoes (and was looking more for a lighter hike)
Lol tbh I’m going in vans
On the plane rn but I’d be down to do this.. have to check hour far it is from me when i land
Yeah the more the merrier
theyre saying its slippery as fuck dont die 🥲
You don’t need them for oyama
It’s an easy although fairly long hike
I’m a real one dw
It’s based on elevation most likely
More like cardio difficulty rather than terrain and footing
But also sometimes all trails just overrates hikes lol
Afonso are you coming to this or you’re just in the chat 🤔
im interested but it seems daunting
The hard part is gonna be waking up early 😆
and wednesday im returning on the 5am train so i dont think it will work for me
Aww dang
It’s tall
So yeah it takes quite an effort to get up
But then it’s not off-road or anything, you can go in high heels if you want
Got it, thanks for the info. Were you one of Uncle's friends in Tokyo?
What's transport like getting out there? Would one need a car?
Yes!
No, just a train is enough
It’s really a weekend hike
Nothing too heavy. It’s just really tall and takes and effort to climb that much.
There is one bus I think but most of it is by train
I just did Oyama 2 weeks ago when I was in tokyo! If you guys need any help/any questions feel free to ask me!
bonus is that there's an afuri ramen outlet at the cable car stop; makes for a very yummy reward at the end of the hike
also yea, you take a train from tokyo to isehara station, then take the local bus to and fro the base of the mountain. Be sure to note down the bus timings back to isehara station though, i think its like every odd 20-30 mins
nice nice, wish we could've met last year. I'm just about to head out for late lunch around Tawaramachi/Asakusa
That’s too late for lunch and too early for dinner. But maybe you find something! There’s a nice new curry resto on the street with tawaramachi
Probably still closed before dinner though
I love curry. Will look out for it!
https://maps.app.goo.gl/BtwZEsW4PZhw3Kzx8
Ended up at this little spot instead
Are you guys gonna take bus or train cuz it’s abt 2 hours for me by train
Full journey for me from Asakusabashi-Eki is just over 2hrs
I think it’s like 40 mins on the bus
I’m taking the train to isehara station, where are you leaving from?
Senso ji, Asakusa
BTW, be prepared to have to wait an extra bus when you head back from Mt. Oyama base -> Isehara station. It's getting more and more crowded as the month goes on, so there's a chance the bus queue might be long. My bus was almost packed to the brim at the station at around 3.30pm
Aww man that is a little annoying to deal with :’(
well the next bus will come in like 20-30 mins so its not the worst thing in the world, but you might just have to wait around a lil longer
Oh I’m nearby! We can go together meeting at asakusa station if you like
You can buy bus tickets there or can you also use ic card?
btw if you want my advice, i highly recommend climbing right from the bottom instead of taking the cable car halfway up. Ultimately up to you guys, but it's a little more fun that way and you get to pass by another quieter temple before hitting the main cable-car stop area
ic card is fine! no need to pre-book tickets, its a local bus
oh i dont think you can anyway
I would like to do the full hike but depends on the ability of people coming and how much time we have
heres the routes btw if you wanna look at it beforehand
the bus will alight you guys at oyama cable car station, where you have to climb 250-300 steps (i forgot the number) up to the actual cable car station.
at that point, you can either start your ascend there, ortake the cable car up to afurijinja station.
For me it took about 2.5-3+ hours from bottom to top, but I also stopped at the oyama-dera temple and afuri shrine shimosha for a bit of time to chill and soak in the experience
Ohhh yeah im still deciding rn cuz I don’t have hiking shoes
Don’t wanna slow you guys down
Sounds like most of it is on stable ground
Also I’m going in vans so don’t worry about it 💀
@real girder @bold escarp the views are majestic and worth the climb imo, and like what mushroom says its not the toughest in the world
but at the same time it can get a lil challenging at certain points
lemme send a vid real quick
plz
Lool
some parts do get a bit rough cause its really just climbing on rocks, but doable
but its really really fun, and i dont even hike/climb that much
very doable
That looks fun to me
it is
We need to like lock in tho
Idk who is actually coming and where we’re meeting rn
😂
put it simply almost the entire trail is walkable. Only a very small portion of the trial you'd have to use your hands for support, but there's no need to actually pull yourself or climb over anything so to say
have fun and good luck guys 👍 stay safe
I just wanna know when I’d get back cuz im actually with my family so idk what they wanna do yet
Depends when you leave
But it’ll be about 4hrs travel time +3-4hrs hiking time
Morning departure is definitely ideal, like 8am most likely
is it too late for me to join this group?
No
We’re going tomorrow morning
I’m trying to finalize details this evening so we know when to wake up and where to meet
Are you in Tokyo?
yeah staying in akasaka
Me and vro are by asakusa
Ok dope we’re all close by then
Oh wait akasaka not asakusa, not quite as close then
i left my accoms at about 7.30am i think, but i took the highway bus (and got lost but that's a different story)
i got back to shibuya at around 5.30 or 6pm
if you need a rough timeframe
I think I can get to asakusa pretty quickly from my hotel
oh yes final tip, it WILL feel cold because yknow mountains so bring a jacket/layers
you'll sweat while climbing up, but at the base and at the peak it gets quite chilly
LMAO okay its not that cold
i wore a turtleneck and a tee, along with a windbreaker and i was shivering my ass off
but once you start the climb and your body gets warm i took off the jacket
not that cold
shivering my ass off
Oh lol yeah you warm up a little
Tokyo was around 16-17 deg celcius on that day? mt ooyama was like 10 celcius when i arrived
and it gradually warmed up a lil to 11-13 iirc
Oyama gets really cold at the top
When I went there in the end of November a few years ago it was below zero, the ground was frozen dry
I think the forecast says a high of 20 tomorrow, should be a little warmer, maybe 10 or so at the top?
Want to meet at asakusa station around 8am?
Sounds good yeah
I’m going to my hotel from the airport rn
Figuring out what imma wear lol I didn’t really plan on hiking so might be a little underdressed
yolo
Actually it looks a little simpler from to leave from asakusa bashi if that works
No like I left the airport going to my hotel in asakusa
I think 7:45 is a good time to meet, that way we have a few mins to actually find each other before we get on the train
Then get on one of the trains around 8am
It will be raining tomorrow, but yes I think so
Hope the rain won’t be too bad
It seems that the rain is going to cease in the early morning
So should be good but probably no great Fuji views as in the normal days
Sorry I’ve been MIA
Still plan on joining you and are also up for doing the whole hike
Are you gonna meet us in asakusabashi
I would still prefer to be home around 17 at the latest, but I could potentially just take the cable train on the way down if it gets a bit tight on time
Wait a min checking transport from my place
It would be a bit of a detour for me
Will probably take this train:
Wanna just meet us at isehara?
Landing at isehara station around 10:08
Ah wait
If you want to be home early it would be better to make that bus
9:25ish
I’ll take a train that gets there around the same time
Worst case scenario you have to get on half an hour late
Rip
Aight I’ll see y’all tmrw
Bet
Yep
if I manage to wake up early I'll meet y'all at isehara station. don't wait for me tho there's a strong chance I'll want to sleep in tomorrow
hope you can make it! @sage gorge
Oh I see you’re up early lol
I’m just getting ready then heading to asakusabashi in a bit, will bring some snacks and drinks with me for others to share also
Make sure you go to the jr station
Idr there might be others or not lol
I’m at the a2 entrance though
I’m here

Gonna cross the street
I’m wearing a backpack and a black beanie btw, tan vest

Oh wait I found the entrance
It just want showing on Google maps for me

I am on car 6 as well
We’re in the middle of the car

Are we all on the same train in different dimensions
Just like smash bros
noborito is next stop for me
Oh shit you are in the train right after us
In car 5
Hell yeah we all gonna be there at the same time lmao
Nice!
Lol ok glad you guys all were able to find the time
Was worried cause I didn’t see anyone message in the morning
The bus leaves at 9:37, so I think we’re all gonna be there at isehara before then too
We two stops out
Next stop
We just arrived at isehara
next stop for me
I’m standing at the top of the stairs right before the gates
I got a black beanies and backpack with a tan vest on

Oh wait
I already checked out
So I’m on the other side of the gates
We here

hope you guys are having fun going up!
Okay the train is like 1 min delayed aha
If you make it on the same train let me know and I’ll find you
Just got on the train, sorry for just running away so fast
Had a great time today!
thank you for coming!
I had a lot of fun as well!
It was fun glad to meet you @sullen jackal @sage gorge @bold escarp
Please don’t forget to share pictures - no rush though, just when you get the time:))
Gotta figure out how I can share it but definitely!
if you guys were still curious about that weird kanji we saw on the bus today, it looks like it's an alternative way of writing 締
https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/〆#Japanese
If you guys wanted any of the photos from my camera I’ve uploaded them here https://drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/1rlYvZyDpDp-plr62oZ-FcQyCagb3XfOB?usp=sharing
Not edited yet but they honestly still look crazy lol
TIL!
it is fairly common in supermarkets etc, for example 〆さば
No prob, just take your time
Thanks, just looked through them - they are really great!
