now i dont remember lol..i think it was getting Gyukatsu, similar to the pic I posted
I believe thats Beef Cutlet AONA Shinjuku store..
Hey all, I’m Wes (27) from the US
I will be in Japan all of March and the first week of April. I’m into photography, nature/hiking, museums, cars, and the like (and willing to give most things a shot).
If anyone wants to grab a bite to eat, drink, or hangout that would be awesome!
Would anyone be interested in visiting the G-Can? It’s the flood control network under Tokyo. They give tours but you need someone who can speak Japanese https://www.tanaka-tokyotours.com/our-favorites/tokyo-less-visited/g-cans/
Rules of the visit A guided tour departs every hour between 10 am - 4 pm seven days a week. Reservations are necessary as only 50 people are admitted for each tour. Explanations are offered only in Japanese and for safety reasons, if you do not speak Japanese it is necessary for you to be accompanied by a Japanese speaking person. Reservations c...
This is cool when do you think you’ll go?
The best dates would be the third or the fourth because that’s when they have the tours where they let you go down the tubes.
But honestly I would do whenever works
Mmm have fun! Unfortunately I’m there the end of March.
i’m interested, are you said japanese speaking person? or do we need to find someone else
I do not speak Japanese. We would need to find someone
@wheat osprey I’m not sure if it’s because of rain or that they don’t schedule that far out, but I see nothing on the calendar after march 5th. I wouldn’t be surprised if they open up bookings rolling 1 month ahead
Oh for sure, that seems to be rule of thumb so far in Japan. No problem, if you find anything else lmk. I’m there for 24-30.
So far I’ve got plans for the 25, 26, 27th (up for debate) & 28th.
My major free time is the weekends and between the 25th-April 3rd. Currently nothing planned 😬
Tbh, I’ve got planned
March 25th:
Visit Meiji Jingu Shrine
Gotoku-ji Temple ( see if I get us some cat talisman)
March 26th
Studio Ghibli Museum
Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory
Square Enix Cafe
March 27th
Explore (maybe mt. Fuji, Nikko, or Kamakura)
March 28th
Disneysea
March 29th
Free day/ explore/ Onsen
🤷🏼♀️ it’s not as productive as I wanted but time is limited.
i leave the 7th so i’d be down for something earlier in the month, but idk anyone who speaks japanese besides maybe this one person but idk how reliable he would be
I’m going into this blind. Will be with some friends in February, but I’ll be solo after Feb 25ish
I think that seems like a solid trip. Travel and food will round out your time for sure
Kurashiki seems cool for a day trip. I need to start a list of cities
I'll be in Tokyo March 28th-April 9th. Not sure how the Tokyo Dome tickets work but really hoping to catch a baseball game I see on April 4th. Working during the week overnight (USA times) but hoping to meet some people to see some live music gets some drinks over the weekend.
G can is fun but it’s so fucking far
Takes a good full day from 8-5 leaving Tokyo
You also need one person in the griup to act as tour rep afik. At least someone competent in Japanese to understand safety instructions (don’t take pictures when walking down the stairs, stay away from the edges)
I appreciate the advice
Yep, Only if you need it. Unfortunately, I had to apply for that. It was easy to get.
Yoo i'll be there around same dates
Heading to Japan -6/22nd March 🙂 - looking to meet up with some people - 29M 29M 30M from the UK if anyones about and likes going out drinking etc? 😄 were english speakers so would love someone who can speak english and japanese
tokyo 6-10th
Osaka 10-17th
Tokyo 17th -22nd
first time visiting Japan
If you like bars, there's a lot of foreigners accepted bars in Shibuya like the HUB. unless you wanted to try local japanese bars?
honestly looking to do abit of everything! take in the nightlife, culture - will drink wherever the vibe is good and people want us around
so not roppongi 😂 its getting a tad scammy around there
shibuya is a good place to start for your first time
Tantra in Minato is one of my favorite night clubs
well we were thinking of doing our first night in Shinjuku
they have all you can drink
but will happilly travel anywhere in the city 😄
thats a good place too! you cant really go wrong
you can hire a guided bar tour if you don’t have anyone in your group that speaks japnese
just be careful of Kyabakura or hostess clubs, some are okay but most will rack up a bill that you wont believe in the morning
we do not aha, will just be a trio of lost but infatuated souls aha
i'm not sure how walkable everything is?
were staying at the Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo initially
its fairly walkable and you can always take the subway
do like the sound of the all you can drink bars! - whats it like with card payments
or does everywhere prefer cash?
there's alot of places that are still cash only but most major bars/clubs will accept card
ah super excited however! not sure if ayones over in Tokyo on those dates that would be interested in meeting up for a drink! 😄
Oh dont worry, you'll make friends pretty quickly 😂
Keio Plaza Hotel? That area is very walkable.
That was the first Tokyo hotel that I stayed at so long ago as part of a tour.
You will run into a lot of salarymen too 🙂
aha amazing 😄
good stay? 😄
My info is from 2012, but yeah it was a wonderful stay
may or march? XD
Haha no worries
ah yeah i can't wait honestly - a month tomorrow i fly
Hey, so who’s down to go to gigo akihabara or hang out around the 6th? So we can make a group chat or something
I’m up to grab a beer and tag along. I’m also a first time visitor
I should be in Tokyo for all of that time
yeah awesome - im flying on the 6th sadly so will actually be arriving on the friday so will be in tokyo for the weekend!
but keen to meet up with anyone whos up for a beer 7-10th
realised i don't actually land untill 10am the 7th sadly aha
I’ll be there the entire month!
amazing, yeah we will be coming back into tokyo the week after too - you in tokyo the entire time? 🙂 - were all about 30 if your chill hanging with a bunch of middle aged dudes 😉 (depends how old you are when i say middle aged ahah)
I’m down, I’ll be there 5th to 11th
I think most people wanted to go the 7th anyways
yeah the weekend party ;D
lol I turned 27 recently, we’re not far apart
lol I’m 23
I should be free on 7th
@turbid swallow are you down?
23 is a pretty similar stage of life
True
A few of us were looking at meeting up in Osaka on the 15th I believe
I'm also from the UK
i'll be in Osaka then!
so keen too!
Me too 👀
I just have the sumo experience at 6 pm but it should be over in 1/1.30 h
You’re a sumo wrestler?
were pretty crazy when it comes to partying so were down to do anything nightlife wife.
Nono
lmfao
Lets do drinks in Osaka on the 15th then. I'm likely to be at a football match during the day and then coming back into Osaka in the evening
That’s pretty dope. It looks like WWE but for sumo
Are you going to try to get on the floor?
Dunno if I can
I think it's random
Got nothing planned on the 6th for now
Actually wait nvm I got ginza + teamlabs with a grp so it depends when
3rd or 10th are my free days in Tokyo
Im down!
I’ve been wanting to go to the gigo arcade, we could grab some dinner after
mhmm I might come, I just need to check for a place to stay near tokyo if we doing this
Does anyone want to go to a Baseball game at PayPay dome in Fukuoka on Friday the 14th? I'm about to buy tickets rn
Ok I couldn't manage to figure out how to register for the acct to buy the tickets on my lunch break so I will probably buy later tonight or tomorrow, so invitation still open
I'm not a sports ball guy or anything anyways but I've heard their games are really fun and seen enough videos to want to go haha
Id be down
ohh btw do you have a specific date for fujiq?
I didnt set a specific one
I'd love to do this - but don't think i'll be going down to Fukuoka sadly
totally would if I were down that far in Japan
Speaking of baseball, I'm 100% catching a game while in Tokyo. It'll be preseason still (and doubt I'm going to try for the Cub-Dodgers series)
I'm so sad that the tokyo games are more towards the end of March/Early april, I wouldve loved to see the Giants play
Hiii everyone I'm 27F from USA, I will be in Kyoto from Feb 27-Mar 3, and Tokyo from Mar 7-11. I'm looking to meet up with other girls/guys down for day trips to Nara/Uji, or Nikko/Mt Fuji! I'd also love to hang out if we're in the same area at the same time
Hey, I’m Wes also 27. I’ll be in Tokyo then. Totally down to do some hiking or day trips
Are you thinking of hiking to the top of Mt Fuji? I haven’t looked it up on alltrail yet but I hear it’s a farther hike than expected.
Just checked, I think mt Fuji opens in July :(
7 th a few of us were talking about evening drinks but 100% keen to sort some day trips with people if it all lines up with what everyone wants to do 🙂
I will be in Tokyo on 26-31 of March and than going to Kyoto. Will be there from 1 to 5 April. It would be nice to meet someone and visit some places. 27 y.o. I am living in Germany, but I am not German
Oh shit I'm probably too late but I'm down if you haven't booked tickets already. Swear I looked for baseball in Fukuoka while I was there but didn't find any!
We could do that yakiniku place after
Not too late, still haven’t figured it out yet
From what I understand you gave to make an account on this site to buy tickets, but their system wasn’t happy with my phone number so I’m stuck on that part lol. I’ll have the time tomorrow to look into it more or ask ppl in here and figure it out
I’ll take a look at that restaurant’s hours again, I believe the baseball games start at 6 so may not be able to swing both in the same evening
I think you'll probably need a Japanese number
Heya, I'm solo travelling during that time, looking for some connections 👋🏻 (29, m, 🇩🇪 )
Maybe some yakiniku after a boat race day in that case?
To my consistent demise im an idiot and failed to realize I actually land 2 days after my takeoff date and not 1 so now I have 1 less day in Fukuoka than I thought. This is my tentative plan for the 14th right now; I think boat racing fits right in there after lunch and then yakiniku that night if you’re down
I purposefully overestimated the time it would take to bike around shikanoshima island too to give myself a buffer in case I wanted to spend time sightseeing. Which you’re welcome to join me in that too btw
It’s like 2500 yen for the bike rental and 600 for the ferry
Bro im listening to trash taste podcast with mudan and theyre talking about what iteneraries theyd have for 1 week visitors 😭😭
I realize i have no plan or nothing other than a place to stay
I wanna climb fuji tho
Wow how do you manage to stay on track if something takes longer than expected?
^^
nothing is worth more than your peace of mind
Make sure its in season
If I wake up too late or spend too long somewhere I kinda just push it all back and do whatever im feeling the most. For myself it’s easier to overplan and miss a couple things than to have loose plans then get adhd frozen not being able to decide what I want haha
But thats also why I give myself extra time for transit and activities. The ride from the Overlook to Shikaumi is like 1km no way it would take an hour haha, but that buffer will make up for extra time I may decide to spend at any of the spots on the way
What do you want to do the most? I’ve been building my trip around a few events/locations and I kinda fill in the space between
I have highlights I want to hit and maybe 2-3 must-dos, that's it. I'm wanting more to explore the areas and just see what comes up, whatever feels right that day. The over-planned trips just aren't my thing.
This is kinda what I did too, I have a bunch of things on my list tho. I divided them by day so hopefully I get to do most if not all.
Some days only have 3 places to visit and other have like 9 but they’re close to each other

Im in
1034507131136786442
Drinking
i want to enjoy shopping and fun activities japan has to offer
batting or karaoke~
Same!
Idk abt drinking but im down anything else
I actually came this time for the shopping! since the dollar is stronger at the moment
Ohh nice! Anything particular in mind?
also any girls want to try a host club experience? I have a friend who can take us
vintage luxury bags 😁 the investment pieces!
When??
clothes too but Japan tends to have styles that arent the most flattering for me
I have it on my list to go thrifting and to some of the flea markets
March 5 or 6th??
I love going shopping for clothes in japan
yes! I'm thinking Shimokitazawa Flea Market
I'm def going there lol
😩 I love the styles
All the places I know of have been discovered through Instagram reels. I need to put everything in a list lol
lol same! I have so many japan tiktoks saved
I’m down!! I land the 5th
ooh then we can do the 6th?? give you some time to adjust to the timezone 😂
the last time we did host club hopping because it gets expensively scammy after the 1st hour
I would be down to tag along for any thifting/market stuff, assuming y’all are okay I’m a dude and that I would probably skip the host clubs
Wait let me check and I’ll let u know cause I had some stuff planned with other people
Same, I have no idea where to thrift so I wanna tag along
😂 im totally cool if you dont want to host club it but we should all go thrifting!
shopping crew yaya
shimokita is such a vibe
I love it, you can find really cool stuff there too
i'mm too talk for japanese clothes stores i imagine 😅
From what I can tell things are generally +1 your American size. So my US medium should be a large over there.
You might have some luck depending on the cut. Apparently oversized cuts aren’t uncommon
Idk your odds on vintage oversized though
if you’ve never been to a Uniclo, you should make time for it. Like half my clothing is Uniqlo. My plan is to go and confirm sizes (and hopefully find some cool stuff)
Im 6”1 (185cm) and didn’t have issued last year
Taller than that, maybe haha
196cm
lmao
You gotta be buying the extra room row seats right? I can just hardly fit in a normal row at my height
On flights lol didn’t mention that
haha XD
pretty good rn 😉
going to be ducking everywhere in japan
100%. Had to do a good bit at my height, might wanna wear a thick hat too just in case 😂
I get it at every izakaya lol
Also so easy to make at home, I was making it like twice a week last year hahaha
Wouldnt that be expensive buying drinks for the hosts?
My first time, it was 50USD for the drink + host set and some places were cheaper. if you stay longer than an hour, the drink prices rocket up to like 200USD per bottle on the lower end and yes some will try to pressure you into buying the bottle
I see Australians on HK subways ducking, im not sure what yall are eating
ahah xD
i mean japanese do love oversized clothes
with enough luck it will suit you just fine
considering lol i think it’s kinda insane tho but im curious
the whole host industry is fascinating
Same lol
fit me normally ahah
Oh I'm so fascinated by the whole industry
I just remembered as for clothes sunshine city is a really cool place to visit!
there is a really cool jiraikei shop
Ooh yeah! Sunshine city has a ton of cute shops
Sometimes it's a bit tough because you aren't always able to try stuff on
If anyone can go, got free VIP at 1oak
what day
👀
Anyone gonna be in Tokyo from March 14-18? Or Kyoto from 8-11 ?
Met heaps of people through here last year on my first solo trip to Japan and I’m coming back 😊
Ill be in tokyo 14 till 18 flyin back on the 19th always up for some drinks activitys
Perfect I’m always down for a good time, we can do karaoke go out on day trips
Anyone on here Aussie 🇦🇺
I am all in for karaoke 🙂
Haha will do
Also anyone know how I can filter the messages on here to see certain messages ?
Hello everyone 24m solo traveler here. I'll be in tokyo from 19-25 of march then kyoto after that, I already have a full itinerary for daytime but am free most nights and down for clubbing/bar hopping.
I'm in Tokyo on those dates, during the day I'm visiting cities around but I'm free for drink and clubbing
Epic! I'll add u and we can arrange meet up at the time.
Dam everyone coming late in March 🥲
Late in March is Cherry Blossoms.
I land in Tokyo on 7th but leave to Kyoto on 11th
And is now probably one of the most expensive weeks this year so far if you haven't planned anything yet.
Yeah I know it’s soo expensive cherry blossom season
If you planned six months before, it wouldn't be
Im in Kyoto from 8-11 I just miss ya
Now? Good luck
I booked 9 months ago
Yeah I saw 😂 our dates are completely opposite
Actually the expensive Hotel costs are only falling on Saturdays
Anything on the weekdays and Sunday are only partially inflated so far.
😂😂😂
Yess, i'll be in tokyo in march, i actually land on the 14th 😊
Mainly for cherry blossoms, but I also know I might miss it cuz it may be late this year. It's all about luck.
Yeah that’s true but it also depends on what money your converting from aswell
Its less that.
I added you will give u a message then 😊
Well I’m kinda losing money when I convert
What's your currency?
Australian
I booked last month, I needed to change one of the hotels date and the price was up but not that much tbh
So if you are American you guys are getting it good right now
I guess its not during the brutal double weekend of March 29-30 and April 5-6
Look at the price of hotels for March 29th.. Its insane.
Yeah I avoided the holidays
Yeah first week of april is the peak season of all year.
That’s why I’m coming early March
What about you ?
Because euro is absolute shit when I convert
I also lose 40 cents per dollar when I convert to usd
Damn
1€ is 157 yens
Highest 163 in the last month
😟
But also coming from Europe ur flights are expensive
Until bank of japan decided they got enough
When I looked in September it was 800€ round trip direct flight
I paid 1100 tho cause I waited for someone 😂
From Italy
Ok so I paid about 605 euros in your money to fly there last year
Omg everyone going in late march:(
It was a sale though
exactly same scenario for me, but they decided they wouldn't go, so i paid the highest price for nothing
Omg r u Italian
😂😂😂😂 i feel you
Technically yes but I wasn't born here, I came here 20 years ago when I was 10
Am exactly in your shoes rn. This is going to be my first solo trip just because my friend bailed on me lmao
Am still very excited tho
Really? Oh wow I'm from the North
Don’t be scared I did it last year and i had the best time of my life, just don’t overthink everything
honestly, bless them for giving us this opportunity
Yeah I love Italy I plan on going back next year
I'm half sicilian too ! but what u doin in australia ? 😂
Well if you ever pass by Turin let me know 😃
Omg we r gonna get along real well then
Grandparents all came to Australia on a boat back in the 1960s
Thank u! It helps that japan is very solo travel friendly.
Theres alot of cultures in Australia
Definitely will 😍
I think it was either Australia or new york 😂
Must've been a long ass ride for them
Yess exactly and that’s what made me feel more comfortable, don’t be scared to get out of ur comfort zone u won’t regret it and also don’t forget to enjoy yourself ❤️
Canadian here. I got a flight for $1550 CAD ish.
Definitely
We have a lot of European first generation Australians living in Australia
But we are all considered Australian but my roots are Croatian and Italian
Australia is a very diverse country we have a lot of different nationalities
Do you speak italian
R u from nz ?
Nah, rn i'm living in france
No I wish 😭 Sicilians speak so ghetto compared to the north HAHAHAHHAHAHA
Yeah the dialect is pretty heavy
Wow interesting so u were born in Sicily and moved ?
Very heavy it’s very different I feel like they r a different country when they talk and also I was very stubborn and didn’t want to learn
my grandma always gets mad when i say she's/ se speaks italian, she screaans SONO SICILIAANAAA
I barely understand the dialect where I live 😂
AHHAHAHAHAHAHA YESS
Yeah well my mum’s family is from Croatia but they r close to the border of Slovenia and Italy literally a 1 hour drive to trieste before world war 1 they were part of Italy before they became Croatia
I call my Croatian grandma Nona but spelt not the Italian way
my mom did that, but moved to the closest country to sicilia and i was born in tunisia THEN i moved to france 😭
Italian is nonna
Where from Croatia?
Omggg my grandmother was born in lybia I think they moved there for work but they moved back to Sicily when war happened
Rijeka we have a weird dialect it’s a mixture of Italian and Croatian
can't believe such close backgrounds are gonna meet in japan 😂
I'm gonna ask my grandma tomorrow
Yeah last year I met a lot of Americans, people from Asia aswell
On this discord community
And 1 Aussie 😂 I was lucky enough to meet 1
Because no one understands me when I talk
My slang is too much 😂😂😂
Let's get a round of "a little bottle of water" 😂 😂
I'd rather have a conversation with an aussie than a scottish tbh - but if i were to chose i'd chose neither
Yeah hard 😂😂😂 I’m a big drinker aswell
Irish is difficult for me
Scottish I can understand a lot more
Wait so where r u originally born in before u moved to Italy ?
I love meeting my people brings me back to feeling like I’m back in Europe 😍
Officially in "transnistria", it's an independent state not recognize by anybody 😂 it's in Moldova
Damn first time i hear about transnistria
Dam iv actually heard of that place before
Yeah I was born where tiraspol is
Forget that I said that
I was gonna say Yugoslavia
But I was thinking nooo
That’s close to Ukraine HAHAHAHAHAH
This is why I didn’t do well in geography
Yeah they actually had a war in the 90s
Yeah that’s when they got their independence
They separated from Moldova and have their own currency and everything
Problem is officially it's still Moldova
That’s so weird how that works
but under russian "protection", right ?
Yeah
Theres a lot of history that’s happened in Europe throughout many years
Many countries being separated
Or countries getting their independence
And then there’s Australia we r such a new country
so weird that ukraine is in the way between russia and transnistria, russians must've thought "mind if we bridge that?"
We are also one big island so we can’t be separated 😂
It could have a lot of history behind that place hence why they have made it seperate
I think they became an Independent country after the Soviet union
I looked up
Yeah but i mean, russian military presence on the other side of ukraine since like the nineties is a bit unsettling
Oh
Oooh right !
Yeah my grandma speaks Ukrainian and russian
The same thing happened with Yugoslavia
They basically took parts of the land they wanted
yeah makes sense
Yeah makes a lot of sense now 😂
1990s is when everyone fought for their independence of their countries
So they are not considered Soviet public anymore
Bosnia took a bit of Croatian beach when it happened
So when u cross over from split to Dubrovnik u cross the border into Bosnia
Damn i didn't know that ! went to split last summer, wanted to go to dubrovnik but didn't have enough time
You go on a bus tour for the trip ! But u just bring a passport
I would've crossed bosnia from my to go list if i only i did
We were gonna do it but we had so much going on already
U can definitely do a day trip from split
Exactly !
Still get the stamp and all HAHAHHAHA
Too busy enjoying the beach
That and exploring a lot
Walked a lot in Europe
But everything is beautiful
I haven’t visited everywhere in Europe only about 4 countries
But I love it there it’s so traditional and everywhere in Europe is beautiful
So if I book my tickets for next year and you guys wanna meet I’m keen !
But if you guys are willing to come south Italy
Because I love the south
I did Spain, Malta, Italy, Croatia
But it was a big trip I did a few cities inbetween and a lot of traveling
Was living out of my suitcase for 6 weeks
Damn ! that's a lifestyle at this point
I’d do other countries in Europe if my wages get any better 😂 but Europe is extremely expensive for Australians to go
Yeah when I go Japan I’m doing 2 other countries before I go home
I like to adventure out whenever I can afford it
Yeah i reckon europe is kinda expensive compared to, well, the rest of the world
what are you planning ?
I do Japan for 2 weeks, South Korea for 8 nights and Singapore for 3 nights
I live in Paris - i can't stress this enough 😂 There's NO calm time of the year when there are no tourists
Yep I’m in Sydney
Japan being the favorite child hahhahaha
😂😂😂
Most popular city in Australia
But Paris is very big and can fit the people
Sydney cant 😂
Yeah i heard it's crowded and noisy everywhere
U go to Australia u visit the coast of Australia if u go in the middle it’s nothing just dessert
Yeah I don’t live right in the city though
- kangaroos + 5 meters wide spiders + 8 meters long scorpions ?
Honestly no
Everyone thinks that
Kangaroos are unlikely to be in the city
You drive out to the farms yes
We have snakes deadly snakes but it’s very unlikely you would come across one when u visit iv only seen a wild one once
And only see kangaroos when I drive out to the farm
Scorpions aren’t bad
But spiders are bad because of the heat
But spiders are good in Australia, our heat is bad = more mosquitoes so spiders eat them
Spiders only attack when they feel threatened otherwise they won’t harm u they r most likely scared of u
Oh, so in the summer you get a shit ton of spiders out to feast on the mosquitoes ?
I have to say our birds are the worse in Australia 😂😂😂
I don’t care about anything else
how so ?
The birds are that bad
i've only heard of cute little australian birds
Yes we also have a lot of spiders because we r so hot
Ohhh noooo
Actually kookaburras
Are very cute
I’ll show u some examples of some birds u should avoid
If you get targeted by this bird they can remember ur face for up to 8 years
This is an ibis but we Aussies call them bin chickens for obvious reasons
holy shit this one looks like a birds grim reaper
This is an Indian minor bird they r actually not Australian birds but they are assholes iv had one peck at my windscreen and like screech at me everytime I went past it
this is NOT the image i had in mind for australian birds 😂
They r pests
Buuuuttt
These r the birds u see very often
And a pigeon obviously
We have pelicans on the beach’s
My favourite bird in Australia
They r very chill
And they sound beautiful
We have cockatoos that r beautiful and they r nice birds
U feed them and they will come to u everyday
These are cute but they sound terrifying
Exactly what i was thinking of ! I have a couple budgies and i heard they're australian birds, along with cockatoos
We also have the galah they r extremely smart
You go to Queensland u will see these cute birds
But I deal with the pest birds
that grim reaper is gonna haunt my dreams fr
They r pest of a bird 😂
We call them bin chickens because they r always in bins
Our birds are not afraid to come at you in Australia
So I’m more terrified of them then anything else 😂
Biggest fear would be hitting a kangaroo because they r likely to run across the roads
Heard they're amazing boxers - i'd imagine them road raging and coming at u if u hit them
Everytime I drive out the farm areas you see dead animals on the side of the road been hit because you can’t slow down quickly going fast on a motorway
If you hit them they always end up dead 😓 and ur car will be destroyed
U might not even have a car after u hit one
holy shit, sounds as bad as hitting a moose
Kangaroos are extremely big
They stand on their tale when they feel threatened
So if you come to Australia and ur scared of the animals just dont go to farm areas or designated areas of Australia
One night we drove back home from my cousins they live in the farm areas of NSW and this guy was walking across the road 😂 but we saw him and stopped turned off the lights for him and waited for him to go by
After thy, milady wombat
he's so cute
I love animals actually, i just don't wanna get in a fight with any 😂
Some of them r extremely friendly if they have been tamed in a zoo or been taken by humans
And some of them r harmless in general
We have alot of beautiful animals and species in Australia but yes some are deadly
We have sharks alot aswell
Unfortunately a lot of people do get killed by sharks in Australia
Not everyday
You are always warned about sharks though if they are close by
Sorry I’m talking so much shit it’s my adhd
😂😂😂
Naah dw about it, i'm chatting with half by brain cause i'm at work, the conversation is really interesting
Only had vague ideas about australia
AHAHAHAHHA well that’s good to hear
Yeah everyone hears a lot of wrong things about Australia
It’s not as dangerous as it is
And mind you I love the ocean I go in the beaches but I try to avoid swimming too far out
Go too far and you might end up literally in the middle of nowhere
Yes that and you could come across a shark in the deep end
Our beaches are rough aswell
Also don’t recommend Bondi beach 😂 such a tourist beach it’s really not that good
I wanna pet a wombat one day
And then it’ll snack on my finger as revenge
They are friendly
They don’t hunt
They r most likely to be hunted
If they hunt it’s for small things
I’m thinking of that one video of a guy feeding a wombat corn
Maybe there’s a wombat cafe in Japan my irls booked a capy cafe..
When are you coming to Japan my friend I’ll bring u a wombat plushy
Wtf me too
Yes u too
Yay
Lemme see where I can find one HAHAHHAHA
I feel like they are always koalas
I come to Tokyo form the 14-18
Dam I’m in Seoul from 18-23
I’m tokyo 1-20
Ukraine but currently living UK
Wow so many different cultures
Last year I had a lot of Americans
I met up with
Through this community
There do be a lot of Americans here
Sydney all of them
There was a guy from Perth but he couldn’t make it 🫠
Im 25
me 26
Dam
Oooooooo
This is great
As of 2 weeks ago lmao
Happy birthday to you
No waaay
28 is not old
We’re all old it’s true
But I feel old 😂
Tryna not think about it
Iv always wanted to go Canada though
It looks beautiful
But Canada is sooo expensive for me
Australian dollar is shit
Which makes everything expensive but Canada is on my bucket list
Yes the nature 😍
One thing I loved about Japan aswell when you go out of the cities it’s so pretty
We have no mountains here 😂 we do but they no where near as big as Canada
Yess me last time I went 😭😭
Friend keeps offering me to come to Canada and canoe with him
I was thinking of going next year if I don’t go to Korea
Also I feel bad for him cause we did a France trip recently and now he’s poor and missing out on the jp trip 😅
That sounds awesome
Omgg what a bummer
I been saving for this trip for 9 months
I got back from my Japan trip 2 weeks later I saw sales on flights to Japan and I booked it 😂😂
Lmaoo that’s a fast impulse buy
I honestly wasn’t planning on going either but I got roped in by some friends and kinda glad I did
So is this gonna be your 2nd time?
Yes
Went solo the first time
Going solo again
Lots of freedom
The last time I went with 2 others but one guy was doing basically a whole year in japan so I was really lucky in one sense
But didn’t end up doing a lot of the touristy stuff
Yeah
Honestly sounds really fun
Yeah I mean it’s a long time so it’s fine not to minmax everything
anyone planning to go sapporo?
My friend was talking about how he spent a few days at a time just sat in a hostel playing tft to mentally reset sometimes lmao
Damn. 1626 message. Fellas.... March is still 22 days away
I always go hard and pre-plan the entire trips but this one I’m trusting my friends a lot more
I usually never have free days 😂
but we're so excited
have u tried living through the panic ?
Excel planning sends me into anxiety attacks. Had someone try to do that once and control everything down to the minute. I can’t travel like that, way too many “look squirrel” moments
yeah $1 USD is about 150yen now..it was 158ish
My short term rental in Tokyo is pretty well priced compared to anything you can get in my city in the US. I’m not in a high cost of living area either
I will admit the apartment is pretty small, but it’s in a solid party of Tokyo
I completely understand that, I think the trick is use excel to just kinda summarize your ideas and general logistics. asian countries in general are really known for "look squirrel" moments, there's just so much everywhere all the time that you want enough buffer time to essentially "chase the rabbit hole"
i asked chatgpt to make my itinerary, and so far it seems good.. not excel sheet, but it gives me timetable ish
if anyone interested to check it out lol

Friday, March 7th: 🏯 Kamakura & Enoshima Day Trip from Tokyo Theme: Zen temples, historic shrines, the Great Buddha, and Enoshima Island 🚆 7:00 AM – Depart from Tokyo Take the JR Yokosuka Line from Tokyo or Shinagawa Station (~1 hour) Arrive at Kita-Kamakura Station by 8:00 AM 8:15 AM – Ke...
only note I have from a quick scan is that on Saturday the 15th you have the monkey park at 4:30 pm but it closes at 4
And it's a steep ~400M walk up to where the park actually is, so I'd give yourself like up to 30 min to just walk there depending on what part of arashiyama you start from
I'd also recommend doing Tenryu-ji instead of Adashino Nenbutsu-ji
thanks for letting me know!! Guess I can skip that
It would take you an hour to walk from Adashino to the monkey park
Oh I wasn't recommending to skip it, the monkeys are really cool
I have been to Tenryu-ji, so this time around I am visiting places that I have not been too
Chatgpt i a Life saver ahahha
Oh ok gotcha. Idk how bad you want to see the monkeys but I really really liked it and got some awesome pics last year. One of the best lookout views over Kyoto as well IMO
so thats why most of the Kyoto stuffs doesnt have the common touristy stuffs like fushimi inari, or etc
Def don't skip Okochi Sanso that was top 3 gardens for me last year
gotcha that makes sense
I used MrT itinerary to kinda pick places that I havent been too, and insert it to chatgpt to see whats the best way to see it
and other people recs to make my other itinerary
when will be in Japan @bold totem
If you want optimal routing, just put everything into google maps - chatgpt obviously isn't good at that if it told you to do Iwatama after that temple lol
I love using it for planning out my days - it gives really accurate timings for walking, transit etc along with all the prices
the 12th to the 25th! Spending most of my time in kyushu but doing a quick stop in okayama and osaka
Yeah still need to polish my itinerary, but this way I have the general idea
Yea that's pretty good for a high-level itinerary - I'm sure if you go and plug all the locations in you could optimize it based on the best route or just what order you may want to check stuff out in
Also for anyone else who is still doing any itinerary planning or thinking of ways to add to their existing ones, most cities have really good stuff on their tourism sites with sample routes for entire days or even multiple days
Fukuoka: https://gofukuoka.jp/searches?q=&story[]=article&who[]=
Kagoshima: https://www.kagoshima-yokanavi.jp/en/itinerary
couple examples
Welcome to the official website of Fukuoka City, where you can find recommendations for places to visit, review sample itineraries, and get inspired for your trip.
Thanks!
Holy shit all the messages lol! If you wanna go to 1OAk just shoot me a text and I’ll give you a name for guest list
what is 10AK?
It’s a club that has artists from time to time
Here it’s not too bad but wanna check it out in Tokyo
Are u Mexican??
lol me too
Nice heard a lot of our kind like to go to Japan
I think our kind is just everywhere lol
Nah they barely get into the USA what makes you think there’s tons everywhere else lol
Ima have to find a taco place though for sure
I saw that there’s one in harajuku im tryna check out
They definitely not in 🇦🇺 I rarely come across Mexicans
Smhh I heard low % in aus
Yeah I was kinda joking lol
Yeah low percentage but we still do have a lot of Latino’s and latinas living in Australia
Im always down for Mexican food 😂
What are your dates?
Obviously have to get tacos as your first meal in japan
Aw I’ll be in Tokyo 5-11
Same
We def getting tacos
Someone should set up a Calendy or Google Sheet where we can see who will be in which city and when
Theres already such
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1I7I5v-Xp1wqdSoQyyI3o9J37_VQkvKS60GC4NI9mrYw/edit?gid=0#gid=0
Thanks. Sure you’ve already thought of it but I would have put the city as the first column and then group people into the cells so you can see everyone who will be in X on a certain date.
my schedule is the total opposite lol.. tokyo 4-8, kyoto 14-18
Can you add me to the list for Tokyo for the entire month?
Thanks
You can edit the sheet yourself
Its open
Added your name.
nevermind, I added it for you
What will you all do on your loonnnggggg flight to japan? there is only so many movies you can watch XD
my flight is 12-15 hours 😭
i already put some movies on my tablet...
Thank you!
15 hours ouch
Yeah I’m going from south to north Japan that’s why 😭
whatever the Timeshift app tells me to do so I can avoid jetlag entirely
whats timeshift app?
It's an app that was created based on NASA research for sleep patterns, their intent was for pilots and astronauts but the concept applies to anyone in the sky
You tell it your flight itinerary and it will tell you what to do for like 2 days leading up to, and during your travel in order to attempt to reset your body's circadian rhythym to your destination
thereby significantly reducing or entirely eliminating the jet lag. It's pretty sweet and worked like a charm for me last year. First trip is free too I believe
thanks! i am going to look into it now
This was mine for my flight back home. It basically tells you when to avoid and expose yourself to light (natural or unnatural) to trick your body into being adapted to your destination local time
I hardly even actually slept during my ‘sleep’ part on the flight to Japan, but by putting on an eye mask and earplugs and just chilling you trick your brain into being sleepy time and I hit the ground running in Osaka
Definitely trying that out
Going to try that out as well
I do something similar but I just turn off my hearing aids and drink some wine and pop Melatonin
(I do not endorse this strategy)
No wonder I was ko'd during my last Japan trip after landing..
I landed literally a day before a concert and Jet lag destroyed me.
Oof
Also, not getting much sleep on flight in addition to flight being 3 hours late didn't help matters either
Yeah I was only there for 10 days last year so I needed to make the most of every second and the app helped a ton. Especially since the first trip is free no reason to not give it a shot
My biggest impediment to sleeping is space
I’m always cramped up
I should have gotten premium economy for this trip
Yeah I have a hard time sleeping sitting down
I see it recommends me to wake up at 1am to prepare for flight..
The extra legroom rows in standard economy are tight
Thanks for the recc tho 🙏🏼
I recently splurged on Economy Plus. I'm a tall person and regular economy is pain, especially inbound
Yeah it’s gonna tell you to do stuff very irregular to your current home schedule. If you can’t follow it fully at least doing closer to what it recommends than what you normally do will help
Outbound is less of a concern.
Yeah idc about outbound
Inbound is more important for my sleep cycle and jet lag
Just substitute with more wine
I can't drink too much alcohol. My liver is fucked
melatonin makes me too groggy even if I take only 5mg or less
I'm prescribed trazodone so when I absolutely need to sleep I can make it happen lol
I took 15 mg once and had an out of body experience
That was wild
Actually, can you bring Benadryl into Japan?
That’s what might screw me up is bad allergies
benadryl is otc so it should be fine
Fantastic and any meds is no more than a month’s supply right?
Got it, guess I’ll guess check the list of prohibited substances just to make sure and then bring a bottle with me
I always bring like a 365 pill bottle of allergy OTC stuff
Costco King
That’s what I plan to do
That's the exact one I have
Yeah I usally bring allergy pills and a nasal spray
And a ton of masks
I have like 2000 masks at home, so I always bring like 20-30 with me on a trip, especially for winter ones
Oh yeah, thr KN95s or such. Also have those
You can buy masks in Japan, but I already have a massive amount at home so I'd prefer not to spend the money
Masks couldn't prevent me from getting the flu on my last trip 😦
Jokes on you
On my last trip I came with pneumonia!
It wasn't actually that bad
👁️👄👁️
I had pneumonia for like 1-2 weeks, but the symptoms were pretty mild besides a very aggressive cough
Am I gonna get it?
Once I went to see a doctor and got antibiotics
It basically destroyed the pneumonia within a few days
My symptoms when I got back..
Hoarse to close to loss of voice, coughing, runny nose, shortness of breath..
and then I used BRON for the cough
I NEVER lost my voice when I was ill. That flu was no normal flu.
I got the flu this time last year and it fucked me up. Honesty don't think I ever caught it before then
you can bet I got my vaccine this year lol
eh it very well could have been worse if you didn't get it; but since it's pretty much just their best guess every year it also may not have lol hard to say
At first I thought it was COVID
But multiple tests came back negative
Even the one at the hospital.
Should get it now
Fair point
Vaccine takes time to take effect.
I brought a lot of medication with me last time I went to Japan they didn’t even check me or anything I brought a doctors letter incase they do pull me up aswell
I too brought medication for this
Ok, I’ll do my vaccine this coming week
It unfortunately didn't help 😦
Huh !!
When on my flight home, I had a major runny nose.
No way
Is there anything I should prep before I leave? Like immigration
Ik I saw something about a QR code for speed but anything else?
visit japan QR code
Fill it out and screenshot the QR code
You'll need to present it for immigration
Oh and when descending, lots of fluid went into my inner ears, causing massive pain
Yeah I did it all in the airport last time
Yes
It takes about 2 weeks to take full effect
I already have my VJW things filled up.
I don't have insurance, so I get mine at costco for like $20
Thanks but no harm in having it sooner. Just not like 6 months soon
but some places give it for free to those without insurance
Nah, I'd get it like 2-3 weeks before your trip
My workplace gives it for free
I live in Canada and we get our flu shots for free.
Then 100%
what kind of vaccines?
I’m just getting a flu vaccine
Actually might as well throw Covid in
Double whammy time
I got a moderna and a flu vaccine refresh a couple of months ago.
Haven't gotten sick for a while now
Same in 🇦🇺
I can’t get flu shots yet because it’s not winter for me yet
It’s currently summer
Understandable.
Going into Japan from 28 Celsius which is about 86 Fahrenheit
I rather take 9℃ over 25+℃
Omg Canada uses Celsius aswell !!
I think it varies by ambient and cooking
Only a few countries use F
I know there’s at least one country that uses C for weather and F for cooking
Which is fucking bonkers
That’s mental
I think thr UK also uses both metric and imperial but as we just saw, I have a hard time remembering countries
If only US could do the same
I give us a pass on metric tho because to change out every Highway sign, each speed limit sign, every car in thr US with metric is infeasible
I think 'merica use freedom unit... lol.
I got flu vaccines in September. And i refuse to do anymore covid...i got 4 of them, and I am convinced it caused me a lot of issues now
By any chance does anyone know a discord group similar to this for South Korea ?
Yesss I’m going after Japan on the 18-26
I head off to Busan on the 23
Yea seoul
Im going to visit my friend whos doing a study abroad there
Gonna be in hongdae
Who in the group here has the google spreadsheet id like to add my Japan itinerary and see others 😊
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1I7I5v-Xp1wqdSoQyyI3o9J37_VQkvKS60GC4NI9mrYw/edit?gid=0#gid=0
We should for sure organise some Tokyo meet-up
I’m thinking 16th maybe
I’ll erase it after you read it
Just made for an interesting itinerary
Yep definitely
The travel costs must add up tho
A tad bit
Going to Kusatsu Onsen from Tokyo was expensive
It’s actually not as bad as you might think
I guess it depends on the type of travel. Some long tour buses are cheap
Just take a long time
Compared to trains
I’m up for a meet up on the 16th 😊
Anyone know any onsens that are tattoo friendly near Kyoto or Tokyo ?
Or can I just go private ?
You can just rent a private onsen. They don't care about your tattoos in there.
Onsens don't tend to be in major metropolitan cities, though there are sometimes a rare few
You usually have to venture out a bit to get to them
Do you know if it’s very expensive for a private bath ?
I am going to Fukuoka and Fujikawaguchiko, Hakone aswell
Possibly there would be onsen towns around
Are you wanting to day trip to an onsen
or are you wanting to stay at a ryokan?
Day trip definitely
Ryokan is very expensive I would love to do it one day
But I’m solo so I don’t see the point of me doing it solo
Hakone Yuryo - Public baths "Honden Yurakuan Oyu" , Private open - air baths "Hanare Yuya Kaden".
This probably works for you
In Hakone
I will say the private onsen fees are pretty damn high
Ok I’m gonna sus it out thank you for the recommendation though I really appreciate it 😍
It’s my second time coming back to Japan in 8 months
I couldn’t get enough of it 😂
Though
I'd honestly recommend this one instead - https://www.hanakaido.co.jp/en/hotspring/
Ogoto Onsen isn't that far from Kyoto
and its far less crowded/busy than Hakone and Lake Kawaguchiko
You can get a 50 minute private onsen
Oooo ok thank you
and a kaiseki lunch
Dam 😭😭😭
I’m gonna have to buy something to cover up
The Japanese locals told me I could buy something to cover up my tattoos
You can always email them
and ask them if they'd allow a solo traveler
They might
Send the email in both english and Japanese
If you can cover up the tattoos then you're usually fine
but if you got like a giant sleeve/back tattoo, etc
then no bueno
Yeah I will see how I go I might go get something waterproof like a bandage like I can put on when I go in the water
I don’t have anything massive that is hard for me to cover up
That’s a lie my big tattoo might be hard to cover 😂😂😂
But I got a small one on my neck and plan to get some in Japan
Neck tat? Let’s see
Back of the neck actually 😂
It’s an evil eye I don’t have a photo and it’s extremely hard for me to get a photo of it 😂
Very small job only took about 20 minutes because no shading but my big one took 6 hours
Hello everyone, I will be in Tokyo 6 - 21 March. Keen on joining some day trips outside of Tokyo or meet up for food! 🐥
Anyone want to go? March 6th?
https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1BdgZd94Bh/
See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
I’m down to go but idk if I’ll be able to make it I’ll be in shinjuki that night:/
Shinjuku*
@sand valley @bold totem I'll be in Fukuoka on March 11th, want to check out the Yatai in the evening?
Or if you guys already have other dinner plans I'd be happy to tag along, if that's okay with you.
We haven't made any bookings yet! I'm all free on the 11th for Yatai!"
nice! let's talk closer to the day then
I think there are a few different yatai spots in the city, I'll do some research
Ahhh soo many things to do its only the first week of march lol
Same in shinjuku same night
meeeeeeeee
My flight is in 3 weeks! Eekkkk!
6 weeks and 3 days for me.
3 weeks and 2 days for me!:)
10 days for me cant wait 😁
As a first time solo traveler I’m so nervous AND it’s my first time in Japan
Well at least you’ll come prepared if you’re nervous
You will be fine japan is the most chill country to navigate . This will be my first time solo japan but my 3rth time Total:)
That’s true, Im scared but I didn’t overplan (I think) cause I really just wanted to explore and chill
I’m sooooo excited I haven’t told anyone I’m going lol other than my boyfriend and parents
That’s the strat if you got more than 2 weeks honestly
Thats already a great start my first time i planned way to much ended up being very stressed now i Just plan 1 or 2 activitys and Just go with the flow
I’m only going for a week because of work, but I’m gonna stay the whole time in Tokyo
I have a list of places I wanna go to everyday but I’m not worried if I don’t get to do all tbh
Ye that’s fair
I live really far so a week to me feels almost not worth but it all depends
Likewise
Life is about adventure though
Yeah I live in the us but I got the tickets for cheap and I’ve been wanting to do it
Exactlyyyy I’m excited
How did you plan? I’m trying to build a list of things to do then go from there
I used wanderlist, it’s an app where you can plan by date and it tells you you how long the route will be and it pins it on a map so it helps if you’re a visual person
I used it on a trip to New York and it honestly helped a lot and it was only a weekend
For the places I just saved overtime places I wanted to see and in the app checked what was closer to each other and planned it by days after that
I’ll have to check it out, thanks!
Are we gonna go for tacos
I don’t think it does tbh
I’m downnn what day?
The 8th?
Can we do 9th ? I’m doing a day trip to kamakura on the 8th
Lmao
Wait does anyone know how popular kamakura is with the locals
Just noticed it’s a Saturday
I’m game for tacos
No idea I just picked a random day
yh friends picked that day not sure why
Anyone know if it’s worth doing a day trip to nagano ?
Because if I don’t see snow next month for the first time I’m considering doing a day trip 😂
yesss l wanted to try this!
I got these off amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DKHYNN9B?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
I have a some tattoos that are not demure sized that I need to cover up 😂
Life saviour thank you
plane tickets to sapporo can be like $70 USD round trip depending how far out u can book them, it’s like a 1.5h flight so kinda crazy for a day trip but u will definitely see snow lol
Do you know anywhere else that would have snow close to Tokyo ?
try watching/looking into weather forecasts in the area leading up to ur trip!
I have been even just a little snowfall and I’ll be very happy 🥹
I’m in 🇦🇺 we don’t have real snow 😂
oh lol i was gonna say we literally just got a ton of snow yesterday in boston/northeast USA
Yeah southern hemisphere here
Suffering through the heat right now
😂😂😂
Do you get jet lag when u go to Japan ?
Because I know US is far
And Timezone is so different
i only went once before but i remember waking up at like 3am after the first day so yeah
Yeah because it would be 6pm in Japan and like during the night in America depending on where you are
I get no jet lag because Japan is only 2 hours behind
It’s great

Thank you so much 🥹🥹🥹
I love reddit for looking for things aswell
