duolingo bad
i only know watashiwa star 😩
duolingo is terrible for actually learning, but if your goal is to remember 10 phrases its probably fine lol
Picked up a little phrase book while I was in a book store the other day, that'll be my backup plan in case my phone fails me 😆
I use Duolingo every day. It works for me to keep familiar with Japanese, but I wouldn’t recommend it for starting out
I was using anki to remember 2k core words
got through half the deck and then got busy and haven’t used over a month now 😭
Learn the foundations first with lessons and taking notes, apps later
yup I took 3 semesters of japanese but I keep forgetting the grammar 🥲
but definitely my listening is better than my speaking
knowing certain words help understand the jest of things by context
the most interactions you’ll have in Japanese is probably when your at the conbini, ordering food, getting lost, hotel, taxi, shopping
Speaking of which, I should try studying some food kanji
they use a lot of katakana
sometimes they’ll have an English menu
but if they don’t you can use Google translate camera app
This is an issue I wanted to ask about but was too embarrassed. Do any solo travellers here like…not speak any Japanese? Because I know pretty much nothing 😓
Most travelers dont speak japanese
Youre going to find generally alot of frequent travelers here, and alot of first timers who have lurked for ages doing everything they can to prep for their trip
but theyre likely going to tokyo osaka kyoto and going to be reading and speaking english the entire time
Also choose a roles in the channels roles section
i dont speak much and im also going significantly off the beaten path, should be interesting lol
that one actually helped me when i was in italy and for some reason there was an exit labeled only in italian and japanese
I’m embarrassed by how little Japanese I remember
And I have a literal degree in Japanese
But it’s been over 15 years since I had to study it
If you can understand some basic stuff and speak it, it really helps immensely
Yeah I'm only going in with a few handy words/phrases
I thought I was fluent :(

MERCHAND...
I'm also changing my phone lock screen to a message that says I don't speak Japanese 😆
im going in with a few hundred handy words or phrases, which honestly is probably not enough to make that much of a difference lol
not confidence-wise anyway
maybe you'll get nihongo jouzu'd
Youll be surprised how little you actually need as a tourist
the greatest compliement a japanese can give you 😤
its really not that foreign of a country to english speakers
yeah definitely not necessary to know, but really helps. the least you could do when visiting a foreign country is learning a bit of their language and culture.
ill be ready to hit them back with the いや全然わからない
theyll just think your being humble with yourself and speak even more japanese to you 😂
Only 2 weeks away though, so it’ll be a crash course if you want to learn 😆
A few handy phrases
O Susume wa - what do you recommend?
Basically if you have no idea what to idea and you don’t mind what you’re eating
Just follow their rec
Kore o onegaishmasu - give me this please. Point on menu
Nama biiru onegaishimasu?
Very handy
whiskey highballs are very popular
I didn’t know I would enjoy it until I came to Japan lol
とりあえず、なま
とりあえず?なんですか?
How to say "for now", "at first" "anyway" in Japanese?
most times people just say ビール but
わかりました
Something new I learnt today
chris explains it best if you wanna check that part out (timestamped)
but simple concept
Going go be in Kyoto from 11/17-11/22 and Tokyo from 11/22-11/28 with day trips to Kanazawa and Nagano somewhere in there. Anyone want to meet up?
November 4th. Would like to put together a jazz bar tour in shinjuku.
Hit the classics:
Jazz bar samurai, Dug Jazz, Jazz decoy, Suzy -Q .
Then get to Jazz spot early enough to get a seat and hang out for a couple hours.
Maybe hit cotton club on the way/ after 👀
I'm free in Tokyo from the 6-11th of November, is anyone keen to do something? I'm thinking bar hopping or something. I honestly just want to meet up with some people and do something fun! 🙂
Sweet! I'll be staying in Shibuya but I'm happy to go anywhere honestly
Planning on hitting Kichojji and Koenji area that afternoon/evening. I’m definitely game to hit those places on the way back if time allows!
DM me if you’d like
おはよ
pray to every god you know
😔
i have to keep checking every 20 mins for the next hour 😮
this is so dumb, im going backto sleep 😡
same as @night gazelle ! this is totally up my alley but just depends on timing
@brisk finch just a FYI, @tough storm posted this ticketjam link for yoasobi ticekts if you're still looking https://ticketjam.jp/tickets/yoasobi/event/508144
Yeah echoing what Cerena said you can go the day of for a chance at a later time that you can return to. I’m not sure how badly you want to get a resy but an alternative is you can go on fiverr and search Pokémon cafe. You then pay someone to make a resy for you (for some reason those in Japan have an easier time snagging spots than foreigners)
おはよう
Hey all! new to this discord. I am 25m from the UK / London travelling to Japan for the first time solo next month for 31 days (went last year with friends) - looking to meet up with new people/make friends while I'm there :D
Nagasaki (1-3) -> Fukuoka (4-6) -> Hiroshima (7-9) -> Kyoto (10-14) -> Osaka (15 -18) -> Lake Kawa ( 19-20) -> Tokyo (21 - 27) -> Sapporo (28-2 Dec)
I'm always down for general exploring / eating / bar hopping in the evenings etc
I'd be down. I'm in Tokyo 6-16, and my schedule is wide open
I’d be down too, 19m here 😄
I don’t think they’ll id check me 😅
Hey all coming to Japan this Wednesday!
Will be in Japan until Nov 6th!
DM me recommendations!
hey me too i'm in tokyo 9-15th! 🙂 i don't have anything planned either
we were planning to go to LOST bar somewhere during the 1st or 2nd week of Nov but i think their reservation system is up yet
but whoever's keen we can still head out and find other places to chill and drink~
ill just add some random meetup dates on the calendar for both weeks i suppose
I am in Tokyo from 7th so will be happy to get drinks also
plugging again to everyone; if you dont mind sharing your itineraries and wanna meet others lets put it all into the our shared sheet 🫡
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QcDrFx73oelW-7Qyz3j29Brdnl3TAzsCoMyo5lRerwI/edit?gid=0#gid=0
I need to change my details on that sheet
I went from a 2 week visit to a 3 month one 😅
thats not even a visit anymore but congrats
wfh or all vacation
?
Oh we cross in Fukuoka lol
I’ll be down there by that time
Leave job but my job is available when I come back
(3-6)
tbh i was checking out the october thread too and ngl most meetups are just going to be spontaneous
yah I assume most people will be busy doing their own itineraries up until evening time
yea thats basically me as well
and when the sun sets
the drinks come out
🥂
that being said i dont really have a clue as to where to go to find good places to drink, so if anyone has any wonderful suggestions please plug them here (and preferably outside of golden gai ngl)
Hello all 23M I'll be in Tokyo November 11/2 - 8 (might extend a day or some). Would love to meet new people out there! I speak a little (little) Japanese but I can get by... also I like to do literally everything so nothing is off the table !! よろしくお願いします 🙇♂️
よろしくね!
I’ll be in Tokyo Nov 2 -6. Feel free to DM me
thanks for making this. just joined and will add my name to the list 🫡
ah no dw i really didnt do all that much, i just stole it from october's thread
just fyi i'm going nov 21st - dec 10th if anyone wants to come hang out !!
first time so i'll probably just be walking around, hitting all the spots, taking pics, yapping a lot. i'm super spontaneous so down for anything really
Would anyone be down to go Disney sea as a group? Seems like there’s lots of people in Tokyo with ease in their schedule, or maybe joypolis??
I've got DisneySea booked already (28th November) so id anyone was there that day, id meet up
Friends and I are going the 5th unfortunately
Ah nice! Im planning mostly drive/ day trips for fukuoka but il be free in the city itself in the evenings 😄
Hey! 25M from NYC, I'll be in Tokyo from 11/5-11/13, would love to meet up with people to get food, go to bars, arcades, my days are generally planned out already but my evenings are pretty free/spontaneous
I decide to skip disneysea and save it for next trip since I am already doing usj in Osaka 😅
Let’s gooooo
pop open a cold chuhai from family mart and loiter outside in Shibuya🤣
thats how people are skirting the alchohal ban in shibuya I heard
I don’t really drink much but is asahi the go to beer from konbini
@frank hornet @night gazelle
Sounds good. I'll hit you guys up once I'm in tokyo. The first couple days are spoken for but 1st of the month I'm free as a bird. If there's another day that works better I'm down. I'll be there till the 9th
Yeah Asahi is pretty much the go to. Kirin is also pretty good.
There's a really interesting craft brew culture that's been getting more and more popular as well. If you can get your hands on the "Japan beer" magazine there will be a lot of good recs
Plus it's just a super cool magazine
Where can you get those?
Omg perfect, thanks so much! I never bought on this website, hope it's not too complicated
I can only type my name in Katakana... Hmm... I don't know if they'll going to give me trouble for that at enterance
Anyone knows?
(Concert tickets for Tokyo Dome)
Nevermind, I just read it says "No name registered" so that's perfect. I can register mine. But still Katakana though? Hmm.
Asahi and Kirin are everywhere. Unless we're thinking of more specific and obscure craft beer brands.
...or did you mean the magazine?
The magazine
Ah! No idea then, I'll leave that to Ocelot 😄
Believe or not, I don’t think i’ve ever had Asahi. It never seems to be around where I live.
Kirin and Sapporo are tho
Suntory Premium Malts has been my go to on my trips
Hell yeah, another Suntory enjoyer
Asahi Superdry 🤤

probably unnecessarily detailed lol
I like anime
Is KKday is the best way to get Shibuya sky tickets? Or Klook?.. or same difference?
YMMV, but I'd say same
You have to get them at breweries or a craft beer spot
I got mine at franks barbe(e)r the stand .
It's right outside of Iidabashi station. Super nice people. Knows a lot about the craft beer scene around Japan
Yo! Me and @lavish flame are gonna spend a day in Shimokitazawa on November 5th! There's a gig at Shelter as well that we're keen to see plus a few famous Bocchi the Rock spots I wanna see. Might be the last chance you get to see the famous tree building which is getting demolished to make way for a main road. Lemme know if you're also interested! Will post on the spreadsheet. Here's the reservation link! https://www.loft-prj.co.jp/schedule/reserve?event_id=294020
I'd definitely be down to try and swing that.
Eyyy let's go! I'll make a group chat in a min!
Good to know!
I’m going to a show in shibuya that night, but I was thinking of going to Shimo earlier on. So if you want to do stuff during the day, let me know!
Of course, that'll be great! : )
Sorry. I'll make a group chat in a min. Just kinda organising more stuff buying an Oasis ticket lmao

Oof
If the cheapest ticket is gone, I'm out lmao
After I deliberate, I'll make the group chat hehe
There's going to be 1 left for you. I can feel it
what is this for?
ooh nice! thought it was something to do in japan
Nah! It's for well into next year!!
Okay I can settle stuff now!
So if anyone is interested in visiting Shimokitazawa on Nov 5, please refer to here! #1225745917911765062 message
Just made the group DM! Lemme know when you'd like to be added in! @rancid warren
Whenevers clever.
I probably should make one for the jazz bar tour a couple of us want to do (if thats something you'd be interested in)
When is this?
i'll be in japan in mid november so i'll see everyone then. gonna be in HK first
doing the usual osaka, kyoto, and tokyo destinations. have nara and kobe for a day trip too
This takes me back to our Ghibli bloodbath days
@wise lantern
This is worse cos they pressure you with choosing which seat you'd like 🥲
Ooh thank you! Btw waiting on you to accept request so I can invite you to group chat!
Done
Welcome!! We have a sheet to fill in just in case schedules align! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QcDrFx73oelW-7Qyz3j29Brdnl3TAzsCoMyo5lRerwI/edit?usp=sharing
@wise lantern @lavish flame i might join you guys for shimokita, but i have some other stuff planned earlier in the day. Maybe only in the late afternoon/evening, but i'll keep you guys updated
filled! thanks for sharing it with me. i guess we all keep in touch via discord?
i saw the oct/nov 24' osaka dinner thread as well. that is one of the more popular threads it seems
pretty much!
and yea, sometimes to make it easier to organise between smaller groups (ie other locations), users sometimes create their own threads too
yah i've seen some threads were no one responded.... sad stuff 😦
most times we just try to stay on the "month" thread but ngl you can do whatever you want~ hehe. Some do group DMs and stuff too
i say most times like ive been here for years but its just what ive observed btw
That's pretty much how it is, yeah. They find their little hangout and branch out.
I wish I could join every little shindig here myself but I also have other friends outside server that I really wanna meet too : ' )
Can't have the best of both worlds
Side note: Nov 1 I'll be wandering senso-ji and the alleys for pretty much the whole day.
And looking for this curry bread stand
I will find it again
does anyone know of any AOT theme/merch place/cafe etc in japan? 🙂
Thank youu
Finding kimi no nawa and shibuya incident
NAURRRRRR ITS TILL OCT
I saw that too
I googled the japanese characters and found it (i think?) https://maps.app.goo.gl/fvYUU71LHqAFu3CG6
Have fun! Its a nice walk around the area
but the knnw spots are pretty residential so try not to make too much noise if you’re going with friends
Waaah nicee
Cant wait to see it in person!
It's a 5 min. Walk from where I'm staying one of the nights!
Thank you so much
whoah curry and cheese bread 🥖
Kkday was useless for me yesterday. Ended up buying via Klook
Hi Derrick (27m) here, I'll be heading to Nagoya 5-11 Nov. Open to meet for some food & drinks during this period.
Yo thank you for this!!!1
@lime inlet Would you happen to be around Shimokita Nov 5? 👀
Yes I’m pretty much always there
Ey cool!! We might be attending a gig there on the 5th! Would love to have ya!
It seems like 5th is confirmed. I'm unsure. I'll have to confirm with the group
Found KKday easier to navigate/spam F5 on
Kkday for some reason has 3-5pm slots
Can’t even book for those time slots 😭
i got mine through klook last year
but it wasnt the best timing like 1pm
still nice though
Thanks, I’m going to try klook tomorrow then for the 17.. can’t get the sunset hours rn for the 16
yeah KKDay tickets were impossible to get from 3 pm onwards, even though I clicked within seconds of tickets being released
Was only able to get 2:40 pm
It's absolutely delicious. That place was my favorite one last time I went
it’s by the sensoji temple so I’ll definitely hit that up
I'm staying right down the street from the temple on the 1st if you want to meet up n wander around.
Managed to get a kkday one for 3.20 today. Had a Klook one for 2.40 yesterday but extra 40 minutes be handy
Two separate days so gives me flexibility if one of the days is shite
And can always refund later
I wanna go but I already went
maybe it would hit diff going solo
but it was a memorable experience
Any nature peeps? Thinking about doing a morning trip out to shiokawa falls. Or maybe Chisuji. Open to recommendations too.
I really enjoyed it. Last time we accidentally wandered over there while searching the whole city for some wind chimes (surprisingly hard to find)
N wished we spent more time there. Tons of restaurants/ bars. Lots of food vendors. It's definitely touristy but who cares. Wished I spent more time there since it was on our last day so this trip (solo) i booked a hotel for a night right next to it
i heard theres alot of high end resturants in asasuka
i need to do more exploring in that area
ive only visited the sensoji temple and ueno park
They're all over the place. I'm usually lean towards the more hole in the wall places. Kinda checking out the smaller spots in the alleys.
Tbh I'm kinda down.. was planning on getting my IDP bc I wanted to go to the Kamiiso No Tori gate but it's a 3ish hour drive from Tokyo
I was also looking into a day trip for Kawaguchiko or do a hike at the Aokigahara forest
Yeah the driving is a no go for me. There's a lot of stuff west of tokyo. Handful of waterfalls / nature spots. 2 hour train / bus ride is a lot easier than driving too.
Just want to make sure I hit it early. Nothing like early morning nature
Ah ok that's fine with me too LOL. I hate driving with a passion anyways but I'll still get it as a backup plan 😂
I’m down but I’m only free in nov on the 1st or 2nd
Also going to do a kamakura / enoshima day if that interests you
im doing kamakura / enoishima day ;O
1st or 2nd would be perfect. I think the 4th there's plans for a jazz bar tour night and the 5th a handful of us are meeting in shimo
You’ll be Japan mid nov tho right?
well nov 8, but wont be in tokyo until nov 15 - 24
Yeah but not until after I leave 😭
🥲🥲
Ok awesomeeee, let's just watch the weather for now and decide once the dates are closer
I am also doing Kamakura
I'm probably gonna do a surf lesson in Enoshima if anyone else wants to join 👁️👄👁️
Never tried surfing but that sounds pretty sweet
Have a date for that?
Currently planned the 14th, I arrive in Japan the 10th
Just missed
Gotta spam f5 for a while
Got a 3pm then 3:20 and almost a 4pm one the other day that way
Until like 1h30 after they add the next day timeslots you'll be able to snatch cancellations if you are fast enough
Ah good to know - too late anyway
I’ll just go at 2:40 and chill for 2 hours, enjoy the sunset progression lol
Loose itinerary for me thus far:
Halloween: buddy of mine is playing a show in shibuya
1st or 2nd: morning / day trip outside the city for nature hike / waterfalls (dependent on weather) with @undone scroll
1st / 2nd: whatever day is not the nature day I'll be around senso-ji most the day.
3rd: most likely kamakura / enoishima
4th: Jazz bar hopping in shinjuku with a couple people.
5th: afternoon meet up in Shimo with a few people.
O Terno concert in shibuya
(I believe @night gazelle will be there as well)
Tossing it out there if anyone else wants to coordinate.
No plans the 30th, 6th, and 7th.
Would be down for an arcade trip at some point. Want to grab some stuff from a pokemon center. Also down to join other groups if there's anything planned
I'd be free and keen to do something on the 6th or 7th!
Hell yeah. Anything in mind you're trying to do? I'm game for pretty much whatever. I do want to hit an arcade n a pokemon center at some point
Arcade group could be pretty fun
I'm down for anything, drinks and bar hopping would be fun, arcade would be fun.
I'm just sad I'll miss your jazz night!
We can squeeze a jazz bar into the night. They're all over the place. Well iron out details a little later. Cities pretty easy to traverse so meeting up won't be hard
Look up "room for squares"
Really want to check that place out n don't have it in the schedule yet
LOST Bar has been mentioned in a while. Totally forgot I should shoe that in also
@edgy hollow 6th or 7th. We can hit mikado game center n grab lunch. It's also right next to some good jazz spots. Or afterwards we can head to shinjuku station n wander round there. Golden gai, bars, food.
Lets do the 7th. Sounds perfect, room for squares looks cool too!
Will most likely squeeze into Lost on the 4th
It's not a far ride from shinjuku or the arcade either so we can definitely hit all of the above n just see where the night goes.
We either catch last train or eat konbini food on the sidewalk
the more i look at this restaurant, the more tempted i am to book it haha
https://www.matsukiya.net/english.html
A restaurant specializing in Omi beef directly run by a long-established house that spread the name of Omi beef nationwide in the early Meiji era.
I haven’t booked any restaurants yet 😅
Only time I booked restaurants was my first trip tbh, after that I just couldnt be bothered and there's a million places to get good food
for sure I wanna try this pizza place
Seirinkan
https://g.co/kgs/qWHKoE1
Go for it
oh dang, even for high end restaurants?
I realised I already booked steak otsuka for a solo lunch so probs too much wagyu for one trip haha
I've only booked for fancier restaurants that require advance booking to get a seat
Yeah really only if its very fancy and I really want to go, otherwise idc if I get in or not
been enough times
If you’ve seen Kill Bill this is a good place to get something to eat
Waiiit this looks sick
Ima hit it up tonight
Cheers for the rec
I can FINALLY share what we've got cooking on 29th November
https://www.ddinstagram.com/p/DBTUqBUywi5/
Sick-ass party in Kabukicho
sadge
I will be seeing the kansai philharmonic on Nov 29😇
See ya there🤘
Wont be there for the show but all the best in organising the show!!
Also, a bit more to November but enjoying some (local) izakaya hehe
Trying again for Shibuya sky golden hour tickets in 30 minutes 🗿
How was the place? Was planning to hit this up next Friday as well 😁
Golden hour tickets for Shibuya Sky secured lol
How does Shibuya Sky entry work?
If your ticket is for 4pm, do you enter at 4 and get to the top at like 4:15?
u gotta get to the top by 4pm to line up
I think there’s like a 20 min time window
usually there’s a line for the elevator too
Ok cool, so I should aim for a ticket like 1h 30m ish before sunset
Is trip.com/klook the best place to book from?
Kkday had backup selections but I don't wanna rely on that.
Would trip.com/klook booking be confirmed immediately?
Think you have a 20 slot from the start of your time. So if it's 4, your entry is from 4 to 4.20 I think
I think 3.40 is probably the best time as would definitely be up for sunset and not waiting around too long
Anyone is Osaka the 19th or 20th that might be interested in going to a fancy restaurant?
Yeees this place is on my list. Anyone wanna go on the 26th or 27th?
I have this whole list of food I’m trying to try before leaving Japan 😂
-omakase
- izakaya
- kaiseki
- tachigui
- yakitori
- sushi
- yakiniku
- ramen =
- gyudon
- tonkatsu
- gyukatsu = gyukatsu motomura
- okonomiyaki / hiroshimiyaki
- takoyaki
- gyoza
- unagi / donburi
- curry
- soba
- udon
- sukiyaki
- shabu shabu
- pizza = Seirinkan
- onigiri = onigiri bongo
- korean food in okubo
- yakisoba
- chirashi
- kushikatsu
- oden
- egg sando
- omurice
- matcha foods
Ushi hachi is a great yakiniku and you get a dope viiew of the shibuya scramble, good price for the quality too
Popo in nishinippori for sandos
Missing a McDonalds for me
First thing I ate last year when I went
Probably won't be the first thing but definitely happening out of convenience and tiredness
That and Subway
They're my I'm too tired to think so let's go in there food
Or my why the fuck is everywhere so busy so here will do food
Nice list. I gotta keep track of these too or else it all be a blur later 😭
Most of the things in the list are just types of food not places, so youll be fine
Only eat once at a kombini/fast food, never eat at the same place and youll see/try alot, thats the best way to first time
I tried going onigiri bongo last year but the line was so long
plenty of good onigiri you dont have to line up for
For sure, for me I hate not knowing the names of stuff like that and if it's not a conscious effort it's annoying not knowing
Like yeah I ate great yesterday. Oh what was it uh.. Um.. It was tasty at least 🤣
Add me to that list of wanting to eat all that bro
17 more days for me
just google "japanese foods list" same results 😛
What's the unique menu item that a Japanese mcdonalds would have anyway?
I lowkey wanna visit the weathering with you mcdonalds LOL
usually its based around seasons and holiday, not specifically japan mcdonalds.
there will be something for halloween is probably the next
usually its 1 sweet 1 savory and a drink
omg what's this
Speaking of which, does anybody know if US based fast food restaurant apps work over there? McDonald's, BK, dunks, Starbucks, etc?
I could use my accumulated points on those apps lol
separate app for every region, only one way to find out if it'd accept your US account
If I recall correctly for mcdonalds I had to download a separate mcdonalds jp app and create a new account
depending on what region your phone is you might not even be able to download the local app
I ran in to that problem when I was in europe earlier this year, but I don't remember having any issues when I was in japan
Would I have to download another Spotify? : o
spotify has always worked for me when I've been overseas
Sameee! Like to think it's the same in Japan too
Even though they region lock half my fave albums : ' )
huh I don't think I've ever noticed stuff in spotify being region locked, I guess I was lucky
It's opened up a little but there's still a few albums for me that are greyed out at least for me
looked at todays date and it suddenly hit me that I've got 11 days to go until my flight to Haneda 🤩
13 for me!
20 days to go, not looking forward to the 14 hour flight though
is that direct or are you having a stopover somewhere?
Catch up on your anime lol
I have a 90 min flight to Toronto, 2 hour layover and then 14 hour flight to Haneda
oof that is long, maybe get some compressions socks to avoid DVT
Luckily I have an exit row seat
My flight is also 14 hours but the day before I have another 8 hour flight cuz im flying back from a work trip 🥲
Also from Toronto?
Last time I flew trough Toronto my flight got canceled and I eneded up flying to London for a 12 hour layover
14h direct for me also
Dang I’m crying for yall
i jsut hope i wake up for my flight 😂, miens like at 8am, but gotta drive like 2 hours
its ok ive got an aisle seat and a lot of melatonin
what really knocked me out on the plane is motion sickness pills
You think I’ll be doing too much if I bring a massage gun for the flight
It would be strange
i lost my left airpod coming back from japan on the plane
fell asleep and woke up with one gone from my ear
so if you are on a united flight and see one, its probably mine
I thought this was a safe space
tbh anything that makes you more comfortable on a plane is ok by me
i'll let you know if I see it lol
Part of the fun of flying is the suffering you have to endure with complete strangers
imma be raw dogging it, jsut straight up watching the flight view
im not even gonna have the flight view, im just gonna start at the back of the seat
i might not even blink for the whole flight
Ok bet
The airline I’m flying with doesn’t even have window covers
youll miss the free snacks and drinks
wtf plane does not even have window covers?
Sadly I am flying with zipair so I believe I’m on my own
person next to you wont even bother waking you since they know your so locked in with that 😭
Zipair 🥹 aka the spirit airlines of ANA
Or whatever the major Japan airlines is
but doesnt live every plane come with window covers? Do they remove it to make the suffering worse
Round trip for some dates from bay area is about $500-$600 I think
😮
Nah they legit said eff y'all
i would hate that, i assuem it be super hot inside
wear sun screen
nah they do hjave windows covers i think
its one of those windows that when you press a button it gets darker
that is super cheap, my flight with Air Canada is much more expensive
wow 200
yeah the cheapest flights I've seen from the east coast are like $1200 round trip
Yeah I think even with an upgrade for luggage and the meal I still paid around $900
And then it went on promo a few weeks later 🙃
Yeah for that price I’ll take my chances with the sun LMAO
I’m def bringing my eye mask and will also bring melatonin so I can go night night
Is the meal like just crackers and water
The McDonalds teriyaki chicken is so annoyingly good
One of my favourite fast foods in Japan 💀 ashamed of myself
ebi shrimp burger, shaka skaka fries, melon soda 🫢
is anyone here going to the sumo tournament in fukuoka? I'll be going on the 20th
14 hours for me too from London
I have some tight socks that go up to my thighs lol
Supposed to stop DVT
Compression socks
i jsut get up and walk every now and then, i pick an aisle seat just for that reason
compression socks are great, but it's best to just get up frequently and stretch on long flights. I know some people hate doing so when not in the aisle, but it's not healthy to sit for soooo long on a long haul
Yeah it's not good so sit for so long 😔 I like to sleep against the plane so I prefer window seat
Reminder Zipair you would need to pay for luggage each way. 7kg is basically packing nothing. Ditto for meals.
I have 13 days and I still feel like I'm forgetting to plan something LOL
same here... i feel like theres still planning i need to do but i dunno what
I always end up with a long checklist
maybe go through my list of food places and make some reservations
Like a list of things to wrap up on the lead up to the last week before a trip.
i have a small list of things i need to do before leaving my house
you could bring one of these massage balls from your local sports store, it's about the size of a tennis ball and I use mine on the ball and heel of my feet if I've been on my feet all day https://www.rebelsport.com.au/p/celsius-therapy-ball-686179.html?cgid=REB0711
This is a good idea. Also practice doing toe squats. Painful as heck but really helps a ton
Ooooo yes ty for the rec
I’ll probably do this instead tbh, I’ll probs get blacklisted if the crew starts hearing aggressive vibrations in the back of the plane
also these from like any Japanese pharmacy, they're like relieving menthol patches https://kayxi.com.au/products/lion-foot-patch-relieve-tiredness-18pcs
[LION] Kyusoku Jikan Cooling Leg and Foot Gel Patch Relieve Tiredness 18pcs High moisture content elastic pad to Cool and Refresh the feet and calves after a hard day’s work with just one application. Contains 5 very relaxing fragrant herbal ingredients, Lavender, Sage, Rosemary, Lemon and Orange. Gentle to the skin.
Ooooo ty again, I’ll pick these up for the flight home 😁
Going to be in Tokyo then so I’ll most likely go here! I want to watch a bunch of shows while I’m in Japan
You will remember this one 🤘
I’m about to do my first solo trip and honestly only know a few words, I’m really nervous but can’t back out now lol
BRING ONE
Not even a question
If u have one that is small even better
(Especially if you’re prone to tightness in general)
It’s saved my ass on this trip. I also have one of those small tennis ball rollers
Thanks can’t wait!
I got mine down to 1100 but pretty much yea lol
Oh no yeah I’m def gonna bring mine, just wasn’t sure if I’d be doing too much if I brought it on the plane hahaha
It’s forreal a game changer, using it on my legs after being on my feet all day is *chef’s kiss
LOL
dang ok we'll see how I feel the day I fly out 😂😂
Shot in the dark but is anyone else planning on going to the Osaka aquarium on the Saturday the 16th of November? Or if you want to tag along. I'm doing a japan trip with my girlfriend and this is gonna be our one day splitting up to do different things
Y'know, in a way that's kinda sweet, since you don't have to be with each other 24/7.
Unfortunately I'm on the way on at that point 😦
Hello, i will be in Japan all November with my gf, will be my third time in Japan. Havent planed anything yet besides our first 5 nights in Tokio. Someone has the same problem like we have?
You should at least book your hotels. Hotels sell out quite quickly in Japan
Bit random habo, but i was telling a friend (whos also big into japanese music) about the show you’re organising, and he wanted me to pass on the message: he’s a fan of angura and appreciates your videos
Aww thank you
I spent all of today editing the next one. Hopefully out by the end of the month
It’s massive which is why I stopped uploading so much
Normal schedule should be back after it’s done
@lime inlet sounds awesome! i think @wise lantern mentioned you but a few peeps from this thread might be meeting up in shimokita on the 5th for a bocchi explorstion + gig at shelter

Just need to set aside some time to draw up a travel plan. Using japan-guide.com and the like.
I don't know where you've been before, but how about picking cities and regions you haven't been to visit.
We visited first time Tokio-Kyoto-Hiroshima-Fukuoka,
second time Tokio-Kyoto-Kanazawa-Takayama-Kamikochi-Matsumoto-Hokkaido(Sapporo-Ashahikawa)
Now we wanted to visit Tohoku region (we are thinking of Morioka-Sendai-Wakamatsu) for autumn foliage and heading down to Kyushu with a stop in Kyoto
Planing our last trips went easy and was fun, but now even with more time (4 weeks) we cant get to any final decisions 😦
Heading down to kawaguchiko on nov 6-8 week if you’re down
Oop. Osaka and Kyoto is gonna have some oof weather leading up to November (and some of November too)
Hoping for false alarm, but if not I guess it's gonna keep domestic tourism down for Kyoto shrines and such
Does anybody want to join on teamlab planets on 15/16th november?
dam I missed 4pm Shibuya sky ticket by 5 minutes of purchase delay
Guess i’m still packing summer clothes
Friend that’s staying in osaka told me 20th oct weather is hot in the day but cold in the morning and night.Need bring a jacket along while travelling just incase
Also, just 10 more days to nov

I was on Klook watching like a hawk and they dropped at 12:20, sunset times completely sold out.
I ended up taking 2:20, i'll just hide there 2 hours 😛
Yeah I was surprised when I checked it.
Few jumpers for the evenings
I was gonna do that but will try again for another day
Don't think I can be bothered waiting 2 hours
Tf am I gonna do for 2 hours 🤣
look at the view and think about the meaning of life wdym?
I have 18 hours to do that on my flight to Tokyo
true true
Might have to do that if I don't get sunset tickets.
drink
hey, how accurate this site is? can I count on it for 1 month in advance?
I don't think you can count on ANY weather forecasts a month in advance
At least I wouldn't
ayeeee November is almost here, who else is super excited!?
so i got a question, I'll prob plan to explore shinjuku and shibuya for dat nightlife, is roppongi a must-see or the first two are enough?
I went there just for ramen lol
if your going to teamlabs borderless or azubudai hills might as well check it out
shinjuku and roppongi are kinda zzz tbh
lol dont say that, ive got my hotel there for multiple days in shinjuku
same
dunno what to tell ya, I find them quite boring, theres some alright bars and stuff but it gets old quick imo, each to their own
I think some areas in Shinjuku make for an excellent base. Easy access to everywhere else, great food at all hours. I also love walking around Shinjuku Gyoen
So many options for stuff around there, I can't imagine getting bored with it
thats what i wanna hear :)))
TBF I think choosing a place to stay is choosing among a lot of great options. You'll have a hard time going too wrong as long as you're near a major train station 🙂
In the worst case you're a few minutes more from where you want to be, but you have a ton of stuff near you anyways. Shinjuku sanchome area is one of my favorites from the few places I've stayed at. I was there for 3 weeks at one point and didn't get bored.
ill be there like during the 20's
a week away until I'm flying and I've still no plans other than my accommodations. I should probably work on that
do itt
Just spend the entire time in your hotel room
I have a bunch of areas I want to visit for each day and have a list of things to do but, haven’t really booked anything down yet
I hope you have your hotels booked
oh yeah I got hotels booked lol
just that I don’t have things planned by the hour
I did that the first time and felt too rigid, so this time I want more flexibility
yeah seeing people do that is crazy to me
I made a whole Wanderlog not even with fixed hours things…hust for a rough daily plan.
4cweeks in: opened the app once
😂😂
I have things I wanna see and do on certain days, some stuff booked.
Otherwise that's pretty much it.
Damn, 4 weeks?!
I guess you've enjoyed it so far if you've not had to open the app.
Just throw down the following
A list of places you want to go to. Map them out in the best order to maximize travel efficiency
and write down a list of local cuisine items that you need to try out
I think they did drop that somewhere in here.
Whoever did, thank you.
I screenshotted it so quick.
I just do “morning/noon/night” and keep it easy apart from that
Yeah I just write down a list of places and map them out to figure out the best way to do them without having to backtrack, then write down local cuisine to try out.
I don't bother with hours
Ye ^ agreed with Meat
Because you really won't know how tired you are and when you'll be sleeping/waking up until the day of or the day before.
People are like
"I'm going to start everyday at 6 AM"
Yeah.....you see how that goes for you after like 3-4 days
It’s more like I meet ppl and don’t wanna do my planned day trip. Equally some days I have so much energy
Especially if you're in your 30s or 40s
Red taggers gonna red tag
lol I'm a bit haggered myself atm
Like I’m already nearly at monkey park 😂 having been up since 4
My knee is bleeding
And just chilling
Oh my blister is gone now
its just the excess skin
I just wrapped it in bandages until it went away
Rough
bro it's breakfast time
Have u been to Obuse btw?
I have 2 hours bus ride across 2 buses to get to my ryokan 😄
Contemplating stopping by en route to Nagano
way way up in the mountains
I have not
This old man on the train kept on telling me to go to Obuse 😂 so now I’m intrigued
That wasnt local shops, it was just names of japanese foods youd get by googling japanese foods
By the time I clear Haneda and get to my hotel, it'll be like 10:30/11:00 PM.
What are some reccs for food at this time?
Depends on where you'll be
^
Kawasaki
I'd be suprised if you'l have the energy to eat
How would you not want to eat after a flight thats cray
I'd be arriving at my hotel around 8 or 9 and while I'd like to imagine I'd drop my bags and hit the streets I'll guess we'll see
Not ichiran 🙏😇
lol I did that too
Still haven’t even seen one
I'll be hungry. Plane food not gonna be enough
where is this info?
Basically just https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Japanese_dishes copy pasted with like 3 shop names
Below is a list of dishes found in Japanese cuisine. Apart from rice, staples in Japanese cuisine include noodles, such as soba and udon. Japan has many simmered dishes such as fish products in broth called oden, or beef in sukiyaki and nikujaga. Foreign food, in particular Chinese food in the form of noodles in soup called ramen and fried dumpl...
i have this super map i created lol i just gotta pick n choose https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edit?mid=14JmjNRK5qzk_EX2N-fvza8uSv-RgW7M&usp=sharing
damnnn son, imma steal this
daikoku huh, hiring a car?
yep
day trip to yokohama from tokyo, rent car there, drive to daikoku pa, drop off back in tokyo
Also looks like youve got a bunch of clothing stores on there but missing some absolute bangers, so here's a few
Some you've got already though!
😮 i think i came across that spreedsheet before, was from like streetwear subreddit
Should clarify that all the jeans that say shimokitazawa are from bears happy denim
can you link?
Its my personal one so doubt it was on the streetwear reddit
cause like 4 people have the link haha
firee thanks for the list
Lemme copy paste the raw text so its easier

Kyushu is good for second hand, most of this is brand new.
Fukuoka is really the only fashion shopping place in Kyushu, and most of the first hand stores are the same and same price. So just bare that in mind
More kapital stock in kyushu tho
Interesting ye. I was looking at second hand this time around I think, but I will check out kapital
Kapital's just dummy popular and every american who is slightly into fashion heads straight to the tokyo stores with a fistful of USD and a tiktok they saw in their other hand ready to buy out the stock haha
Places outside the golden triangle get way more stock
😂😂 what’s ur favourite place in Tokyo to avoid this? That’s kinda why I don’t really like shopping there cause it’s…honestly too much with the tourists
(He says as a tourist)
There's not really any avoiding it ig, Id say spend a good amount of time in the proper backstreets of harajuku/omotesando/ebisu/shibuya
Alot of people will only go one or two streets back (or perish the thought, only shibuya crossing and takeshita street vomit ) and there's alot of cool shit in the backstreets.
United Arrows & Sons for example is a great 3 story store with some awesome brands and their own inhouse Sons label, but rarely have I been there and there would be anymore than 1 other foreigner
Got it! I honestly don’t like shibuya crossing area lol
and it aint a size thing, Im 186cm and 97kg and all their shit fits me perfect, people just dont search
But I’m staying in Ebisu when I return to Tokyo so that’s ideal
That list covers a fairly diverse range of styles too so youll find something
Oh nice! Cause ye that’s also a fear haha
Studios is another great one for learning/education, theyre a procurement style store, lots of japan only brands
Good to know. I’ll probably spend a ton -_-
oh and one more for that list
United Arrows Green Labels Relaxing
great casual easy style and good quality
But yeah, search around, youll never know what youll find
I managed to get the last of the Schott x Neighborhood jacket in my size in Japan simply just cause I stopped to be proper social with the store owner so he made the effort to track it down, I love it all that little bit more now
It’s a sick jacket as well
Yeah gets alot of looks, comfy and weighty too
They had none in stock but after just chatting shit on a quiet night with the store worker for about 20 minutes he was like “yknow what, we may have one more in the office that we used for measurements and product photos”
And ran down the block to get it
This is quite the list. I was just gonna shop at Muji and Uniqlo but you gave more to consider lol
Muji and Uniqlo is fine if youre cheap/dont care as much about clothes/fashion type of thing sure
But its a shame when people ask about japan brands and only they get reccd
No clue where you live but if you’re in a metropolis, Uniqlo and Muji is everywhere, especially here in Toronto 😭
I am not lol
Muji’s Flagship is in Ginza though!
I do like fashion, I’ll be keeping an eye for vintage and more traditional looking pieces mostly, but my taste isnt super bold (ie not a hypebeast). I prefer more neutral tones and comfy linen.
That being said— a good pair of japanese denim is a MUST
thats true, its in all the malls
Depends what you mean by vintage and traditional, that can mean so many things in the context of japanese fashion haha
And yeah japanese denim is great, kapital and Oni are my usual pairs
Get some
I’m a momotaro man
Traditional = haori, etc
Vintage = good finds when thrifting
Sometimes you don't need plans
I just like being in Japan. Walking around, eating food, taking in the atmosphere
JAM in Harajuku is pretty good for streetwear vintage stuff
Thank you for thissss
Some of y'all might have to teach me to fashion. Cos I'm really just a zip up hoodie/indie band t-shirt/jeans person LOL
I’ll add it to the list. Thanks!
Tbh I feel like one can never go wrong with that outfit so long as it’s clean 🙂↕️
Oh yeah absolutely! No question! Haha.
There's many things I want but I reckon I'll be on the prowl for some good shoes
Sameeeee
Same, we can look for shoes when we go to Shimo!
I feel like onitsuka is usually the vibe but I haven't really done any research on other brands lmao
Clothes that fit well are far more important than how expensive they are
People wearing Uniqlo stuff that fit well look far better than people sporting supreme that look way too baggy
I.e Chinese tourists with money
Let's do itttt. Though I have no idea how I'll send those back to the hostel when I'll be at a gig haha
Word, word.

True…
There's this crazy handmade shoe shop
https://maps.app.goo.gl/Qyww1JAfTWPyAfYR8
I might visit Shimokita again and see if it's still available. Let' see
These look so coool
WoH that’s sick. Do u know how much it cost?
see website I just linked
@wise lantern also hear that ameyoko market has a good bit of shoes stores
I'll check this thank youuuu
Man this makes me wish I did my whole trip in Tokyo LOL
But I wanna check out Kansai tooo
U think that and then you explore other parts and you have that same feeling! Haha
Tell me about it. : ' ) So it's probably for the best that I spread things apart
Thought I'd do a last roll call. Surely someone here is attending my gigs. 👀
2nd - Tokyo - Jeff Rosenstock
5th- Shimokita - with the gang here
15th - Kanazawa - Ichiko Aoba
18th - Osaka - Mass of the fermenting dregs
bring a pair of bad shoes, buy the good ones, put them on, and throw the old ones in the trash
but its so much comfier walking those 20K steps a day in shoes that are broken in
That, toooo. I just broke in new ones already too : ' )
I might be able to do mass of the fermenting dregs on the 18th
Shout out to whoever recommend the super dry
Eyyyyy let's goo. I'm gonna be dashing from Nintendo Museum to there. Wild day for me haha.
I can't believe I'm finally seeing them live : ' )
yeah hopefully I can carve out some time to see them. I'll have to take the train over from nara

@wise lantern IMO if you guys are looking for regular shoes on a day-to-day basis/urban hiking kinda thing, just shop around at Harajuku~ every other big brand has a shop there so it wont be hard to find something comfortable
although most sneakerheads/shoe peeps will tell you to look towards a Salomon, On Running, or HOKA if you want to prioritize comfortability (all available in Harajuku too)
not to mention there's a bunch of ABC marts all around that usually have good pairs of shoes on sales
Although i will say Mizuno is vastly underrated and recently picking up some steam in terms of popularity, and they only have 1 store in the Jimbocho area
https://www.instagram.com/mizuno_sportstyle/?hl=en
This is super handyyy. Thank you for this and for trying to help me earlier!
Thank you my guy! I'll look into these
I'm thinking of bringing my HOKAs over too
yeaaa if you already have a pair i highly recommend one of the above mentioned brands for Japan
you're going to be walking an average of 15-20k steps a day

That's gonna be fun personally LOL. I really need the exercise
i think a few peeps were talking about like getting some feet pads or massage balls which makes a lot of sense tbh
Side note on shoes. I bought both my new balance trail shoes and my ultra boosts here…
Ultraboosts have been HEAPS more comfortable at 25k+ steps. 😂
Had to massage ball the f out of my calves with the new balance
Can you provide a few jeans brands too? Not sure what apparel is really good to buy in Japan, i heard shoes and jeans so far
Did you have the 574s? Those were my personal faves
yea UBs are known to be pretty beastly at comfort! Which NBs were you wearing though? just wondering
Was wearing the fresh foam trail ones
Absolute waste of money 😅 caused my injury in the end
sorry fam im not all that familiar with denim cause i dont really wear jeans, i only know of momotaro in aoyama, hinoya in ameyoko and Kapital in Ebisu cause they're famous. @ashen quail could probably guide you better here 🫡
Ultraboosts... I was thinking of just bringing my air forces
Scroll up ^ juice and I had a convo about this
ahhhh ok, is it the one with the super chunky soles
If u have UBs bring UBs
Replace the insole with an orthopaedic one
Bro I got blisters wearing my af1s lol
Mid I’d say

(Had to see physios many times this trip just cause I a) wore those trail shoes and b) didn’t stretch)
Don’t fall into the trap I did
i dont wear trial shoes often myself (im more of a sneaker kinda guy) but
just for like walking around in tokyo i stick to new balance 99x series
yea
But I took the trail shoes instead LOL
my 992s have never failed me
I need some new balances tho for the trip
but for trial i do have this lesser known model called the NB X-Racer and they've been awesome as well, that being said ive never tried trhe fresh foams
and i guess ill avoid them now

Yup do not buy
I'm debating whether I wear my hokas for whole trip haha
why not
If u have time
I’d go to a trail near u
And just walk
Or a place with steps
(A lot)
To simulate it
So u can feel what it’s like
I might give it a spin again when I'm in my city next
I think I just might do it. Just put them on. They feel so comfy : ' )
I bought duramo 10s for $40 AUD just as a placeholder shoe. Was almost gonna bring that
Rip your feet
Oni
Kapital
Studio D’Artisan
The Flathead
Mototaro
Japan Blue Jeans
Sugarcane
Samurai
Theres alot of good ones. Hinoya in Ueno is a good start, Bears Happy Denim in Shimo aswell
Hi all 🙂 Will be on my first solo travel adventure (32M) to Tokyo Nov 10-17. Thinking about doing a day trip to Mt Takao but apart from that a lot of wandering. Looking forward to potentially meeting a few of you guys in Nov. I'll have to check through the google sheet on what is already going on but just wanted to introduce myself in the meantime. The vibe of my trip is definitely going to be rooftop bar and yearning if anyone needs a drinking buddy any evening
If you're in Kansai during that time, would love to cross paths!
Not sure yet if I'll be going to Osaka/Kyoto this time around 🥲 but I'll definitely let you know if I end up over there
Aaaah. It's fine. : ' ) I'll be in Tokyo in between those datess
if i knew ichiko aoba was going to kanazawa i would have adjusted my trip 🥲 in kanazawa from 18-20th
Nooooo. It was announced probably middle of the yr : ' )
i'm so out of touch ahaha
Also I noticed we're in the same FC! LOL
my favourite band's tour was also going to be streamed in a movie theatre on the 29th and i'm gone from japan on the 27th
whoa!
i think i'm in that fc discord as a visitor eheh cuz i've helped before but i do know some of them!
Oh cool either way! Such a small world!!
nice dandadan profile picture :3 it's shaping up to be such a great show
Nice to know another Ichiko x FFXIV!!
ahahaha ikr!!!
I really love it! Science saru was the perfect studio to take it!
When is your Japan trip? : o
omg i know right the first episode animation was out of this world (literally!)
3-27th!
yours?
2-24! So similar ish!
For real!! If schedules align, we could link up if ever!
we should!!! lots in common :')
i'll add u as a friend :3c
probably opportunities to meet up in tokyo (assuming we both have tokyo days in the beginning/end)
For sure!!! I have it aligned that way so there's definitely a chance! Lemme know when you sent a request!
sent!
Howdy y'all. My wife and I found some unusually cheap flights and decided to jump on them for mid-end November. Super hoping to meet up with people here at some point
Now we just have to find last-minute hotels 😬. Gonna be rough, esp if we're trying to party in shibuya/shinjuku
Just party east side ez
do you know if they accomodate larger waist sizes?
How big USA size?
I think they go up to like 38 and 40 inches
like...12 I think?
I wear a size 30-32 inches myself
like usually from Levis I get a 28 to 30 depending on how much elastane is in the composition
You’ll be fine
I think they usually do like size 28-40
oh that's a pretty decent size range
I’m in Hokkaido from now until about November 9.
I'll be in Kanazawa for two days (second day I'm seeing Ichiko Aoba)! Never been. Happy to take suggestions!
Let’s gooo
We camp at the bar area
Hahaha 18 November?
Ah mines on the 6th
Close enough, just wait there 12 days
you'll be more than fine~ its more of bigger dudes that might have an issue with sizing
you might make the news if you stay up there for 12 days
no scratch that, you definitely will
Question is, will I learn Japanese?
yea you'll learn how to ask for forgiveness from the police

😂
just finished planning my itineraries for nikko and karuizawa and reserved them train tickets woOOOOOOOO
november cant come any sooner
Lesgoooo
I'm not sure what else I have to do atm. Just get my esim ready is all haha
Anyone planning on mutek?
@wise lantern ended up buying a nice pair of Pumas so likely won’t need to go shoe shopping when we’re there 😅
Got some Hoka Clifton 9s yesterday
Might pick up the new ultraboost 5s too as heard the toe area is wider which is my main issue with the older Ultraboosts I have
Can rotate better then
Oh? I have been looking for a shoe with a wider toe box. Maybe I'll try those
hokas are also pretty good and spacious in terms of the toe box
at least from what ive heard
All the hokas I've tried dug into the back of my heel/Achilles
ah ...
i cant say much myself since i havent worn one, ive just heard great reviews from friends
sorry to tag all of you wonderful folks @spring reef @ocean valley @vernal crag @granite warren @mild wagon @wise lantern @sinful iron @errant otter about the LOST bar meetup from the sheet:
i dont think LOST bar will have their reservation up in time for November so ...
and i've heard/read groups have to queue up to 30-45 mins, especially for bigger ones.
I bought a pair of hokas my first trip. I tried on damn near every pair I had until I went "oh these are the ones" that being said, I had no issues with mine.
1 week till fly time!
November hasn't even started and this thread is at almost 5k messages
November club about to break some records lol
13 days to fly time for me :D
I think 2k of that had to be from the bloodbath of Ghibli museum ticket drop day LOL
lol true
November threads always get pretty active
I didn't even know LOST had reservations???
The big group in November last year had some moments
Could we not call them and book over the phone?
Yep
I meant to add my name to that sheet, thought it did. So is it a no-go?
Also what was the date you had in mind?
Hi all! Planning a super impromptu solo trip to Japan starting 8 November (immediately after quitting my job 😂)
Life choices
Aw heck yeah
Still thinking which area to visit though!
Was just in Tokyo last year.. but have since yearned going back, especially to Kamakura and Enoshima, but kinda want to visit somewhere new as well
Only have 2 weeks to plan though 😭
No date set yet.
I've listed the dates I'm available next to my name to make it easier.
If everyone can add their availability, we can pick a date soon.
same.. but i even havent figured all accomodations out 😄
The Japanese economy thanks you
There's a tracking sheet with ppl's planned schedule floating around somewhere
It's pinned
was part of that group last year, we had a badass time. looks like I'm going to be doing it again this year
of the 3 who've added their dates already none of them line up at all lol. this one might be a wash, but I'll add mine anyway
I know 🤣
@valid compass @spiral latch how did you make this map? I do it on google maps but I can't classify the things like that
there was a spreadsheet for november travelers that i filled out. check the pinned message
i dunno what the plan is, but i'll be in osaka/kyoto from november 12-17, and then tokyo from 18-23. leaving on 24th. would love to meet everyone and do some travelling together
True, this thread is packed. Maybe I'll actually find a couple people to chill with in Ueno 😅
still have 2 more weeks before im going, but im already almost completely incapable of getting work done at work
I'm actually strangely under excited. I was much more pumped when I was buying airfare and reserving rooms
I land this Friday but I'm still in denial that I'm going
Tbh I don't think I even have enough pto to cover my trip but that will be future me's problem 😂
how did you get time off work then?
Same, all thats been on my mind Haha
My supervisor approved the days I requested off but I technically have to keep track of the amount of hours I have
I'm not 100% sure but we'll find out when I come back LMAO
so are you just intentionally losing track lol
They need me more than I need them so I'm willing to take that risk 😂
Ehhhhh, I think I’ll be fine for the days I requested, but we have to use pto for holidays and I’m like 100% sure I’ll be short for Veterans Day
i also went negative for my own PTO for my japan trip coming up in november, it is what it is 🤣
OK COOL I FEEL LESS GUILTY LOOOOL
that sounds like a manager and company problem. not a you problem
if they approved it, onus falls on them imo
don't be extreme like those /r/antiwork people. but don't be too scared either
I appreciate y'all validating me 😤
Anyone in Kansai looking to do autumn viewing from mid month until early December. I've been monitoring the meteorological agency track and have an itinerary hitting up locations as leaves reach predicted peak in Kobe Osaka Kyoto Nara and Shiga prefectures.
Doing all day trips from Osaka and free to tag along at any point or in case anyone wants recs, just ask.
what do you mean by autumn viewing?
hey @willow idol just letting you know I put myself down for the rhythm game arcade crawl. looks like we're both in tokyo on the 1st and 2nd so either of those days sounds like the time to do it
Go to places like parks and temples to look at leaves at peak autumn colors for the season.
you're welcome to join me in kyoto if you'd like. i dunno what my exact schedule is going to be like as i'm going to be flexible and weather dependent, but home base is osaka for november 12-17 for me
technically arriving in osaka in evening of november 11. depart for tokyo on november 18
Done the same thing in eastern Japan before now looking to do it in kansai
Fair. I might look into something too. I got a foot locker voucher haha
That stinksssss. We can find something else maybe? 👀
My home base until December 20th is Itabashi City
It's 1hr 20min walk from Shinjuku. I hope I don't miss the last train
Although Tokyo walks early morning are comfy
Just watch out for any spiders
we're finally getting invasive joro spiders here, which is good because we already have all the invasive beetles and we need somebody to eat them
I'm just referencing the one person from the big group in the November thread last year that got bit by a spider
How big are these spiders?
I never saw any spiders in Japan 🤣 just warnings about snakes and wild boars
on the plane ✈️
There's a lot around Fushimi Inari
Once you notice them, they're hard to ignore
are there any handy japanese phrases i should learn for telling the boars to leave me alone
I saw a sign in Kyoto saying poisonous snakes so stay out of the grassy areas
Never going there spiders are scary man 😭 although it's winter soon so they should all be dead 🫡
ohh cool, I'm meeting up with a taiko friend on 1st but am completely free on the 2nd ye
what rhythm games do u play
idk anyone else degen enough to play maimai or taiko 😭
ooh proseka
I remember that felt like a mobile version of chunithm
I'm not a rhythm gamer, but I will be hitting some arcades for tetris purposes :p
I got invited to play mahjong with some japanese guys I know from twitter, which is kind of intimidating lol
kind of same lol
gambling is illegal so that’s how they skirt the law with the loophole
yeah it's very silly
I don't want to trade in a prize for money though, I just want to lose everything and leave sad
that's what gambling is all about
I've played a bit of a couple: taiko, project diva, muse dash, dj maxx, cytus

ooh nice, im taiko mai ddr and maybe a bit of chuunithm
forget studying japanese before a trip to japan, i need to brush up on my mahjong and tetris skills instead
surely practice on mahjongsoul
i have plenty of that, i need to practice handling real tiles more though
What's the equivalent to Uber in Japan? Just wanna have the app ready if I'm in a pinch
Go Taxi
Thank you!!!
This might be important for my first night in Tokyo LOL
Me too
I tried to learn but I couldn't figure it out
Does anyone know how?
you just drop a bunch of balls and get lucky no skill involved lol
Pachinko is Japan's biggest game. And yet many people overseas have never even heard of it.
► WHERE we played: Ebisu Cafe in Takayama! http://bit.ly/ebistakayama
Many thanks to Ebisu Cafe for sponsoring this video; we’d long wanted to get into a Pachinko parlor to film, and we had a great time uncovering the games history and letting Natsuki l...

Damn he got double the balls back
Guess lucky
@maiden gale @spring reef @night gazelle @wise lantern regarding LOST:
Yea when we last talked about it here we were saying to wait for their reservation system to (hopefully) start before november and then figure out a date, but … 😂
If other peeps are still interested we could queue, or go earlier in the day like @lime inlet said but
personally I might just give it a pass
Pachinko is so fun, but I feel like I got hit with a fucking flashbang in my ears every time I walk out
its so loud
nah its all skill. you should probably buy a machine and practice
Tbh imma just swing into lost solo and try a cocktail, getting a group for it sounds like a recipe for waiting
Yeah that's true.
Yeah let's wait and see I guess.
Yea i agree with Juice, i think as long as theres more than like 3-4 people its most definitely a queue
I guess we all go on our own accord, and depending how our schedule line up we could join one another
Yep~ otherwise i think it can always be pop and go moments. I’ll probably be on here asking if anyone wants to grab a drink every other night for the first 2 weeks of Nov
I'm gameeee
anyone wanna eat here? https://tabelog.com/en/tokyo/A1306/A130602/13042979/
