I would get saddle soap or a leather cleaner. Use the bathroom scrubber to clean it well. LET IT DRY COMPLETELY. then you can use a boot cream with a brush (horsehair) that will keep the leather closest to how you bought it. Mink oil works very well (put on gloves and rub it in your hand to warm it up, spread over leather) or you could boot oil on with a paintbrush

Id go towards mink oil or a boot cream before boot oil though. Make sure you get a neutral cream (they're white) unless you can find the cream specifically designed for restoring the color

IE: redwing oxblood conditioner is for the oxblood color boots
