If anyone is looking for karaoke, spontaneously on any given night, and don't know which franchise to pick, my friends and I always pick Maneki Neko Karaoke franchise because they allow BYOB. They require 1 drink purchase per person (few hundred yen), but it's cheaper to do that + BYOB, than pay for AYCD somewhere else.

They aren't "free" really, there are a lot of fees and extra costs that need to be paid for.

They are typically in small, dying villages and very rural areas which means a fairly small community (a pro or a con depending on your personality) in which virtually everyone only speaks Japanese.

Akiyas are also usually quite old so they may not have all the modern conveniences that people have come to enjoy. They also lack insulation. A lot of Japanese homes lack insulation, but akiyas are quite bad about it. That means they really really cold in the winters.

Since they are in very rural areas, expect bugs. Lots and lots of bugs.

and lastly, since they are rural areas, that means that it takes a good deal of time to drive to a city to get stuff you may need

I think for the 1st day, the pass is included so you can ride the ski lift. But on the 2nd day, it's up to you to decide if you want to add it. The lift is the thing you sit on that takes you high on the peak so you can go down
