That works too
I’ll just be walking around golden gai trying to find a bar first
And then whoever meets up at the 7/11 will have a group to meet us. Sorry for the confusion yall
I'm in golden gai now. Don't know name of bar but can head out in ten to meet wherever
Cool im a few minutes out
so now its bottles, thighs and god
Shibuya eh?
Chicks eh?
Damnit I really shouldn’t (gotta fly out at 10 tomorrow lol)
Is the ratio really 100:1? 😂😂
Where is the Shinjuku crowd going?
I’m not concerned about sleeping
I'm in O2 now, can meet elsewhere though. There's a crew of Americans here on second floor
More the vomiting on the plane part
Address?
I’m down to meet you outside 02
And we can figure out if wanna stay or leave ?
@keen parrot Outside of O2
On my way to Golden gai
We need a few more peeps to complete the lyrics to Low by Flo Rida 😂
Oh Kareoke? Hard pass lol
You're already karaokeing ? Damn
thats my jam!
No karaoke allowed! I run
omg i think i just jaywalked
Hm stairs doesn't really fit, so let's go with floor for you
Come up O2
how old are yall in this chat
27
You should bring them elsewhere, hub do be expensive sorta 🤔 or is it comfy in there?
Any space left?
Yeah!
Baseball is on and Japan is winning 😂
So extra points for vibes
You don't ask a lady her age 😤
i think im outside lol
That explains the screaming from the sports bar over the road
Am I blind where is this place?
Ok heading over.
Come in homie
hold on im in familymart. how do i spot you guys
😂 sounds fun, stay safe and have a good one!!
We are a big colorful group talking very loud english
which table lol
Right by the entrance
Trains delayed.
Hardcore uwu?
Yall still at o2?
I bought some of those back in June for people in the denim server
Though they asked me to get the 7 and 9?
These ones
No sorry that's @sturdy zenith's group
Can I come join yall lol.
I found some English speaking group and they were like can't join us lol.
What a bunch of fuckwits haha
Where u at now? I went like 10 stops in the wrong direction due to gps being fucked in Tokyo
I’m a few stops away from Shinjuku but still need food
Their loss. But I just left and my group was going some place else. So I'd say keep an eye out here
??
Ah yes nice, i have no5s
So the nights over?
Tomorrow I'm planning to do some arcade games
- are you guys in ?
- do you know a good place ?
Maybe some DDR/other irl games
Alright I guess I’m going rogue on my last night here. Will be less lame than this 😂
Just go to akihabara and do an arcade crawl @still sedge there is so many game arcades there, too many even haha
Calling it a night. Have fun out there.
Take it easy yo, pleasure to meet ya!
If you're in Japan, change your role to in Japan
that way its easier for people to know that you're in Japan
Likewise. I'll see you in Thailand.
Rip I was just about to head out
Rip. What's out there.
Down to do another 6am danish.
You guys are hardcore
I'm feelin snackish
Lol something like that
Minefield?
Whaaa
It is pumping pretty hard Kabukicho
I’m eating ramen then I don’t know what, maybe hit up the metal bars or something 🤷♂️
I’m not fucking leaving!!!!
I usually only have ramen like once every 2-3 weeks while I'm in Japan
Its like sushi, I rarely eat it
I have it every 2nd day in Sydney to be honest haha
I only eat ramen when I have to, like its too late and few things are open
Yeah they’re always open until like 2am
Sydney is way undersold on its foodie scene imo
Bingo
The ramen I’ve had here is just as good back home haha
Sushi I rarely actually eat while in Japan
Maybe once every 2-3 weeks while I'm there
I may not be able to drink after this ramen, it’s huge
What do you eat? @tough storm
Argh haha
I've been eating sushi every night cuz it ain't the best back home.
Small meals have been my go to, like sushi
It’s really good back in Sydney, but like 5 times the prices of here
Ramen too, imagine paying 30 usd for your fix
I’m so not happy about going back home tomorrow haha
Depends on where I am. I focus on local specialties
If I'm in Tokyo, it depends on which part of the city I'm in an what's nearby that I want to eat
I see.
I don't eat a lot of yakiniku or shabu shabu
Teppanyaki sometimes, but not too often
Meat can get quite pricy, so I usually avoid it
Lots of cold tea
I see it all as dirt cheap lol
I mean more like
16,000 yen for 150 grams of meat
Not stuff that is like 3000-4000 yen
I'm talking about meat that usually runs like 6000-20,000 yen
If you consider 30,000 yen cheap, then eating anywhere shouldn't be an issue for you
That's enough to cover a lot of high end sushi joints
Any recommendations in Shinjuku?
Might as well grab some sushi after this since it looks like drinks is dead
Most high end sushi places require a reservation, so you can't just walk in
F
seeing meat at an Osaka supermarket legit made me cry a little inside
wagyu meat too
I eat pretty much every kind of Japanese food except offal soup/stew and mentaiko
Like you said, if you consider 30-40,000 yen meals cheap
Just go anywhere
Money isn't an issue for you
4 star?
On Google
I wouldn't go off of google reviews
Tried a few below that in my first days here and it was really average
surely use tabelog and check that the reviews there are 3.5+ stars
yeah what Japanese people use
Oh well too late now, good tip for next time cuz yeah google isn’t reliable either
It’s just better than going in blind
Tabelog users tend to review more harshly so above 3 star should be fine
Can you help me get a resy at Den?
as someone who also usually lives in Sydney, I also cry a lot about this lmao
I wouldn't say it's 5 times the price
4 then
lol
I’m not including Woolworths and Cole’s because that is not real meat haha
iirc... in sydney:
1.5-2k yen / 15-20 aud for cheap ramen
3k-4k yen / 30-40 aud for more expensive ramen??
Den?
I haven’t found something to beat gumshara ramen here haha, taste wise anyway
Ramen hiro tho… would recommend!
Eh....
I really wanna go for a run tomorrow.
I think you should refer to my list
There are several much better ramen joints on my list - https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ck8q3176BEy84SAfA
i wish i ran more when i was in japan it looked fun
This my last meal in Japan haha
Yeah I know but the seating situation is cooked tonight
i heard yoyogi park is a good spot
Hiro I chose because someone mentioned it here
And I’ve never had a chicken broth ramen tbh
Mostly pork, soy and tomato based broths
It's hard to gauge the need for a run since I'm not tracking my steps. You know you are walking a ton anyway
And it's hard to eat healthy while you're out here.
Everything in your list is closed
So it wouldn’t have mattered tonight for me anyway haha
how big is the line for gumshara on weekday nights (excl friday)
I feel like I've sorta gotten used to lining up for stuff cuz of Japan lol
There are a lot of ramen joints on the list
but you also didn't say where you were
Sydney is still easier to eat at
i was walking 20k steps a day lol yeah you might not need to run
Japanese restaurants in Tokyo Japan. From Michelin Stars. Jimbocho Den will strive for customers who love Japanese cuisine from heart.
Glad I have a self catering place. I need to visit the local supermarket and buy some veggies lol
It’s worse since they moved out of eating world food court
I call, but I don't have luck.
like... 1 hour? 2 hours? 3 hours?
Idk if it's cuz my code isn't a Japanese one.
I can tolerate 1 hour of waiting
Yeah I can't make a call for you. That's something you have to ask your hotel about.
I feel like the only problem with Sydney is that it's not as common to eat by yourself, so you need someone else who's ok with waiting 30 minutes for a bowl of ramen
Noted, thanks.
hmm
10+ years of eating out everyday lol
Korean restaurants are a bit iffy
But everywhere else don’t give a shit
i guess I did see some ppl eat alone in world square
Japan really did change me in making me comfortable doing shit solo
(well, mostly lol)
It made me uncomfortable tbh
Maybe because I came from Thailand and it was VERY jarring
Like the maid cafe stuff… a sign of something much deeper… haha
oh I mean... if you go to maid cafes, then yeah that's gonna be uncomfortable no matter what
The fact it’s an in demand service here says lots
I was thinking normal places like ramen shops, temples, Gundam statues idk
People are even lonelier than in Sydney
:(
Yeah u know what I mean haha
wanna go for drinks when we're both in Sydney?
Fuck yeah
like prolly near end of month, if I don't forget
sounds good
ooh nice, dang you're travelling a lot
I'd do the same but I don't have enough annual leave
Getting it all out of my system before world war 3 starts lol
Haha I believe we are already in it tbh
sorry, 20 Jan 2025
Shite gonna get bad real quick
@tough storm where is the store located? Indigo kaptal
The one I bought it from was kapital ginza
we're watching history get created 😭
idk I've been distracting myself by having cheap booze in osaka
They sell out pretty fast I've bee told
Wheeee at the airport now flying in 2 hrs 😀😀😀
Boarding now, 14hrs to go 🇯🇵
Any good rooftop bars in Tokyo.
Have a safe flight 🫡.
Off to be dodgy in kibukicho, chicken broth ramen is dope!
Enjoy the rest of your time here @willow idol
Kabukicho is fine, just don't spend money there lol
Good luck, it was a gruesome flight
Since there is no party on tonight haha
buy souvenirs
buy some booze
“Souvenirs” 😂
My travel case is weighing exactly 39.9kg right now
That's one hell of an overweight fee lol
Most do, if u don’t use economy
Ummm
Its usually 32kg
I'm not sure where you're getting 40 kg from?
What airline are you flying?
Qantas?
You didn't say which airline though
Because I have a feeling you’re going to go off and research and try and prove me wrong?
I mean its a pretty easy thing to look up
You just have to say which airline
but I've never heard of any airline that allows a 40 kg checked bag without paying overweight fees
Most non LCC airlines will do 23 kg for economy
and then 32 kg for business or first
For Den, it's all about the first successful call u make daily
I've never heard of any doing 40
It is always fully booked
I mean you can always just say which airline
Thai airways and Japan airlines are both over 40kg lol
considering it's going to Sydney, I assume it's one of Qantas, JAL, ANA, Jetstar, or maaaaybe Qatar or Virgin
Like it doesn’t take anything more than a google search
Not sure why u are persisting on this
40kg in economy? o.O
JAL is 32kg
It literally says on their website
See
Your a complete cock sucker
Just like everyone said
Ban me I don’t give a fuck lol
xD wtf
what did i walk into?
bruh if they ban u we won't be able to meet up for drinks when I get back 💀
I had like 10 people here warn me about u
Lmfao
Add my username now then
lol
What a dickhead
I’m out
<@&560861727692947456>
Lmfao
He was talking about a single suitcase
Not multiple suitcases
right here
so.. anyone around Sendai area late November by chance?
Total cock sucker
You can’t be wrong
And you get people banned when proven wrong
I’ve been well warned about u
Get a life
Now I’m out,
Considering that you probably haven't met anyone here, I'm fine with that
or you aren't even in Japan
Jeez what a weird fellow
For those who like parks, highly recommend the Showa Kinen National Park at Tachikawa (about 50 mins away from Akihabara)
Now they are banned
looks calming^^ just right for now
Go in the afternoon to cycle around and chill, and then for this period, there's the night illumination
damn
Biking around is p fun
Nicee. It's not too crowded as well
For a non-LCC airline
my max is 21kg for klm and airfrance iirc
sounds about right
We would have gone to the Japanese Garden but damn it was raining
I can't recall any airline that allows over 32 kg normally
Have to remember that all these airlines pretty much fly similar aircrafts
tbf japanese gardens and rain have a whole diffent awesome vibe to them honestly
Wow I love the parasols here
i like rainy days in Japan
They are so peaceful and relaxing
Love it too. The mirror was placed there for people to take pictures with the reflections
I spent a lot of time in the mountains this trip with the fog on the mountains
Those fog you see in Japanese cinema make so much sense
45 kg is possible for first class
For a single suitcase without paying overweight?
right? just wrap up, get an umbrella and enjoy a totally peaceful view and calm space. i really enjoy those sights. especially if there's small rivers around or bridges
I know if you're willing to pay overweight fees, you can go over 32 to kind crazy numbers
Japan is the only place I will venture out when it’s raining 🌧️ lol
I just wish it wasn't raining when I'm outside .....
hearing those numbers i'm getting worried because i just booked carryon this time. i may have to do checkin luggage at the airport for home
If you have max status on certain airlines - addon fees can be waived, but yeah, 20/23/32 kg are the usual limits.
ahh okay
That's fair
tbf i do love rainy days in Europe too, especially in forests
What airline are you flying
Most international flights get free economy checked bags
Though if you're doing LCC, it will be different
Maybe not so bad. When it rains in the uk it sucks lol (which is all the time)
this time airfrance. unfortunately they didn't let me book checked for only the return flight. they mentioned i could somehow book it at the airport, but i didn't really find a lot of information about it.
i didn't want to fly with an empty suitcase for 200eur more per destination
I get that.
Send them an email. I bet they can clear up that situation for you.
Rather you have peace of mind now than being worried as you approach the airport
yeah i will give them a call next week, they were really nice when they cancelled my flight back too
That's good to hear
I've had positive experiences with AF. They've always been willing to help or work with me as long as I wasn't being an asshat
yeah, French customer service isn't known to be the most accomodating usually, but if you're polite, they're polite as well 😄
i also called them 2 minutes before their closing time and apologised, they took it really well and were friendly
Surprising how being a reasonable and polite person makes people willing to help you
right?!
i work in customer service, so i get it honestly lol
😂 tbf my colleague complains about weather here besides having lived in London for years. he always says we have far more rainy days and they're more windy
me too 😆 and thanks! lol
I think at 200 EUR you might be able to ship your purchases back home instead
i'm a bit more worried about customs upon arrival then though. i would have to declare every single item too
That’s fair. I’ve been pretty fortunate there but i know EU is a lot tougher on customs.
Attack on Titan, written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, is a dark and suspenseful post-apocalyptic manga series. In a world where humanity teeters on extinction, gigantic humanoid creatures known as Titans devour humans seemingly without reason.
The story follows Eren Yeager, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert...
142209
i received a package from outside europe from an ex once and had to pay 30eur in customs for my old dress, some nail polish, half a box of tampons that was still in his bathroom and some tiny squishy dicks he found funny to pack in there 🤣
since he didn't mention he would send my old trash back, i didn't even know what was in there and accepted
Yeah i had to mark a package i sent to greece before as a gift and wrapped in clearly recycled and kinda dingy packaging and my friend still had to pay 45 EUR
it's wild sometimes. i used to buy japanese pokemon cards from someone in Japan for a while. they always declared it as gift and i never had to pay customs. there was a bunch of cards with money worth but to customs it was paper trash i suppose?
but beware of squishy dick toys and opened tampons 😆 that'll cost you a bunch!
Plenty of people just buy a suitcase while in japan though, you can probably get one for less than 200 EUR if you didn’t want to pay the fee to bring and empty one over
My checked bag was dangerously close to the limit when I was coming back yesterday
yeah i already know where to get a suitcase that's sturdy enough for a long haul for around 50eur, not sure if i want to yeet one around though^^ we'll see how much i shop. maybe i'll just stay frugal for once 🤣
My limit for 32 kg per bag and I was at like 31.50 when I weighed it myself
I think their machine weighed it at like 30.50
I really came with a completely empty suitcase this time around
Thankfully they didn't weigh my bag again when I had to recheck it in ORD
Because it was definitely over 32 kg after I added a big bottle of whiskey
last time i was at 20.7kg and had issues lifting it honestly, it was a hassle, so i want to avoid it at all cost
i overpacked from home though, i didn't even shop much
won't happen again
Last time i was dangerously close to the weight limit and had to sit on my suitcase to close it
I was so physically exhausted by the end
My carry on + personal item combined were like 60 pounds
Basically carrying half my body weight
- stairs and humid japanese june day, not a nice combo
i have a new backpack for carryon that just fits the need and if i shop, i might buy a small suitcase to bring back stuff. i suppose skincare and such will be in there.. so i have to check it in
if travelling with such a suitcase, always put on accessibility mode on google maps.. it'll show you all the ways to elevators 😄
yeahhh makes sense^^ i would love to also shop for kitchen items and knifes, but maybe next time
Oh yeah you're definitely checking those lol
I didn’t even bother with buses and just called a taxi going to the train station when i was leaving 😂
I did use a taxi for a few hotel transfers
Unfortunately i picked the wrong exit to be dropped off at and had to haul my stuff down the stairs
Just because it was cheaper to get a taxi with my checked bag
than forwarding it
but this was just within Tokyo
i don't dare to use taxis with my limited Japanese xD I'm afraid of making them uncomfy
Yeah it was a short trip for me (like 10 mins by car) so it didn’t cost much
funny enough i do know a Japanese taxi driver that's having a blast to learn English xD i met him outside of his taxi though with his family
Nah you can just show them an address on google maps and 99% of the time they’ll be fine
it's much more expensive too though
last time i wasn't on budget, this time around i will be.. turns out travelling to Japan twice in one year is expensive
Yeah i wouldn’t take one if i didn’t need to. It works out to be worth it if you have more than 3 people over a short distance though.
And sometimes the extra cost justifies the inconvenience of having six suitcases
ah yeah, i travel alone, so it's pretty expensive if reachable by subway or bus
i am thinking about getting an international driving license for this time though, because i want to go to more rural places and it seems like a hassle to go by bus or taxi
Driving opens up a lot more places
BUT driving on the opposite side of the road
I would say it’s a necessity if you really want to go inaka
might as well just get one in case i dare 😄
If you’re still in osaka you still have time to live out your japan travel dreams 😂
Osaka is great tbf, people there are awesome and more outgoing
Osaka group been great so far, I just feel like everyone in server in Tokyo rn haha
Man i love kyoto but after 10 days of nearly no tourists i tired so quickly of the crowds
i much prefer Osaka to Tokyo, different crowd for sure
still no autumn colours?
there were some trees leaves different colors
I think i forgot to post this photo in this server
but definitely not peak
i may just picked peak by accident? i'll be there in 2 weeks
i could use some better temperatures. it's so foggy and cold here you only see white out of the window
Like i haven’t been able to wear a jacket the whole time i’ve been here
Unfortunately was 4 degrees when i left home so i’ve just had to carry a heavy jacket this whole time
Yeah, I had a very light sweater and I spent most of the day just carrying it
yeah i'm thinking about just bringing my light carhartt jacket and buying sweaters if needed
I brought 4 jackets with me lol
I think by the time you get here nights are gonna get pretty chilly
it's fine, when i get there, nights here will be colder and i will be used to it
It dropped as low as 4-7 degrees a few days ago around the kansai-chugoku area
i may as well get hot sake to warm up
Amazake season
first thing i'll buy is my japanese simcard with phone number
I arrived on August 22nd and stayed till 11/9. I realized this and packed some long sleeve shirts, a sweater, and a wool blazer
and I didn't wear them until my last 2 days in Japan
What a waste of space
only thing i plan on bringing is enough pants because my european ass surely doesn't fit into japanese ones
gladly they do love oversize though
depends on what you want to do i suppose^^
correct
Now if you were living there long term, than I can understand better.
it's just a whole different vibe
In which case I prefer Tokyo
I felt a bit less safe in Osaka
For live events, Tokyo is the heart of Japan
Not that it’s dangerous
If there's a concert or a music show happening in Japan, its going to be happening in Tokyo
and Tokyo being so centrally located and a major transport hub means getting anywhere easily and fast
ah i felt just right in Osaka, but maybe i'm one of the people that prefer more outgoing folks and a bit of crazy 😄
Yeah it’s definitely a bit more crazy lol
Seems like less rules
A bit dirtier
While Tokyo is very sanitised
yeah i agree
i didn't like the dirty part though. some parts are.. odd
but Osaka is also HUGE and there's so many areas
I saw Japanese people throwing their cigs on the floor in Osaka
ooh pretty
Never seen it on Tokyo
yeah i may have hung out with some of those
maybe Osaka needs some Singapore style no littering laws
maybe Osaka needs to stay as is?^^
Singapore has a million trash bins everywhere
:(
i don't like littering by any means, but Osaka is still fine. let them try to be international and unique
I wouldn't mind doing another week or two in Osaka
Maybe next trip, I'll do another 2-3 days in Osaka
I plan on going back for like 4 months
Alright, set up my 6 apps for booking tickets
i booked 3 or 4 days in Osaka besides just having to be there for a concert and meeting a friend, because I KNOW i will be stuck there either way
Have you not visited pretty much every place in Japan
i may or may not need to get tattooed in Osaka too xD
well depending on where you go in Tokyo, Osaka is tame
I was helping someone up who was seriously drunk on Friday
She collapsed on the bicycles lol
then i'm like yeowzers
Neither city is my fav, i try not to spend more time than i need to in either place
Every combini outside is a hangout spot to get drunk
Unfortunately most of my friends are in one or the other
police will just walk past blackout drunk people in Japan, i can't comprehend how.. but oh well
It isn’t a Friday without salarymen collapsed drunk on the side of the street
To be fair for Tokyo, it's easier to stay in neighbourhoods with less of it I guess
Time to figure out how to pack my luggage now with all this merch lmfao
Oh btw I can’t believe how thin the walls are between floors
The people above me bang about so much
they probably just hit their toes on corners?
Like it’s 1:30 and the person above me must be running a ducking marathon
Reminds me of last year when my neighbour happened to be drunk and violent 😔
It wasn’t every day but it was enough of a problem the police came around knocking on my door
oh no
There are a few small cities and towns I haven't been to yet. Plus I still got like another 30 onsen towns I need to go to
I did 10 ryokans this trip
May try for like 15-20 next one
8/10 ryokans were quite good. 2/10 I wouldn't go back to
I wish i had another onsen/ryokan on this leg of the trip tbh
Bro is going to be the most decorated ryokan traveller ever
I did 4 ryokans back to back and I thought that might have been too much
but it was an incredibly relaxing series of days
i never imagined i could visit japan, so my stupid ass said to a friend she can practice tattoos on me.. they turned out cool, but NOW i regret them badly
though the travel time between each one was long
I went to several ryokans that were tattoo friendly
because they had private baths
I ended up unespectedly getting three days of onsen at three different establishments but it was a stressful time because the reason for that was no running water at my accoms
yeahhh private is not in my budget rn sadly
No
Not in room private bath
Its private baths which are available to anyone
ohhh
I think yamatoya was ~30k per person for me?
Here's an excellent one I did
Not the top tier of ryokan but you do get a private in room bath with onsen water
昭和レトロ漂う群馬県四万温泉柏屋旅館では、3つの貸切露天風呂や地元食材の旬の味覚をご堪能ください。
28150 yen for a solo traveler
thanks for the recs
This place is very foreigner friendly. They have 5 baths
2 public baths, one for each gender. Then 3 private baths. First come, first serve
I wish i had an equal number of yamatoya pics to share but i only took one of the shishi-odoshi in the bathroom because i was so floored at having one inside my room 😂
nice! thanks! i'll pin it on my maps
i am baffled about how organised you are with your maps and pics btw
@tough storm
looks good^^ besides the orange deathstick (allergic to carrots
)
lol
I like to help people find good spots. Also like small towns to get more business
The view
that's great^^ much appreciated! i bet from both sides
looks like a nice area to explore and just walk around
and get lost and try to get reception or a local to bring you back xD
sounds perfect 🙂
and not too expensive
by now most of my pinned spots on maps in Japan are mostly your recs
28690 yen and that was with the fancier steak plan
and when I say fancy
I mean 200 grams of Tochigi sirloin
dud what is that on the end

THATS FLAVOR BOY
yeahhhh you can have it mane
Kidding aside, I don't eat that part
wheres my chicken nuggets
though I may cut a tiny tiny piece and combine it with another piece of meat to get some proper flavor
I got you
is that fat ?
it's fat cap, you can just leave it. but it will flavour the meat
so it's better left on while searing
mmm yeah makes sense
im used to the fat being marbled on lol this is a first
looks tasty tho if you look a little to the left more
im digging the one single pea
different cuts will have different fat distribution, it's a good sign if it comes with a fat cap^^
never had such a specific thin cut with fat cap either, but it looks a bit similar to an entrecôte from a more marbled piece of beef. so i assume it's super flavourful
Typically what I do is cut off tiny bits of fat from the fat cap
and then combine it with an actual piece of meat
That way you get a nice bit of flavor combination
It was a very good cut
That ryokan was excellent and probably my 2nd favorite one
looks good and sounds good^^
thinking about just buying waterproof makup for my tattoos and covering up to finally be able to go to onsen
but that would be cheating
wha? why?
it was iight, just the location, u gotta take 2 cable cars up and down the mountain
and then I had to leave early or I’d get stuck on the mountain
sounds like a hassle
I go onsen every night before I sleep lol
i may just go to a thermal bath before leaving to Japan to not feel left out
apa ftw
some sento are pretty wild
apa? the hotel chain?
ya
dormy inn goaated for baths
i assume also no tattoos allowed there
U can put on sticker to cover
all dormy inns have sento, some dormy inns have onsen
and the hotels provide flesh tone bandages
if it's apa no different view is allowed after all xD
they're small af always
they don't give out more than 2 usually
idk how big your tattoo(s) are
the one they gave me was actually too big for me 😂
peeled right off because it wouldn't stick around the curve of my arm
a little bit too big and wide spread to be covered with tiny stickers they give out xD
staff did ask how many i needed when i asked for one
my biggest ones are still considered small here, but they don't give out 25x25cm patches xD
oh sometimes they're okay with smaller tattoos, but the definition of small varies
Some APA have sentos
40.. onegaishimasu 🥲
I still need to go a sento…
My British prudishness about being nakie is difficult to get over
oh i used to live in Germany, being naked is fine
Yeah most EU places seem cool with it
yeah it's a non-issue here
You never get naked here though like that
we have mixed sauna all over the place
This is the entire reason i can’t go to onsen with my fam
I was in Takayama Ouan
Or enjoy onsen ryokan with the fam
and I saw a ton of Germans in the onsen there
My mom requires a private in room bath
I remember going Finland and they were all about the public steam rooms
Tbh Finland reminds me a lot of Japan…
that's a bit wild. i don't get why people would be ashamed of nudity really. it's just how people are, nothing sexual about it
Just a culture thing ig
Yeah. Everybody’s naked and just wanna relax in bath
Nobody cares about you and your nudity
I’m still gonna go sento though 😅
i couldn't care less who else is there. i want to relax and calm down, if someone thinks about sexual things i think it's an issue
they're in the wrong place then
I mean someone did stop to conpliment my hair once while i was getting naked for onsen and that was uncomfortable
i get how that would be uncomfy, it's not a place to look at people or make compliments of any sort
How about a place where there are just private baths open to anyone?
Its much cheaper to find a ryokan that has private baths for rent or just first come first serve
than it is to pay for one in the room
I booked a ryokan on our last trip with bookable private onsen
In room private onsens are exceedingly expensive
But my mom just doesn’t like shared bathroom facilities overall
She doesn’t even want to share a toilet with my dad if she can help it
She's paying for it right?
Yeah, again, that’s why i don’t really do ryokan with the fam
It’s rare to find one that fits all our requirements that isn’t like $800
how is your parents house set up if i may ask? 😅
We have 4 bathrooms
oh wild. fair then

i assume your parents have different bathroom etiquette xD
Yeah my dad is very chaotic and messy
makes sense then honestly
Japanese toilets with bidet and deorodirzing functions are an absolute godsend
idk, i'm more of a fan of the other asian bidets. japanese ones are so.. specific xD
if you push the wrong button you end up being surpised
You learn おしりfast
Bar psy
On a side note
The ipod mini 1st gen I picked up in a random hard off in Morioka
actually works
i have an ipod 2nd gen flying around that was found in a rental car and never claimed that still works.. it has bmw branding and photos of a random dude
Pic?
oh damn i have to dig through my old electronics box, but i will have to go to my construction place for it
i never used it since it felt wrong to use someone elses device, but i tried to boot it up last year and could still access everything
seems so, i never had one besides shuffle xD
it was stuck in a rental car in the trunk
maybe the guy on the pics is long dead and was also in the trunk?
it was not a mercedes rental car xD
it was in an audi
Boarding flight now, tokyo in ~11 hours 😭🙏🏼

Good morning November fam

Just finished packing before final meal at a Sushi Omakase before going back uwu
Short but fun trip!
How long were you here?
4 days 3 nights! I live in Singapore so it's a fast getaway
luckyyy
Anyone headed to Asakusa today?
Hell yeah
I'm in Asakusa, always down to hang out. However, I need to resume work around 5PM
anyone else sweating in trains
I think I’m built diff
Trains are sweaty asf
I'll probably head there later today
Hope you got some deo on bro
yes I do
Put om that clothing stuff u bought
I sprayed down my jacket with it
I gotta buy a hand towel
for situations like this
Do you guys not use perfumes or fragrances
I did brought a perfume but too strong to wear in train
I use deodorant and that’s it. If I go on a night out I’ll wear some aftershave
You shouldn't really wear strong fragrances in Japan
I have read Japanese people dislike it
Fragarances can be troublesome when eating
especially in high end places and in small eateries
They don’t really do anything to hide ur stink. You need to actually remove the stink at the source lol
Yeah really just shower twice a day
Once in the morning and once at night
and put on a light amount of deoderant
Just perfume yourself in yakitori grease so you don't stand out in eateries
Whee encountered racism in Japan on the train back from Kichijoji to Akihabara last night
what happened 😭
We were just minding our business on the train after a long day of walking, when a group of young Japanese punks alighted at a train station and just yelled FUCKING CHINESE
Bros didnt have the balls to even say it in the train lmfao
It's quite funny because our whole group consists of a Thai, A HongKonger and 2 Singaporeans lmfao
Not good 🥺
I was actually talking to my friends about it. Apparently a lot of Japanese people are upset with Chinese tourists because so many from China are rude and think money allows them to do whatever they want like they normally do in China
They told me to distinguish myself and show them I'm educated, and the Japanese will treat you with respect
They kinda need to realise that there's a lot of Chinese that are not from China as well lmfao
Hence why we dont talk in Chinese in Japan
I’m British born Chinese it worries me a bit 😅
Here we go
But so far I’ve not had any issues
Mostly grumpy older dudes, what do they call them again
Ojiisan?
ojisan: middle-aged guy
ojiisan: old man
ojisan aren't necessarily grumpy
There was a chinese tour group when we went to lalaport the other days and they left their food trays on the floor (why the fuck) or on the tables despite there being a tray return at every store and there being like 50 of them eating
looks like it's gonna be sunny in a few hrs woohoo
Poor food court cleaner had to collect them all
So its understandable honestly sometimes, there are alot that give everyone a bad rap
Same as americans and aussies
Want to grab something to eat?
Just like people who don't return their grocery carts
Do you like motsu? I know a very good, cheap outdoor stand
No idea what that is
Motsuyaki is like grilled organs, various meat parts. Hearts, livers, intestine, etc. I'm not sure if that's your cup of tea, but they also have other stuff. Also cheap drinks.
Nah, spray that eau de parfum
Where's that's i think I'm in the area.
I usually go to Nonki-ya. Hoppy-dori has become a tourist trap, and it's too expensive.
Chinese tours from China are the worst....
I'm like 5 mins from there but I got to be somewhere at 12pm.
They open at 12 it seems, I am very close
I'm still at my home, but I'm only about 5 mins away on my bicycle. I can come out in about an hour.
This is usually a legal thing too. 23kg is the limit for 1 person carry under EU health and safety laws so all airlines just default to it. 32kg is when bags usually go from bags to being cargo
Sure I am down. Will be wandering the area
Did all my packing today. At about 22kg on my checked bag so a bit tight to the 23kg limit
Wild how cheap clothes are here compared to the US
Depends what brands youre buying, plenty of high build quality brands to spend up on here, but yeah if youre on polyester sweatshop stuff like Uniqlo/GU its very cheap
Sweatshops keep the prices low
wait youre at 22kg before heading to japan?
how are you gonna buy anything
Maybe buying a second checked bag here?
22kg is tonnes to take on a trip
prices as low as the quality!
Sounds about right for my tax bracket
if you've got USD you can afford to support good japanese brands
What stores do you recommend, I'll check them out
No one said anything about strong, just eau de toilette sorta level lol. Plenty of shops in tokyo sell them too, miyashita park has like 4 shops lined up side by side and tons of japanese men/women bought too when i was there
Kapital ofc, lil cheaper Public Tokyo, Ive got a full list of stuff I recc but depends what style you like
Common misconception is that because stores sell it its okay, especially in a generally mid to high fashion area. Alot of it is consumed by either tourists or youth who spend time in those areas/well off people who travel alot.
I still use perfume every now and then but no where near as much as I did in Australia
Mostly prefer casual wear
Are you still at asakusa? Probably gonna take me 30 minutes to get there
Jeans are not casual?
I'd say they are
Planning on getting some food with @viral sapphire at noon, so you got some time
Ningyocho is so chill
Probably buy a second bag
ohhhh I thought you were saying it as if the ones I suggested werent casual haha
yeesh 22kg is so much to travel with
And/or leave items behind. But most likely buy one
I think my suitcase is usually 4kg when I go over
wtf are you bringing half your house
17 days so lots of clothes
I don't want to spend time doing lots of laundry (and I'll probably just hand it to the hotel anyway)
tbh you could almost slice the weight in half if you did a singular run of laundry half way
but you do you, tonnes of wasted weight though
So there's like 3 pair of jeans, 7 tracksuit pants, 6 tops, 2 jackets, a lot of tshirts, underwear and socks, 2 pairs of shoes, some shorts, toiletry/medicine bags, flip flops
And then the clothes I'm wearing on the plane
And tech stuff
Oh and like 6 NFL jerseys
I did a laundry load halfway through and I already threw away one of my less beloved sweatshirts to make more room
highly recommend bringing less if possible lol
7 tracksuit pants holy shit haha
I'll go through 2 tshirts a day most days if I'm walking a lot
doing laundry isn't hard
my hotel had machine that did wash and dry without needing to touch it in between
No, but it eats into time
set and forget
do you not plan on doing any shopping
Which I'll probably avail of for the tshirts
I do, I'll just likely buy a suitcase there
Probably not clothes shopping
But Pokemon stuff, yes
I really think you're gonna wish for more space, but you do you
it does not eat into much time really, shit doesnt open till 11/12 in Tokyo/Osaka quite often, since youre a first timer I assume youll be there alot
youve got plenty of time in the mornings
at most its an hour
anyway, my train just passed by a store, presumably a butcher, called MEATFLIX with a ripoff netflix logo
even less if its a combo machine
Tokyo and Kyoto, probably just day trip Osaka
Lmao nice
And pretty much everyone says to get to things stupidly early
There is nothing to get to stupidly early in Tokyo
DisneySea?
sure if you wanna join the hoarde line at opening
Technically not in Tokyo I guess
we went an hour after opening and walked straight in
I’ll be there in 10
And again not in Tokyo but my transport to Hakone and Kawaguchiko is also really early
How much stuff do people usually buy?
Outside of clothes
That was 2 seperate trips, not inc clothes/shoes
Last year my checked bag was full of manga and gacha stuff
Damn, I just travel with a 40L backpack
I don't know what most of that is 😂
Just loads of films, some toys/models and some manga?
Oh some games
Whoever Garo is does look pretty cool
Belts and Figures yeah
I don't really collect that stuff so I feel like I'm not going to run into the same issues of space there
If youre not buying any souvenirs at all youll be fine
or only keychains
but if you purchase anything of size, youre likely going to run into issues
What the, there's a long line at McDonalds
Thats about how much I pack for 3 weeks
and gift box got given away straight away to partners parents so even less
I'm more likely to buy a fragrance there, maybe have a look at watches, some gifts, sweets, and a few random stuff for myself (probably Pokemon)
I'm not sure id survive 😂
Looks like a weekend trip
Looks more than me tbh and I'm here for a month
I barely packed anything
Like id probably bring 5 tshirts if I was going to London for a 2 night trip
1 pants in the suitcase, 1 being worn
1 jacket worn, 1 in suitcase
6 t-shirts and 1 being worn
6 undies and 1 being worn
5 socks
Wash once a week, takes about an hour, ez
My carry on for like a 2 night trip would be 3 tracksuit pants, 1 pair of jeans, 2 tops, 5 tshirts, 3 underwear and 3 socks. Then what I have on me
fair enough if you shit youself often
Youre coming in Winter
I'm Irish, the temps look like summer weather to me
I've seen late teen temperatures on the forecast which is a nice summers day to me
I dont pay into any of that sorta thing, Im from a historically hot area so I should be freezing in japan winter, but under 10c is still t-shirt and shorts for me
yoo same here! travel light, and bring back as much goodies as possible
