if you want a slightly higher rated curry place that isnt on every other corner, ive heard good things about joto curry
that being said ive never tried it before
but coco is like THE staple curry to have imo in japan
it mgiht be everywhere but i swear by their quality (and price)
really ah
yea
coco curry is the curry to not miss?
at least in my opinion
ok I've got to try out coco curry and ichiran ramen
is it fast food?
Wagyu Itaden for Osaka near dotonburi too
- its easy to find, its literally on every other corner
- its really, really, good
- its cheap
Heard good things
nice list! will use it as a guideline
gonna give it a try
only had monster curry
in abudance in sg

its like a baseline for curry, kinda like how ichiran ramen is for ramen
ayee
its litearlly available anywhere and everywhere
supper spot?!?!
supper, breakfast, lunch, dinner
My friend ate this every single day. Every day, without fail. He was addicted to that shit lmao
I guess I’d give it a gold star lol
so i heard for wagyu places, if they dont have the gold plaque infront of their restaurant, its not legit wagyu?
like some kind of cert. or something
yea, coco isnt like a delicacy restaurant you need to queue for
but its actually good comfort food
I spend my days roaming the streets eating the most random back door places I can find
the best way to explain is that its like its a matsuya or a sukiya for gyuudons, but this is for curry
pork rib ramen
i dont even think its famous
let me see if i can find it, i remember its near den den town
what about yoshinoya, is that place good?
its "alright", its a 24h spot that you can have a meal at anytime (again, comfort food)
but in my opinion sukiya is much better
but for these sorta 24h don places id just go to whichever is closest to my accoms
cause thats what they're for

i wouldny specifically seek one out if that makes sense
yo let usknow the location if u remember it
gonna put it in my food map
If you want legit Korean fried chicken chain check out bbq olive chicken
it’s so crack
osaka is set for food
if anyone wants a food map lmk!
you have a list i can nab?
sureee! it's not by me by the way. Someone ate at the restaurants and put their favourites on the map
If you go to Kyoto check out this place called Gyukatsu Motomura, it has a nice view along the river and the food is legit
shared by@oak gazelle
im trying to find it but
might not even exist anymore cause i was last there before covid
but if you need more osaka stuff lmk
gtukatsu motomura they have locations in Tokyo too
not that i have a lot to recommend but
Thanks vro! I looked at it
It’s super popular
Can u send me the link
About to be there for 8 days
Gotta maximise lol
whatever you do just dont go to ichiran at dotonbori
like if you really want to try ichiran go somewhere else where its not that crowded
I’m sure u got hella places already but if you want places lmk.. mostly around Tokyo but i saved a couple places when i went to Osaka
I will pay more to avoid 😂
Can I … have this too?
🤦♂️ y’all are better foodies than me 😭
holy shit how long are you there for
😂
I go a couple times a year 😱
that makes sense
yo g mind sharing of that good stuff
please
It's almost the netire of japan for this list

Lifesaver
Thank u
I’ve been going to too much yakiniku
I’m done 😂
Only had ramen once Pahaha

I have some personal info saved on my list but I’ll fix it a little n send it tmrw jus shoot me a dm so I don’t forget
Course thanks
I had an all you can eat in Nagano
Took the wagyu option
Had 9 courses of it
😂😂
It was awesome
I much prefer it to the more like bougie spots … if I’m honest
How much was the bill?!?!
6k
Not terrible lol
Unlimited rice and miso ofc
And sides
Like kimchi etc
(You had a choice of stuff)
i had matsusaka beef from Matsusakagyu Yakiniku M in osaka, it was amazing
i think i prefer it over kobe
Ohh I’ll check it out
If you couldn’t tell … I consume fuck loads of beef
it was bit pricey I think it was like 15 course meal lol
whats the price so we can get a perspective
Like 14k-22k pricey
Or 8-12
I gotta check it’s been awhile
That’s decently priced
but around 10k
It’s not going to be under 10
Oh that’s … ye good
yeah thats fine
I’ll probably hit it up
Oh ye completely
I’m that guy that finishes his day before dinner by checking his budget and seeing how much I can spend on my meal lol
6k was yday
松阪牛焼肉 M
The best restaurant for beef lover
Quality of meat at the best price that can be provided only by MATSUSAKA BEEF SPECIALTY RESTAURANT.
00:00 intro
01:51 Menu
05:21 Beef Tongue
05:54 Chateaubriand Steak
06:18 Sirloin Steak
06:45 Yaki-Sukiyaki sirloin
08:08 Tenderloin
08:38 Chunk Flap
09:04 Short-Rib
09:38 Bottom Sirloin Flap
09:51 Cold ...
Unless it’s a 10k+ spot in which case I plan
Gonna try and get a res for this
Oh damn it. It’s 2 ppl min
It’s just generic Japanese curry
If you check my list, there many far superior places
I consent better as well
Gyukatsu motomura is overrated tbh, plenty of places do that now without the line
Ichiran sucks ass
I can’t say it’s bad because I’ve never had it lol
Ive had it at a popular one and one of the originals in fukuoka, both times bad
@spiral latch also RE nujabes brother's ramen, if you want to avoid a line, there's a second one people dont often go to
just gonna try it once..
can't seem to find your list. Do you mind sharing it here?
oh lmao ur list is suzy kendrick
I've been sharing it here
If you want to, but its bad
thank you!
I didn't try as many of these as I'd like last time, but my favorite that I did try was Beetle in Harajuku
Nvm I missed that you go a few times a year, and have a map of restaurants lol
(29M) Planning to go to Disneyland on the Nov 25th and DisneySea on 26th. It'll be my first time there. If anyone is down to meet up and help me explore let me know!
I will also be going to Hakone, Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe solo as well. Trying to find other folks to meet and explore with to make my first trip to Japan even more memorable! - Still figuring out my itinerary
Do you have a restaurant name for us 👀
nearly every yakiniku worth its salt offers all you can eat
Oh? Somehow missed yakuniku completely during my last trip. Gonna be planning my restaurants better in advance for this trip, will have to find at least one of those to check out
No worries. Japaneat has some great reccs.
Very much reccomend Nihon Aburato for Abura Soba. Tried it from his video recc and it was great
i should just watch all his videos lol
Haha yeah
Was gonna say. Haha I just liked the price / quantity and quality ratio
ayo sick i didnt know they had a branch
thanks for this
Yo I wanna try thisss
Big Nujabes fan
It's dangerous 😂
On the bright side, going to pachinko parlours means you dont need an itinerary
Cause you’ll spend your entire trip in there
Hey, I could be in Nagoya for the 18th... are you still planning to do this?
yep will still be doing this, but the day trip would be on 19th
planning on tackling cherry blossoms in morning and korenge gorge in afternoon for lighting
by car? I can't drive but I'd split the days costs with you if you were interested
that sounds good, were you also planning on going to korankei?
Was interested, but PT was limiting me 😄
theres a direct bus from Obara Shikizakura Four-Season Cherry Blossom to korankei from what I've searched
oh, I hadn't found that
One Day Bus Tour to Korankei. You can also see seasonal Sakura, as well as beautiful colorful leaves!
but maybe a taxi would be much faster... sounds like a better idea
yeah that looks like what I saw
but I wasn't planning on joining the tour
Might of changed though, so looking into it...
I also found #1287469064947634226 message - someone who is driving on the 19th. We could see if they wanna split rental 3 ways 😛
yo thats crazy, literally my plan haha
do you drive yourself?
I do have a license but no international permit
wasn't planning on doing any driving in Japan
yeah cant blame you, plenty to do on a first trip with PT only
heard japan's public transport is too good to pass
as a whole it's amazing (espc for a kiwi), but there are lots of things that become a whole lot more possible with a car...
I'm building my list of TODO: with car - stuff like east/central Kyushu, more Shikoku, Hokkaido
thats true, I do want to visit more offbeaten areas - maybe I'll plan for a car next time I visit Japan. Kyushu and Hokkaido seems really awesome to visit but had to skip those for my first visit.
Kyushu is 10/10 would reccomend
so there's a small rural taxi services running out of both Obara and Korankei - wonder if we could book something via a hotel...
Kyushu is the best
Definitely pains me to skip haha
I just found this sample itinerary from 2019 @regal hill
Here's sample itinerary for your tour from Nagoya as below:
・ Meitestsu Nagoya Station(9:33)→Toyotashi Station(10:29) by Meitetsu Railway
・ Toyotashi Bus Stop(10:40)→Obara-Okusa Bus Stop(11:48) by Toyota-oiden Bus
・ Obara-Fureaikoen(14:10 for weekday;14:30 for weekend)→Korankei(15:00 for weekday;15:20 for weekend) by Korankei-Obara-Shikisakura Bus from November 10 to 30(This bus time table is based on 2019, however there should be same bus service during the season)
・ Korankei Bus Stop(20:42)→Toyotashi Bus Stop(21:28) by Meitetsu Bus
・Toyotashi Station(21:45)→Meitetsu Nagoya Station(22:38) by Meitetsu Railway
Please be noted that there may be slight changes in time tables after October.
now how to figure out information on the Korankei-Obara-Shikisakura Bus :D
"Here's sample itinerary for your tour from Nagoya as below:" - this sets off my chatgpt alarm bells 😛
Japan Question Forum: 1 day for Korankei and Obara Shikizakura?.
its actually from here
I think it's cause I've seen chatgpt use wording like "Here's a sample itinerary for a 2 day tour of X and Y: pure bullshit"
I vouch for Coco Ichibanya curry it's delish 🤤
Although I would like to try joto curry
Chains (except ichiran) are worth trying once
Coco is a chain but no curry place in the UK comes close it's embarrassing
And the prices are way higher here
Hence why I mentioned chains
oh btw @hallow narwhal - you mentioned visiting Nikko on the 25th, wouldn't all the foliage be gone by then?
yeah I ended up deciding against going there since it felt too rushed and Nikko seems to have too many areas to explore in 1 day. Decided to go to Shiobara Onsen area instead
have you posted your itinerary anywhere? Maybe there's a couple of other places we overlap
not my full itinerary but my cities are here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QcDrFx73oelW-7Qyz3j29Brdnl3TAzsCoMyo5lRerwI/edit?gid=1698497392#gid=1698497392
and then 2-8 in tokyo
I'm Osaka 7-15, then Hikone for a day of biking around Biwa, then Nagoya 17 and still planning after that although it will most likely all be Kanto into early Dec
sounds great, heard Minoh falls (also their brewery beer is quite well known) is a good day trip from Osaka if you're interested in it, I was planning on going to it on the 17th so slightly missed you haha
I have a rough idea of some of the things I want to do from Osaka, but my plan rn is get the hotel bookings in before prices go even more crazy and sort out day trips after that 🤣
Good luck! Kyoto was soo expensive compared to the other cities
and theres also the city tax after ☠️
what's your avg / night looking like?
for osaka?
overall
I've booked a few pricey ryokans which might skewer the prices, also going with +1 (twin beds) so that'll bring the prices down a bit
I need to recalc, recently switched a couple of hotels and havent updated my spreadsheet
around 129AUD night pp (no bed sharing + private bathroom), curious to know if I'm paying too much ☠️
how far ahead did you book?
honestly changed bookings quite a number of times but I noticed the prices started to spike a couple weeks ago
but yeah early bookings really bring the prices down or if youre lucky last minute bookings 🔥
that price tracks for me - I'm struggling to find places under 150NZD/night ($135AUD) for weeknights
maybe next trip I'll book waaay ahead lol, but this trip is kinda last minute because I'm just so burned out at work 💀
how many star hotels are you looking for?
hmm I don't really pay attention to the stars lol. Looks like 3 star buisiness is about my default
the sane decision
col is insane here tho
I'm tempted to go live in melb or smth for a couple months and try to land remote work then move back lol
maybe after this tech hiring drought
ye cybersec
data eng here :)
oh ye my employer is only hiring seniors rn 💀
ngl im sooo glad i dont have to deal with the stuff juniors have to go through to get hired these days
like I reckon this hiring drought will pass in the next 6months for ppl with experience, but its gonna stay sucky for people trying to enter tech
yeah swear to god uni discords are full-on doomer mode rn
i wouldnt recommend uni to many people these days
better to self teach for a year, then start on the service desk and try to move into dev/test/cyber/etc. internally
although a degree can still open doors that are really hard to otherwise
maybe the play is SD + degree 🙃
its better to jsut self study get IT certs instead of going to uni imo...
yeah certs or a kickass portfolio (or both)
it'll bounce back
good luck getting on a service desk, industry is back into the part of the cycle where they think its good to offshore
DO NOT REDEEM
Sorry.
DO NOT OFFSHORE
Where was this so I can completely avoid this area
I also work in IT (data architect). I disagree on the not studying though. Maybe different elsewhere, but you're not getting past HR without a degree here
And so many candidates now too
Muko city so it wasn't near any tourist areas. I just like to go off in random directions
Anyone ever have a dream where you make it all the way to airport only to realize you forgot your passport? Lmao that was me last night
no but one time i did realize that i didnt have it 1.5 hours into a 12 hour road trip to canada. couldve been a lot worse lol
Crosses that off the list
We were safe there was a path. Just stayed off the grass
Maybe a bit of a weird question (kinda), but would anyone be interested in going to a shisha bar over the first 2 weeks of nov?
i see this particular chain (Shisha Cafe & Bar C.STAND) being mentioned a lot in previous monthly threads so i assume its a fairly popular place for shisha and drinks
I'm down for a shisha bar
Seeing one would probably give me a heart attack, so I'll just pray I don't see one
Apparently they can be in Yoyogi Park too
This is about to be the longest work week ever 😩
I just want to hop on my plane
Also thinking about hitting up Gonpachi at some point (the restaurant from kill bill that Lucy Liu runs) if anyones interested
Open till 5 am. Might be a good way to kill time waiting for first train
We be dodging sneks
I have two weeks left 😞
Thankfully my boss is off until next Wednesday now so I'm gonna spend it learning more Japanese
i also have 2 more weeks, im supposed to have a new hire start shadowing me soon which sucks because im currently in the head-empty-doing-nothing phase of vacation anticipation
24 hours for me
mine last night was that I overslept, I almost woke up crying LMAO
I've got 12 more work days
And then off for 4 weeks as taking time after Japan to recover
post-trip depression is so real 🙂↕️
I'm pretty certain it'll be more how sore my feet are and how tired I am
Got the new Stormlight Archive book to help with the post trip depression
Also Gladiator 2
And best thing to do, start planning the next trip
I go back to work the day after I come back home 🥹
But I guess it won't be too bad considering I'm remote
Also yes, I already have rough dates for 3 trips next year LOL
my friend who's a really huge ghibli fan has been making me watch more ghibli movies in preparation. he had a nightmare that we tried to watch boy and the heron but for some reason the animation was super terrible
Oof
I'm taking a week off as had days to use. Back the 1st but not back to work until 9th
Wish I did longer in Japan at this point as ended up doing nothing with a few days
im also going back to work right after flying in on a sunday night. if i had more days off i would just use them to stay longer
|| story sucks ||
||i dont think i would say it sucks, but its definitely not the strongest||
reading this made my chest hurt LOL
|| it’s just tough because when you compare it, the other movies are masterpieces ||
There’s a hookah lounge in Shibuya next to a brewery tap room I wanna check out, if you’re down I can send a link. They tend to be open pretty late
I land at home at 2pm but I only work 3.5 hrs the next day
Ya, ideally I'd have done that but thought I'd have gone somewhere else for a few days
Ideally would have gone used 3/4 days and done another trip this year
Dude me too
I'm about to leave here and next week I have to spend it teaching the new guy. I absolutely can't be bothered 😭
|| I would say it definitely sucks in comparison. I get what he was going for and what he wanted it to be, but there was SO MUCH shit that either came out of nowhere or were never referenced again. At one point I was thinking hideo Kojima makes more sense than this movie. Never had I had trouble following a ghibli movie.
This shit was a train wreck.
But very pretty and the voice acting was good. ||
|| "but you're going to die horribly in a fire" -> "thats ok, i like fire" is an incredibly funny exchange. loved that bit||
|| Writing at its absolute peak.🤣 I think that's when my gf looked at me (not a big animation person and I was HYPED on this movie) with just the most blank state I've ever seen. ||
I joke with my coworkers that nobody needs a vacation quite like someone who just came back.
Luckily I fly in on Friday n don't work till Tuesday... but still..
Ya, very true. Vacation where you sit by the pool or beach is grand but when you're walking a load every day, you be half dead by the end
|| well said ||
flying home on a sunday night and working monday isnt that bad, on my last big vacation i had a 12 hour layover where i brought my laptop and did a remote workday 💀
How long is your flight home?
I'm about 20 hours probably from leaving hotel to arriving home
And the flight back seems to go up over Alaska and Canada and down to Europe so going to be worse for jetlag I think
12
People that can take like a whole month off work make me jealous NGL lol
I'll be in for 10 days and that's already more than pretty much everyone else at my job takes off at a time. The 17 hour flights barely feel worth it
i wfh too and go back to work the day after i land 😅
but it be thanksgiving week so for sure not alot of works gonna be done haha
I can't do the 14 hour flight for 2 weeks it's not worth it for me
You spend 3 days getting used to the new time zone
So I noticed i had NO pto after 2 years with my current company. Reached out to em and since I have a rather unique contract they say they forgot to allow my PTO to accrue so they going to retro it and I'll see it on the next paycheck.
Boom. 110 hours of PTO.
Within a week I went to cash in 80 of them and they just surprised Pikachu face me.
That was February (1st trip to japan)
Just cashed in another 80 for this next trip.
Half the guys here will just cash in their pto and let it get taxed out the wazoo. Like... at least go exempt that paycheck otherwise you're losing money.
I'm definitely not an /antiwork person but I feel like a handful of more people need to demand mutual respect from their employer. If I have PTO and sick time... I will use them
same. gonna be a terrible week lol
I'm doing 13 hrs for 9 days, but I can adjust pretty quickly. Benadryl on the plane to sleep. Coffee to stay awake. Alcohol to pass out at 8 pm local time 1st day.
Even if in a little hungover, I'm up at 6 in the morning n ready for the day
The secret kids, is drugs
11 hr flight and 16 hr time difference for me
Going out the night I land bc homegirl is turning 30 then I have 3 appts the next day because I also only have 9 days to make the most of it
Drugs are def the vibe
Also insomnia
It can work if you fall asleep early and wake up at the right time
PTO sucks, why can’t i just leave for japan for 2 months and still get paid 💔
or you can get a job here and earn yen instead xd
||If you interpret it as an allegory for miyazaki’s relationship with ghibli and his son it makes a lot more sense. But also iirc they were giving us a world that was fantastical and also wasn’t supposed to make sense. The source material itself is also very much an exercise in philosophical debate so if anything it’s even drier and more esoteric than the film. ||
I relate to this so much lmao
The only things I'm really looking forward to prior to Japan is watching Look Back and then Thom Yorke live
Everything else is just working but brain switched off lmao
LETS GOOO!!
This is the day we're meeting in shimo
It's in the evening so when you head to your show we're heading down to shibuya
Cool cool!!
Speaking of which,
@rancid warren @ionic wave

What date you guys planning this for?
I have 35 days holidays a year (not counting bank holidays, sick leave or 2 days of wellbeing leave we get)
Makes it handy for travel
Wish I did another 2 to 3 here though
Nothing set in stone yet.
Cool. Any rough dates floating around?
I'm busy Halloween night. The 4th were doing a jazz bar hop if you want to go. 5th there's a concert im going to with someone else in chat. So I'd imagine 2nd 3rd 6th or 7th. (At least those are the days that work best for me.
Ahh ok, I'm in Tokyo between the 14th and 19th, so probably not possible for me haha.
Hey no reason you can setup another group
It's not even November n the channel is at 5.5k messages. Seems like it'll be a busy month with plenty of meet-ups
Yeah I was thinking to, not a bad shout.
Yeah def
Just noticed MAMA is on in Osaka on 22nd and 23rd and G-Dragon was announced as a performer today
The temptation to try and get a ticket is high
Begging your pardon, G DRAGON?????
Yup
He's meant to be having a comeback
Some rumours there could be a G Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung performance
i’ll be in Tokyo starting on the 17th and am down to do something! feel free to DM me whenever
We could go after the show on the 5th?
I'd say go if you can tbh, even if it was just GD I'm sure that performance would be insane
Ya, it is quite tempting
Planning to go to either one of these.
If anyone wants to tag along, feel free to react with the date(s) you'd be available!
Also open to other reccs/alternatives.

“You know, I’d like to go to a bar that makes me stand the whole time.”
Possibly 19
Lol just messin’ 😆
Probably have to get up at 6am for Hakone and Kawaguchiko so not trying to head out the night before those
Not young enough anymore for that attempt
Nemo Bar Asakusa.
November is so soon.. excited to hit up WARP and Zero Tokyo lmao
google says night clubs?
Yes
tfw theres so many 😂 im down if you guys want to over the first two weeks @night gazelle @rancid warren
down for those dates too, but i go back on the 17th! If you want, you can run through the sheet and tag whoever's in tokyo on those dates 😂
@earnest prairie tagging you as well since you mentioned me yesterday ^
It is overwhelming, yes lol
I couldn’t get pokemon cafe tickets 😦 so planning to go to Enoshima (and most likely Kamakura) on the 18th if anyone wants to join
A far better use of your day
you should most definitely check out kamakura too!! i just finished planning my own day trip, but the focus is on kamakura instead of enoshima 😂
Have not heard of kamakura, very temply. Seems peaceful
Yes temply is the word hehe
Ooh ok DEFINITELY Kamakura then xD some of the shrines and hikes o:
@feral topaz that’s the same day I’m doing kamakura / enoshima
was gonna do somethin like
kamakura / enoshima
- ride the monorail (cool sky train)
- big budda
- enoshima aquarium
- enoshima island
- Iwaya bridge / iwaya caves
- enoshima shrine
- nakamise street
- tiktok train ocean spot slam dunk
- yuigahama beach / katase higashihama beach
- hokokoji bamboo forest
- komachi dori street
- hachimangu shrine
- hasedera shrine
- zeniarai benten shrine (wash your monies for good luck)
- Cafe: Inamura Blue Ocean イナムラブルーオーシャン
yea there's TONS to see in kamakura (as you can see from @spiral latch's post).
I have around the same sort of itinerary as seiya tbh, but flipped around cause ill start at kita-kamakura first.
lmk if you need more help with plannig out kamakura! (i havent been there yet, but ive asked in #planning-and-itineraries from mushroom a few times hehe)
Holy there is alot o:! I was watching youtube just now on Kamakura and Enoshima xD
Thank you!!
Whoaaah ok lemme do some homework but maybe if it works out o: and you don’t mind 3 more ppl, we can go as a group!
Thanks! Planning to go to kamakura too so gonna use this as template. Gonna give kawaguchiko trip a visit another time
Omg you have to go to Kawaguchiko >.< it’s magical

I wanna see mount fuji too

Okay see the weather for fuji san
I’ve been there twice and planning to go back a third time! So much to see >:3
If fuji san isnt shy I’ll go kawaguchiko
Yay that’s the spirit!
Since I’m heading to kyoto so I wouldn’t miss the temples in kamakura as much
Yeah it all depends on weather. I went back in May just to see it and it rained .__. For 3 days but the last day it was amazing
aw man.. glad fuji-san appeared on your last day
When to See Mt. Fuji?
using this website to track the weather
day trip would be wasted if fuji isnt visible
For a day trip, is it important to leave early morning or it doesn’t matter? Getting Fuji express tickets for afternoon on my dates
Hmm it really depends on what you want to do/anything else planned/feel like… but I would say early. Sunsets around 4 or 5 😦
Did you head with a your group or by yourself?
I went by myself for hakone stuff, but really only went for the Eva store
Ya, doing Hakone myself as that one seems easy. Kawaguchiko seems more spread out though
And whilst I'm sure it's different in Japan, I'm not used to buses being reliable
I'm still 50-50 on my Hakone visit!
Planning to visit on the 8th but if I'm too tired, I'll just chill in Tokyo lol
ooooh i just realised if anyone here watches baseball or at least keeps up with Shohei Ohtani
if the MLB World Series goes down to game 7/8, it will be on Nov 2nd or 3rd

Games are at a shite time in Japan though
If it was timed well, those would be good nights

oooh if game 6 happens on 2nd nov ill literally touch down in tokyo an hour into the game
Fr. Impossible to watch hockey as well. 2:00am nfl games are good though
I would be down to have pints and watch World Series in the morning tho
NFL games be like 3, 6.30 and 10.30 I think in November as no daylight savings
nvm im stupid, yes you can see pinned messages in threads but its hidden in the settings option
Ya, discord gets odd. Some times it's in one area and other times it's in another
Hi everyone! just jumping on and seeing if anyone would like to go to the teamlabs exhibit in tokyo 🙂
I'm travelling solo but it'd be nice to go to the exhibit with someone 😂
Which one? I’ve been to planet last year and it was amazing but I hear there’s another one now. Might be keen to go but depends on when? this is the nov thread 👀
I'm keen for either one or both 😂 I'll be in tokyo at the end of november
what dates would you be there?
Cool weather lovers rejoice, the seasonal weather is now finally setting in.
I’ll be back 14-16th
I’m here already
perfect timing, i'll be in tokyo then! I'll be taking an overnight bus from osaka on the 26th. What time are you planning on going?
clear sky lovers are despairing though
im not worried, surely the forecast a full week out is wrong
I have a ticket for 10-10.30am atm
I'll be going to Planets on 29th for 09-09:30
that might work! I'll have to quickly drop off my luggage but i could probably make it on time
I can probably slightly change my time if needed as think I can do that up to 3 times
I'll DM you ☺️
Luckily I arrive right after the rain stops 😌
Tbf bar the day that says rain, that doesn't seem so bad
Light rain and showers is fine
Like a nice summer's day here in Ireland
Some of those days are even warmer than our summer
I literally woke up from a dream tonight where I lost my connecting flight and ended up stuck in Singapore 😭
Yesss, let's grab dinner?
I hope it doesn’t rain any time in November
I'm not that positive about it hah
my whole itinerary will be ruined
asking for zero rain in an entire month is pretty bold
jk rain or shine, my 7/11 clear umbrella will protect me
I’m down but I think my only free day is nov 5th
What time of the day were you thinking?
that 18 hour flight gonna be baller
14 for me. im sure ill get a really bad pressure headache 👍
6 hours for me, tbh not sure if I can handle it despite being a short one
i still have some nasorhinathiol from my last trip so ill use that to try and not die (portuguese nasal decongestant spray lol)
I only have about 2 weeks left in Japan
Cabin Pressure makes you have headaches?
Where are you going to be at for the remainder of the trip?
yup
i think my sinuses might be broken. i should probably ask a doctor at some point
Does sleeping during the flight help?

LEAVE JAPAN
last time i fixed it by going in the bathroom and putting hot wet napkins on my face
Raw dog that whole flight
one month from now for me, my schedule still is wonky af
it looks like i just go back and forth all the time
i should book hotels and domestic flights (if only i could decide where to hang out)
Last 2 weeks is tokyo
Only a few daysin Tokyo
We’re leaving on the same day too
See ya at narita airport mrt
I'm hopping around a lot
Wait
What time?
5pm flight
Where?
Yeah
seat neighbours?

My bus arrives at 3:05 PM
Hit me up when you are there
and I'll bring you into the ANA first class lounge with me
Sure
Let’s go
First class lounge sounds sick
So if you want to get some sushi and curry before your flight you can
Wait can I even go in
you can bring guests into lounges
Only ANA First class passengers are allowed to bring guests
does priority pass work in haneda?
Yes
MrT being generous
but it doesn't work for ANA business lounges if you're wondering
They discontinued that a few years ago
ahh cool, I just got a venture x card
For HND they have these simple lounges - https://www.prioritypass.com/lounges/japan/tokyo-haneda-intl
With several lounges at Tokyo Haneda Intl Priority Pass customers can refuel, refresh and reconnect before the flight.
Basically just some free drinks and a quiet spot
But they fairly crowded
Sometimes they have food
Unfortunately the ANA F lounge isn't amazing, but its at least better than sitting in the terminal
quiet spot but fairly crowded.. only works in Japan, doesn't it?
and you can at least order a lot of food
Thanks mrt! I’ll hit you up when I’m there
They have a pretty big dine on demand menu
What sort of snacks?
Like chips, kaya jam, salted egg fish skin and bak kwa
Interesting. Maybe. Depends on if I have any room lol
@gloomy juniper Ah here's the menu for the ANA F lounge
Gotta get ya to try some in person then

Swear it’s delish
lol
but yeah
ANA F is allowed to bring in one guest. I'm fairly certain you don't have to be on the same flight and they don't check or care anyways
the lounge should be somewhat quiet since its only ANA F passengers and their guests
The business lounge gets really loud and packed
I'll be at the airport at 3:05 PM
I should be through security and immigration by like 3:15 PM
It only takes me about 1 minute to get through security and immigration
The long part is me having the ANA check in agents making sure my bags are forwarded to my next flight
Sure! I’ll check in earlier than you so I can wait for ya at ana lounge
Sounds good
Not for a long time
sweet and savory types
fruit is always a big one
dried fruit especially
@gloomy juniper ah here's the airport map
Omg okay I have some ideas of what to get
Any no no fruits?
Also, do you eat pork?
I'm partial to sweet fruits
I eat pretty much everything lol
don't worry I'm not too food picky
but yeah I figured I'd get you in so you can relax a little before your flight

And I appreciate it a lot
and the hamburg steak is fairly good
Will be my first time in one too
so is the curry
making me regret that i spent the last time in the smokers cabin instead of a lounge when i had access
Sadly the ANA NRT F lounge isn't as good as the HND one
HND one is way nicer and like 3x the size
but of one particular note
the ANA F HND lounge has its own showers that they don't share with the business class lounge
Can’t wait to try em all
In NRT, the F and J lounges share the showers
though the ANA agents give priority to the F passengers over the J ones
Last time I was there in July
I had like 30 minutes before boarding. I wanted to take a shower, but I saw the wait was like 90 minutes.
i need to fly more and collect more miles
so I decided not to
but then an ANA staff member came over to ask me if I wanted a shower
and she would get me in immediately
Went over to the machine, used her ANA staff code, and got me an instant shower
Wow first class has a lot of amenities
Comes with the price

Sadly its not as good as the JAL F lounge
If we were in the JAL F lounge
they have a sushi bar there with chefs
It’s cool though
You can sit and order sushi made in front of you
You’re the first person I know taking firsr class
and of course all the food is free
They also have some good alcohol for free too
if you're keen to sample that stuff
are you sure you're just first class and not a sky marshall? 😅
lol
Its my last flight for awhile
I won't be back to Japan till June 2025
I can't even enter the country again till 2025 😄
nooooo!! all of the days already spent for the visa?
Not a visa issue per se, more of a tax issue
you're only allowed to stay 180 days per year
11/9 is my 180
oh fair! right. had this convo earlier with my coworker about the tax issue
Ayo sugoi
Gotta try some!
Again thank you so mrT
Gonna try out the seafood reco too once I hit kamakura
do us all a favour and at least post food pics from the first class lounge for us plebs while there 😆
Np. Just remember to ping me when you're at the airport.
I'll ping you when I arrive.
Etooo I’m a peasant too
ANA F has their own special checkin area in NRT
will change my linkedin to "open for remote jobs" now
so its virtually instant
but we other peasants want to partake
Sure I’ll take some good photos
Heck if I could do a takeaway I’ll bring some to my flight

can you not if already past security? they may dump it at arrival though
I’m not sure how first class lounge works tbh
Sounds like made to order or buffet style
how big is your purse?
Big enough for a mcdonaldo meal

just ask for more napkins.. or.. you know it in advance, right? time to pack ziplocks!
Ziplock food?? u bet I have some to sneak food to not pay for inflight meals
Tru plebs

Woaaah another generous traveller

@silk python ur turn!!
haha! i've never done it. i try to not admit it, but i think i'm scared of flying, so my main course before and on flight is alcohol
Unless it’s country specific you can bring outside food on the plane :0
I’ve brought cooler bags full of poké home and there were no issues
i'm afraid not, i'm landing at HND only on Nov 23 😄
international flights seem pretty strict, so i usually avoid anything related to food. but i want to bring snacks from my country for friends in Japan. I'm still unsure what to buy though^^
I hope your flights aren’t too long but props to you for still flying
Ahhh makes sense, last time I flew internationally was in 2017 hahaha
17hrs flight including a short stop and excluding time to go to airport or be there
it's literally a 24hr trip for me 🫠 for the 2nd time this year
well worth it though imo
Indonesia was worse, i had 23hrs of flight and on the way back even a 4 hour delay.
For mine you gotta sneak it like how you do it to movies
Once it’s in the flight they dont really care
But I know you gotta finish ir throw it before immigration tho or else there’s fines
dang my chest hurt reading this 😭
Ouch
17 hours on a chair

i'm not sure if i'm lucky to be in the middle of Europe to just be able to drive across borders, or mad because all beautiful places seem to be on the other side of the world 😆
juxtaposition for intl flights is wild considering my friend was able to bring home a whole ass guava cheesecake from Costco on a domestic flight
I’m bringing anything unique to my country
yeah and MAD jetlag last time, for the first 3 days in Japan i thought I'm actively dying 😂
I stay in singapore and we’re like a mix of different races so.. I’m gonna bring a mix of snacks
my country is so tiny, there's nothing really super unique i can bring besides alcohol. most people i know have kids that will want sweets though. so i will bring some from all surrounding countries^^
Yeaah it’s scary when it happens. Read on the news someone got fined $2k in australia for bringing unfinished subway from sg lol
I wanted to bring snacks to share with travelers/locals but like… idk what would be considered a novelty in Japan considering that American snacks seem to be pretty common
Goddamn cheesecake
Sounds like a good idea! I’m sure the kids will like it alot
Hmm my japan friends requested for bbq pork
Dried bbq pork
Not sure if america has it? (Maybe chinatown areas?)
sounds amazing!! i think Singapore was never on my list of countries to visit soon, my parents both visited in their youth and loved it. i wonder why i never considered. i will look it up more
Like jerky? That's definitely something I can get my hands on lmao
I do plan to visit Laos and Vietnam soon
maybe Singapore will be the perfect excuse to also add Thailand while going back home
sorry, drifting off
Do give singapore a visit! We’re a multi racial country so it’d be an experience to visit and try out the different foods
Yup something like that but it’s sweet and savoury. It’s a chinese delicacy
i want to go to spore but it seems expensive ahh
now you've got me thinking about honey baked ham again
Food wise it’s pretty cheap! But accommodation might be on the pricey side
Oops
i'm considering it because i have friends in msia so i might as well do a double trip
i actually have a friend in Singapore, she's an amazing chef ❤️ i always planned to meet with her but she travels a ton and we always miss each other
jk just read that it's not allowed in the country, or more so I'll have to jump through 50 hurdles to do it lmao
Back to the drawing board 😤
Yeah it isn’t allowed buuuut
My jap friend be like “I’ve brought it in before no problems”

LMAO

I wanna come back tho, so debating if I wanna risk it 😂😂
If you’re heading to MY, a day or two trip to singapore is enough
we share some similarities with each other
How did you girls meet? Maybe y’all can meet each other in another country 😂
How many clothes are y’all bringing? For my 10 days trip I’m thinking like 1 Jackets, 1 hoodie, 2 Pants and a few t shirts
we met stupidly on cooking streams because we all are dedicated af
And much as I can fit
Will have a large suitcase and a carry on backpack (about 30l)
That looks pretty good! I am in Kyoto the 17-18
I'm gonna be there from the 15th to the 20th!
bringing 2 pair of pants, 3 shirts, underwear as necessary and a light jacket to buy a cool jacket there
my entire wardrobe is about a week of clothes so it's all coming
I never bring more than 4x everything except pants (1x of those)
everything in this case being tshirts, socks and undies
last time I went for 2 weeks I just brought a week worth of clothes and did laundry
since it be chilly in November, you’ll most likely be wearing a jacket all the time
and plus you can always buy clothes in Japan as well
so I would pack lightly
yeah I'm hoping I'll only have to do laundry twice
definitely don’t skimp out on underwear and socks tho haha
and you can always rewear shirts and pants, no one will no
except me
bring your medication and you'll be fine unless you're xxl in eu
or xl.. don't call me out on it
pants I rewear plenty but shirts almost never
oh fuck off with pants, am a woman an i assume i have hips: i found ONE pair
then again i also am considered tall as tall guys in japan i suppose
they also all lie about height
even friends i met before, they lie about their height. it's stupid.
What's tall in Japan standards 👀
yeah I’m like 6 feet
it's honestly ridiculous, they will tell you they're 1.78 and if you stand in front of them they're 1.62 at best
normalize platform shoes for guys 😭
aggressively googles conversion to ft
it's honestly not even bad, but i would appreciate honesty
I laughed out loud after seeing the numbers in ft/inch
It's ok the only battles I know are dance battles
I would've lost in that aspect for sure
For guys in Japan... anything above 5'7 lol
Oh cool the culture shock won’t be as bad then 😂
Great spot for dandan noodles in Kobe https://maps.app.goo.gl/NcRgAuDvg4M1CB846
As a larger man, I'm not taking the chance on being able to buy decent clothes in Japan
Unless I head to a clothes shop next to a sumo training area
Uniqlo etc are likely not stocking my size
Id be a L/XL in UK sizing
L in UK is not that big is it?
Im L/XL in Europe and I can shop at Uniqlo no prob
(in Japan and Europe)
I find the L oversized T-shirt fits ok (probably not the exact fit). The normal Airism T-shirt or supima cotton one id be XL
UK uses the same international system as Europe, so L/XL would be the same between you two
Though I was more a definite XL but lost weight recently so now some tshirts I can get into L (adidas tshirts I buy for example)
I mean you often need XL if you are remotely buff and over like 183cm
So you should be fine, if you buy L adidas tshirts you wont have trouble in Uniqlo
I saw people online saying they rarely have anything larger than L within store
And it's need to order online
Japanese fashion is pretty loose fitting so not necesarily
Its not as bad as people make it out to be
Ya, probably not something I'd risk. I'm just going to bring a ton of tshirts
I'll have enough to open my own shop. Well, assuming anyone wants a black Airism Uniqlo tshirt
I'll probably still end up there at some point and if they have stuff for me, I'll buy alright
I'll have 10 or so tshirts going out though
Ah just like may showers back home
Would not surprise me if north/northwestern European
No under or above, just 157
Not even kidding
Yes obviously there are outliers
but in a room full of Japanese women you could literally put a board on top of everyone's heads and it would be flat
short gang
For a week I’ll pack for three/four days and buy the rest of my clothes in Japan
Maybe I can put in an online order now for the larger sizes and pickup when I get there
Can anyone get me in a lounge Nov 7? lol
Yay for me at 165
lol I would prefer to be like 175 cm
Tall enough to be taller than most women
180 cm would be nice too
for standing concerts and GA
This!!!!
I always gripe about being short in floor concerts
being 180 cm would be nice for georgia?
Agreed
My height is a bit annoying for dating
because there are many women who are my height or over me
and while its not outright impossible, it is extremely uncommon for women to date men shorter than they are. At least in my experience.
Me 5ft6 🤔😂
Or 167cm I guess for Americanas
huh. I'm 5'8 and when I read that I was like "that's not right bc I'm 168 cm". turns out I've just had the wrong number in my head this whole time. I've def put 168 on some documents lol
Lol yeah I think 5'8 like 175 or something
Think of it this way
I'm of east asian descent and 155. My cousin, born and raised in east asia is 178 🙈
3 cm is a little over 1 inch
yuuup, not impossible at all but also not easy in the slightest
150 cm is roughly 5 feet
so if you're 8 inches over 5 feet
then you're roughly 170-173 cm ish
Another east asian friend is 185 and is forced to shop in america because they do not make sizes for her in asia 🙈
This entire convo I've had to keep a tab open to Google the number conversion lol
and don't even get me started with the individuals who have insane requirements
5', 5'10", and 6'1"
"Must be 6'3, make $300,000 USD + a year, look like ryan gosling, and treats me like a princess"
and I'm like
"Who are you? Scarlet Johansson??"
If you're astronomically rich then a lot of those requirements go out the window 😂
Basically yeah
If you're rich, a relatively decent person, and even remotely attractive, that helps significantly.
You'd have to be a raging asshole as a rich person to not be able to get anyone and even then some women gravitate towards that
I remember there was a meme where someone make a fake tinder profile
isn't there that one guy with a website looking for a girlfriend that makes a pretty good amount of money
Where he was this insanely good looking man
but openly stated that he had a history of cheating and beating women
and he still had tons of requests
Fake profile, but apparently those red flags didn't matter
I’m laughing because it’s sad and true at the same time
But whatever gets you fed and housed I guess 😭😭
Oh wait just handsome? Or rich too?

Its the internet, so take it with a grain of salt of course
L and XL is easy af to find
People are dumb shits and wrong, theyre buying at a singular store in the most touristy areas and wonder why they are out of stock lmao
Hahah
fine, I will make the pilgrimage to Yokohama to buy an XL Muji down jacket
I'm assuming Japan sizes are similar to China sizes?
If so, I can find stuff that fits
There is no one size
Different brands have different sizing charts
Inflection over text is weird mb
It's inconsistent in my experience
I mean, thats just clothing in general
Cut&sews are always going to fit different compared to other brands and other types of clothes
I am size L but in Japan always go one size over the equivalent of L
If there’s something I have noticed is that in general clothing tends to be mildly tighter at the chest and slightly shorter
Which is fine by me
Regardless of the size in question
Exhibit A, this jacket is a medium, its a japanese designer brand
Im an XL lmao
I think it moreso depends on what stores you pop into
If it’s an international sorta brand they’ll be fine
Love that lol. But definitely meant to be an oversized jacket
If its japan-only or something along those lines then yes there is a chance it will be what we call “asian sizing”
Still not an M 🤦♂️ but
Experienced this more in China
In their listings it says its only slightly oversized
Which doesnt really mean two sizes up haha
But yeah sick jacket, mostly wool
In Korea I shopped Korean brands uniquely. Never had Asian sizes
China? Ye I did
Japan haven’t tried
Brand name?
I’m a lover of a good wool jacket
Korean fashion tends to be on the oversized side of things a
(He says having bought 3 on my trip so far)
At least for current trends
Soshiotsuki
Its their 22 AW Field Jacket
Japan sizing I find to not be toooo bad. China sizing can be tiny though
I was surprised at how much stuff I fit into in Japan
Set me back about 400 aud i think? Which is cheap compared to their resale atm
Oh not bad
Oh yeah the Chinese beauty standards are wild
Yeah got lucky with a kindal having it in stock
I’m gonna take a look at all your recs when I’m in shopping areas
Waiting for kyushu and Tokyo tho
Was gonna wait till I moved to pick it up but ended up buying it via a proxy cause I didnt want to miss it
is Harajuku a tourist trap for fashion or can you find good deals on Japanese brands there?
Takeshita fucking sucks and most tourists only go there
But harajuku is huge
As for “deals” youre not finding deals in tokyo or osaka
Youll find range, but not deals
Store owners arent stupid and they know americans will pay what they sell it for
You may find a gem here or there at ragtags trefacs and kindals outside of the yamanote
But no absolute steals, gotta go outside of kanto kansai main cities for that
Cat street & the proper backstreets of uruhara, best
Like this $1000 USD John Lawrence Sullivan jacket I copped in beppu for $90
I don’t know what all that means beyond that is awesome for you man
A good deal is a good deal
JLS is a cool Japanese designer who uses alot of British inspiration from the early 1900s
Checked in, aaaa, SOON
have fun and safe flight 🫡
It's not for another day, but I WILL
Safe travels my guy
I've been counting down the days since 3 weeks ago and I still have work : ' )
felt that
just hoping the time in japan doesnt go as fast!
Some went down
In the final week run up
Even with yen gg down?
Better than september atleast
My tokyo hotel costs like $300 sgd for 4 nights
- im looking at early nov (my travel date) not later half of nov btw
Yea same sorta
Im just quickly scanning on booking.com and agoda and the hostel prices are more than my hotel

That’s ex
Yeaah lucky to book it early
Prices in tokyo is
You’re staying at which hotel chain?
Tomorrow lets go
the first half of my trip im staying in some "boutique" hotel near shibuya that honestly has not-too-good reviews but meh, it was cheap and near shibuya
second half im staying in an airbnb for comfort
hope your move over is smooth 🫡
Thankyou apple, should be cruisy
You're landing on the 25th as well?
Yeah, 1 night in osaka then heading down to fukuoka to unpack and move in
Damn
its really q wild tbh but then again im searching for 2nd nov
so its not that surprising, kinda
Oh dang that's awesome, hope the move goes well!!
really gotta book your accoms early ngl, at least for tokyo/osaka
I've been periodically checking since I booked a long time ago but it was wishful thinking 😅 Definitely not finding a better price than $150/night for 3 people in central tokyo
I bought some plane tickets last week because they were super cheap, less than half of what I paid last year. I didn't anticipate the hotel being more expensive
(for a trip in 2nd half of November)
Get a month role please! id:customize
Ope
If you’re in Tokyo on the 29th
#november message
Will be gone by then
oh yeah I was surprised. Also got my flight booked earlier in the year during a sale, but last week they dropped below 1k 💀
Uh huh. They are $730 here from near the east coast, USA. Last year was ~$1,500
yea possibly
and in general november/december is just the busier holiday period
so im not too surprised
More and more people realizing November is like the best time to be in Japan
yeah the tour company I hired this time around usualy includes pick up and drop off services but told us they might not be able to because it just so happens we decided to book a long weekend 💀
Learning about lesser known japanese holidays I guess
i was checking out the other threads and it seems the oct/nov osaka peeps really enjoy going to this one bar called voyager stand
there's one in shibuya too
think its a mix between bar/club and its like; pay a cover fee (2k yen?) and its a drink-all-you-want
yeah that one looks nice seems more chill
ok i just went to see their instagram idk if its chill 😂
